Dispensaries ADD on their 8.75% sales tax to the $100 for the grand total, quite unlike the tobacco profiteers. Can you imagine how much a dispensary would charge with a federal excise tax? lol

Actually, dispensaries would be doing it exactly like the tobacco, and alcohol Companies--
The Gov charges a (or several) taxes on these products...this is not sales tax-- Sales Tax is paid by the consumer, directly to the place they are purchasing it from...then they are charged at the end of the year, or monthly, however they have it set up...and have to pay that % of the $$ to the Gov--
I don't understand what you are saying, acting like the big bad dispensaries are just pocketing that $$--

can we get a link to Maine stating they want to introducing a legalization bill ?

The complete removal of any criminal/social penalties associated with cannabis and it's related products. Free Market Marijuana to be honest. I believe it should be on the same legal and tax level as buying lumber from Home Depot, or a ream of paper from an office supply store. Reasonable and expected taxes that EVERY product/company is require to pay is fair, nothing more nothing less.

I think we all wish that would happen, and it should happen, but the reality is it wont. There will be heavy regulations placed on MJ if it ever does become legal, observing and enforcing those regulations will cost money. While its true that a large majority of these costs will be offset by the reduced MJ related load on the law enforcement, legal and prison systems, those benefits will be ignored and focus will be placed on the additional cost of regulation. No taxpayer will be willing to pay for these costs, except maybe the consumers of MJ, so additional taxes will be levied upon MJ businesses and customers. I just do not see any way to avoid it.

If were asking who will win as far as legalization saving a states' ass, then I still believe CA will take it, we all know about the possible revenue med. marijuana can/will do for the state that already sees one of the highest average home prices, largest unemployment of most states, AND not to mention a HUGE defecet that is on the brink of bankruptcy.

If you ask me, California NEEDS legalization in order to perpetuate living and enhance more job opportunities in an already suffering job market. ESPECIALLY in most parts of Northern California where job opportunity is and has been slim for some time now. So to not allow California to operate its most expensive and stimulating asset to its residents is fucking crazy.

I don't understand?

What does it matter which state is the first to legalize it?

Won't the feds just come in and say it's against fed law, like they are doing right now in CA.

Arnolds signature wouldn't change fed law.
