killing trees for more sunlight

But hamstring is right, i love nature and trees and i'm not out killiing mature, valued trees.

As someone in the upper southern US, all trees here arent valueable. Silverleaf maples were brought in by the coal companies as was cudzu. Ill kill a silverleaf 80 years old in a heartbeat. They are trash trees/ a cross between a willow and maple with huge root systems and self sow. Mimosa's from japan cover the whole of the mountains , I wack everyone i pass with a machete. And then you have just plain old scrub varieties of thorn, locust , honeysuckle and alder that grow up fast and big and then die in 15 years, to make room for the oaks and pines. Is killing them at 4 years a crime?

See, that's an informed view. The man knows his areas history and local fauna. No one even asked what kind of tree it was. Plus, I've learned a ton from this guy on ICMAG and I respect his opinion.

I second the Kudzu. Ugh. I had a good spot in the middle of a Kudzu patch but thinking about it's growth rate decided it would cover and drown my plants in a matter of weeks once the weather heated up and it got going. The stuff is an invasive pest.

Like I said. Don't mix forest managment, tree huggers, left and right political views with this case :

I am growing in a clearing and i could really use like an hour or two of extra sunlght on my patch. i was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to kill a full grown tree (without cutting it down) so that more sunlight can filter through...
This is pure lazyness. Go find another spot or live with it. No need to kill or cut down a tree so you gain couple of joints more. Well at the end people do what they want but if you kill my tree or leave empty soil plastic bags in my woods then I will kill those plants so that you will not grow or kill my trees next year in the area. I planted, spent money and worked like maniac to get to the point when my bees benefit from my woods planting not just trees and then in ten years someone comes and kills my work.

Let me ask you how would you feel if somene kills your MJ crop in the woods ? Growin weed is illegal and if you also do damage in the process don't be surprised why people are biased against our herb. Some people even admin they do it for money and they would do anything even take out someones long-term work so they can get high and sell for profit. I wish those all well but let me tell you that karma will get you...
But I guess no one really wants to understand what I am saying and all you see are some lunatic tree huggers and political left and right and what not.

i knew how to girdle a tree when I was 3 or 4 years old.

You didn't even know if it would work in an earlier post of yours.

That is why I thought you were inexperienced. I assume you are at least 18 presently.

Sorry to offend you o great WoodChopper. :joint: :deadhorse:

Ouch,

You got me.,,,,,,, Im sure everyone now knows that im a inexperienced pussy that knows nothing of the woods. :jerkit:..

You still havent read Vol 2 yet have you?

You don’t want us to mix forest management or our personal experiences but one paragraph down you have the foresight to tie in your bee hives (by the way love beehives). You can’t make a good argument with out tying in personal experience and knowledge, not possible. I agree with Silverback because I grow in lowlands and see many types of trees and again I am not chopping down Paul Bunion style I am removing trees from a good spot which is hard to come by.

Laziness, not sure about others but I am up at 4:00am busting my ass and finding a good spot takes months of investigation and due diligence. You ever here the expression “You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.” That expression has been around before you and I were on earth and you know why , because it still holds water. You can’t walk through the woods with out killing something but you feel there is no connection to your thesis and these valid arguments. What happens is your voice and many of your valid points start to fade when you don’t acknowledge others. You feel that we only care about ourselves but you don’t seem to see the other side of the coin either.

PEACE-- enjoy the bee keeping a noble profession.

But you don't go and steal someones else eggs to make an omelet right ?

btw, I am not professional beekeeper. Hobby one with couple of hives but I restored what in last decades human hand destroyed as good as I could. Your 4am get up hunting for spot sorry doesn't come even close to in terms of work I put into this and that is why I feel pissed when guerilla boys come and clean everything around. I found cut down wild berries the other day coz someone felt those should not be there because it is hard for them to get to the "spot". They killed bush just starting bloom ( opening flowers ).
Off I went and took their plants. Those are now in my backyard. If only they would clean after themselves and leave things alone they would get some smoke in October....it is two way ticket you know...

no me and a friend just hang on and then it bends , of course i am not talking about huge trees:laughing:

A.) Very bad karma
B.) when a tree has been girdled - that's what you're doing is called- it can take up to a year for it to die. Many variables
C.) Old country saying. Want to find where your property lines are ? Just fire up a chain saw in the woods... Or otherwise fuck with someone's trees. If that property has an owner, you'll be aware of him in short order. Kinda defeats the stealth concept.
I'd go with finding a better spot.

