Do Your Critters Like to Get High?

Not a herb story, but my mom grew up with a beer drinking donkey. Her mom was a drunk, and owned a bar (across the street from her house). The donkey would hang out @ the bar, drink beer and eat peanuts. Sometimes it would pass out on the floor, sometimes it would stumble back home. She has a newspaper clipping of it somewhere.

Another good story-
My dad needed someone to house sit while he went houseboating for a week. I offered to stay there, and take care of his house and dog. One night, some friends came over to hang out. We were smoking herb on the patio, and dad's dog (boxer) just had to have some. We would blow all our hits in his face, and he was loving it. About a hour later, my buddy tells me he had a 1/2 a vile of LSD in his pocket, and can't find it now..
Inside, I find my dad's boxer, in the kitchen, chewing on the vile. More than 1/2 of the bottle was gone, and I could literally see the drug take ahold of the dog. My friends all thought he(the dog) was gonna kill them all. I ended up taking the dog into my room, and spending the entire night hanging out with him, making sure he was ok. Dog lived a long, happy life after that.

Lolagal: It is wrong to force kittens into shut outs and smoke them out.

I know, I didn't like that happening. I try to understand people when they make mistakes and I try to understand people can be stupid or ignorant.

psuedo:eek:h yeah, off topic but cheese for dogs is a nono, as they are usually lactose intolerant , my friend gave his awesome 10 year old yellow lab a chunk and it dropped dead, sad sad day

whoa ive been feeding my dog cheese for 8 years and it is it's favorite thing in the world!!! If you even say a word remotely similar to cheese...itll perk up. lol poisonin ma dog...little by little.

Should I quit feeding my dog cheese or since he likes it.... with nothing I can see wrong, but could it be secretly hurting it?

I used to routinely find plants with leaves stripped from my damn cat. If i open the door and don't pay attention, he just starts munching on them. He's attracted to them like catnip almost.
I used to leave big nugs sittin around in my little mini tray and thought i just got so high i smoked all of it the night before and forgot. Then one day i'm cutting up a nug, turn for a sec, and when i turn back it's the damn cat taking off with my nug! bad kitty!

Who says chocolate is poison for dogs? Munch is small and twice has stolen bars of hersheys chocolate from us and eaten them down...once almost a half pound!! We were worried because we heard that also but the only result was a bit of constipation and hard poop for munch for a couple of days. but perhaps SOME few breeds have an issue with chocolate. Come to think of it, I have given chocolate to a lot of dogs and never had an issue. After hearing it was bad I worried, but I don't think its a big deal in reality.

There is a chemical in chocolate they cannot digest. Sort of how some people are lactose intollerant, they cant digest lactose, similar idea. Look it up if you dont believe me. They can tolerate a certain amount of, but too much will kill them, i've never seen it happen but when i was younger my dog ate a lot of chocolate from my sisters holloween candy and becaume extreamly ill, threw up all over the place all night long, probably wasnt far from dying.

So it seems that many people here would also let their Toddler consume MJ or Alcohol, as long as you are not forcing it down their throat, as long as they voluntarily ingest its okay? do you feel the same way about toddlers and drain cleaner? (drawing a connection between the innocence of babies and animals, not saying anyone actually did this to a toddler)

Maybe your animals like the visual effect of smoke, and as i suggesten in previous posts, do not make the connection between inhaling the smoke and the psychedelic effect later. Not that i think blowing smoke at a dog or cat will really get it high. Also, dont blow it in their ears, it could cause an ear infection. That is just common sense, hope no one has to debate that. I have gotten ear infections before from sitting on my grandmother's lap while she smoked cigs.

Not ruling out the possibility that some animals may enjoy it, I would think that some could. I'm just saying it sounds like their are a lot of stubborn minded and irresponsible people out there, and i'm just trying to lead them to realize that what they are doing might not be as good of an idea as they thought.

