Da Zard done tol' a lie.

Sorry folks.

Just did some research and found that the TV lady was talking out her nether oriface.
White Monarchs may be rare on the mainland, but they make up 10% of the population on Oahu!
Prolly 'cause HI. Monarchs don't migrate, but, that's just a guess.

Gonna have to fire my fact checkin' folks.

Aloha.

Only takes a few hours! You can see my times last night as I posted. I think it is gonna be hard to beat the shot of it turning midpoint green!

I had another this morning, and I looked at it one hour ago, and it was mad that I touched it. One hour later, little devil has turned completely!

Now I got 2! Was hoping to get more shots like the one where it is turning midpoint, but missed it!

Got my new Nikon D60 today! I look so CSI-ish with this bad boy strapped on... haahaa
Gonna root out my macro lens and see what I can do with it!

It takes 8-10 days, Right now I have 4 out of the 5 turned to chryasalis-es....lol.

Only one left to turn, then will post pics when the hatch out. Maybe a time lapse movie? Would ya'll want to see that?

I'd keep it to 50 frames or so. 35 40 secconds...

You can buy some in a kit if you can't find any on some milkweed.

WARNING: They will ONLY eat milkweed... Have a stash afore you get started.!

Try Amazon.

All 5 have done their thang and have started the big change. Will try and get ya'll a pic when I figure out someway to build a butterfly hatching thingy... LOL.

2 have attached themselves to the lid of the Mason jar they were living in and the other 3 stuck on a stem of milkweed.

I think one is gonna hatch out tomorrow! Lookin sorta translucent. Will edit in pic in a minute!

I saw a Nova on Monarchs.. they are completely amazing.. did you know that when they leave Mexico it takes multiple generations ( in one season) for the monarchs to migrate northward.. but that when they return to Mexico the entire trip is a single generation?
5 or 6 generations moving north and then 1 for the return.. the diversity and specialization in nature is wonderful
Peace--Joe

These rascals have got in a hard to photograph situation.

The one on the right is the one that is beginning to turn translucent.

I like this shot because it reallly shows how they chrysali look like jade with real gold trim. Pretty pretty.

See the wings inside the one on the right?
