What do you say when at the hydro store?

The search sucks. Its overly eager to rank recent threads, and most threads just happen to mention the word, it needs to weight heaver keywords in the title. 99% of the time I search I find nothing and have to rever tto google. Also if youre on the homepage that button is broken. Cant everyone stop riding the man's dick for starting a thread

I had a lady at lowes look at my buckets and soils and start giving me pot growing tips like BURY HALF YOUR PLANT. i was just like uhh thats not what im growing shes like yes u are, I was like whatev ( bury half your plant? I wanted to call her out but couldnt blow my "cover" )

Amen. :yeahthats

There are about 20 'grow stores' in the Portland area. Fear of being followed by a police office isn't just inane - it may not even be treatable.

I've been going to the same place for 15 years!

I know the owner like family and we still talk in generalizations even though he knows exaclty what i'm growing.

I think all the worry about getting busted at grow stores and places like HD are a bunch of over blown hype....

For sure, Portland is loaded with grow shops and 99.9% if not all of the customers that shop there is only growing one thing. But this is a big medical mmj state so no one really cares unless you start running your mouth or bragging to the wrong people.

A couple were 2 of the very first 'grow stores' in the USA about 30 years ago. I can't believe that either one is still around as f*cked-up as they are.

And all of the 'grow stores' have to buy from the same national distributor, National Garden Wholesale meaning that if you're a manufacturer or importer, etc. you have to get your product with these guys. Individual stores do very little outside sourcing.

Why bother? Just stock the stuff with the Stoner Joe labels and you're good to go to make money. AmericanAg (formerly Halide of Oregon) is proof-positive of that. 30 years of crappy prices, lousy customer service and they opened a 2nd store over on the West Side sometime in the past year or so.

This may be the dumbest thread of 2009 but I know lots of people who are still too scared to go into one and buy what they need.If this thread convinced one person who wouldn't go, it is not the dumbest thread of 2009, hell Yummy's not even in it......All my best to ya' Rez either way, reach around or not.....it's just too true, that's what I do and never a problem. If more people went without worry there would be several less coming to my house for your chemDD...:joint::joint:

I usually already know what i'm buying when I go in, but I know everyone there and I always get my special discounts. I'll go in and see a fan or something for 120 and I'll tell them I saw it online for 90 bucks and that's the price I get. The owner asked me once what I was growing and I just said tomatoes. But he knows what i'm growing and what 99% of the people that go there grow.

I get sketched out when I go to homedepot and i'm a 21 year old guy buying garden supplies and hps bulbs. haha
I try to spread out what I buy in one purchase though. But sometimes I just need stuff right away and I'll have to get ducting, bulbs, and pots in one purchase.

you sure she said "oh so when you plant that big ole ganj tree, bury half of it!"?

only reason I ask is cuz most people at Lowes arent gonna be able to put 2 and 2 together. Its not like were buying things they dont sell.

however

she might have meant tomato plants?
tomato plants SHOULD be buried 1/2 to 2/3 of the total height when planted... promotes a much better root system for those plants. they veg fast and have some weight on em so they need all the support they can get.

I'M NOT GROWING TOMATOES LADY, FUCK OFF!!! lol :joint:

when the guy that runs my hydro store said "wow.... thats a lot of perlite" is when I couldnt help but wonder what they are thinking :biglaugh:

That's exactly the scenario I envisioned in my head. She tries to give him some tips on growing tomatoes and he gets all agro on her. Doubt she's thinking he's growing pot...more like she's thinking "what a fuckin' loon...jeez." :biglaugh:

Why not try calling first? Then just take a cab if you wanna go uber-stealth. Just don't ask for Advanced Nutrients. A lot of Hydro shops won't stock AN because its too "loud". I got put on the spot once when 2 of the hired help practically shouted out that AN is used for growing mj and we don't carry it. Of course, I was into orchids but..... About a month later, more angry than embarrassed, I returned to the same store and found out those 2 self righteous yahoos were the hired help. I met the owner who chatted me up about growing & was willing to order the stuff for me.

Don't be so sensitive.

It wasn't a personal attack. Just what I was visualizing happening as I read your story.

as far as what to say its pretty much common sense like the post above. Just speak in general terms.

As far as those still saying anyone who has any concern about going to a grow store. Well ive read and read and search and my conclusion is if your in a friendly state your safe and theres alot of them and dont worry much about it.

If you in a unfriendly state such as TX or FL or GA i would suggest some caution as there are clearly documented cases of grow stores being watch plates recorded and electric bills at the registered addressed of the plates being crossed. Anyone who says there is no worry at all has not done there homework as clearly folks have been busted because they were repeatedly seen and watched. Most areas where its cool have multiple stores. I noticed here in my city we have 2 stores and one blocks your call if you use *67 to block your number.
call them all paranoid or dumb but years in jail for as little as 25 plants is no joke.

yeah same here just because that is exactly what it says to do for tomatoes.... meanwhile its highly unusual to do that with "MJ"

no worries maybe she's got a clone or two she can gift you.