I just love animals.

i know this might sound sort of ridiculous, all my animals love the leaves and munch them if given the chance..but , i have this one very old cat in particular that is about 16 or 17 yrs. old..has arthritis kinda bad..
i feed him a few crystally leaves when he is having trouble getting around and it really improves his ability to move..he even plays a bit then eats and naps..
in my mind it just proves that mj helps with many ailments..

... what?

So what, you're assuming none of us actually possess such pets? That we're all horrible people who lock our animals in cardboard boxes and hotbox them as they cry out in terror? That MJ is natural medicine, and should be legalized because it's harmless... but that it's going to magically brutallize anything without two thumbs?

I just love animals.
Then let them make decisions and exercise free will. Understand them, communicate with them. And never, ever forget that you're nothing more than one of them.

Here's a picture of my baby. He does what he damn well pleases. Tattoos, drinking, smoking, I just let him run wild.

I'm not passing judgment here and I should preface my comments with the fact that I am an animal lover.

My issue is this, do they know what's good for them ? And if so, are they really making their own decision to ingest ?

I mean, I have to stop one my pups from eating his own shit sometimes....God I love him but he's just not a good decision maker.....

blowing smoke in your pets face is 1 thing, but MJ should be a no-no for your loved animals. when my dog was younger she found some pot butter ib\n the trash. it was not good. she was very lethargic, & was going into seizures at one point she lost control & peeded & pooped all over herself when she was caged.. was not a fun experience. everything turned out ok, i just had to explain to the vet what was going on after i fgured out what happened.

pot butter and few leaves are a big difference..i am a huge animal lover and my pets are very spoiled..hell, every stray around ends up here either to stay or till i find them a good home..
if you could see my poor ol' cat gimpin' around you might think twice about letting him eat a leaf 2x a week..
IGRO , i thought when pups ate their own poop it was a sign of worms..

Well....he's a big pup (13 mos.) and in overall great health with regular vet visits.

Just a bad decision-maker without an opposable thumb to hold his own toothbrush :D

this is the same dog in the OP...

after a speed habit. He's bummed there's only one piece of kibble.

(seriously, what's unhealthy is letting your critters get that fat!)

Far as I can tell they all eat their own poo. Or any other poo.

nope, my 2 dogs look as they walk to avoid any poop..
i have to pooper-scoop several times a week or they won't even go out in the fenced yard..it's a big area too..about 1/4 acre just for them..
good one IGRO, i'm still laughing at that one..

My daughter had a Pomeranian. That species of dog is like 5lbs and they think they are the toughest dog in town.

One day the pom gets into the cat box and pulls out a turd and starts eating it in the middle of our living room with a full house. I yell at my teenage son to get the turd away from Scrappy. My son looks at me all shocked with disgust but eventually tries to do it. However, Scrappy saw that as a personal challenge of someone trying to take his food and his animal instinct took over. He was barking in a roaring snarling tone and would not give it up. I outsmarted the dog and offered a hot dog to him in exchange while my son took the turd away.

Thanks for sharing that with us...

I'm not sure a hot dog would be much better for him than a cat poop. Processed meat is nasty stuff. Then again, cat poop is 'processed' too, but at least it's natural. :)

The facts on chocolate for dogs

The facts on chocolate for dogs

I looked up a fact sheet: http://www.dogownersdigest.com/news/library/chocolate-dog-poisoning.shtml on chocolate for dogs.

Here are the facts: Chocolate contains a chemical compound that in HIGH DOSES can cause upset tummies and worse in rare cases for a dog. most chocolates have little of the compound, like white types, but some types on chocolate have bigger doses of it. These high level types can cause some problems if the dog gets enough.

The main issue they talk about is the fact that dogs love the taste and of course if they get a little they want more. That the worry; That if a dog gets a large amount of chocolate he might get sick. But regular chocolate has little of the chemical and thus litte worries.

A bite of candy now and then will NOT hurt a dog; of course like anything else moderation is the key. To forbid chocolate at all is OK...but not necessary. Dogs cannot get ill or die from a bite of candy. Overdoing it is not good, but if you are a responsible pet owner you will not let your dog eat anything to excess, including candy.

No big deal, just caution and not overdoing it.