You know Beek you're an asshole, now matter how you justify it you are a fucking ripper. What lesson do you think they learned after you stole their plants? None, because they have no clue as to why you did it, ripper. Its not likely you left them one of your whiny self rightous rants, now is it?

I don't believe in that karma bullshit, but there are definately consequences for your actions. Hopefully your consequences will be that who ever you ripped will find you and kick your ass. Usually uppity people like you just need a good ass whipping to keep you back in line.

Right this wrong dude by giving them their plants back. You seem to like to preach, so type up some instructions for them instead of punishing them for something that exists only in your mind. Give 'em their plants back, they're not yours, even though they are in your yard.

Sure I am an asshole but they are cool ?
They are growing on MY PROPERTY, cutting down MY wild berry bushes which are opening flowers at this very moment ( Less wild forest honey for me and my family !) and leaving empty soil plastic bags on MY property. I took their plants so they never come back trashing and polluting MY PLACE. Screw them. If they want to grow they should have respect.

How can you justify cutting down my bushes by some guerilla growers who think their MJ is more important or valuable and at the same time calling me a ripper on my own place ? Funny guy you are.

What dude ? What should I give him back ? He made a damage to me, cost me time and money for gods sake and I am the ripper now? Good logic you have there !
When you put some money and 10 years into a project and some guerilla guys come and trash your place get back to me and tell me how you feel. I don't know why some of you think if you grow MJ you are cool and own everything. It doesn't work like that in my woods.

If it is so cool grow on your own place and don't hide in the woods or try in your mothers kitchen . Let's see what she has to say about that.

Then why didn't say it was on your land. If you had put that in there I wouldn't have said shit. I'm not too big to apologize for my comments. I just thought since you never said it was on your property that you just ripped someone. Sorry I was wrong.

I did my first outdoor grow in 1976,when I was just in grade school Also, read the whole thread, I was the first one to tell OP how to girdle a tree to kill it, wasn't I? I was just trying to say that killing someone else's trees might get a patch noticed by landowners QUICK. I live out in the woods you see, and know these things. I thought maybe somebody would benefit from a lifetime spent in the woods. Sorry, so sorry to offend anybody by saying be careful, don't get a tree on top of your head. Experienced lumberjacks shut the hell up!:yoinks:

Great, dont cut down a tree but you're out stealing the history of the planet...PERFECT! I never said don't cut a tree one single time. Cut all ya'll want. Cut it all down. Happy? I don't know anything about growing or being in the woods. You are totally right.

Two comments from personal experience.

The farmer who owns hundreds of acres of hay/corn field all around my little parcel cuts down trees every few years so his crops won't be shaded. He asked if he could cut the very end of one hedgerow that is my property. I said 'sure', alsthough I wasn't. It was mostly box alder and other fast growing softwoods. The cutting has changed the landscape, but it will be returning to what it was in a couple of more years. Some new species have spread around. Now I have a large plot of wild raspberries on my section of that hedgerow. They put out fine fruit. So, cutting the trees did not harm the landscape, and with more sunlight getting to the ground and some of the branches and twigs (the trees were logged and removed) actually created lots of habitat for turkey, other birds, and small mammals and other creatures.

This Spring the US Dept of Agriculture has a tree planting program to help with water quility from the farm runoff. They are out behind these fields planting lots of quality trees. Oaks, Ash, Maples, cranberry bush and other valuable species. They had a helicopter go over the area very low and slow today (Glad I didn't plant out there!). And a worker came to walk the area and see how the plantings were doing.

So, I feel to cut trees to help grow a crop is NOP. Of course, cutting a nice stand of valuable trees would be stupid, as would be cuttign down someone else's trees.

Well you aint got to be from the south to smell bullshit on your boots when you are knee deep in it...

so for the record
you killed your first tree at 3
had your first growop in the at age 7...

Bottom line we are all in this together. You have the same ideas as i do, as fastpine does, hell as most of the people on this site. That makes us kinda kinfolk. When is the last time you have been around 1000 people that you had something in common with...been along time for me...

Fastpine has been an inspiration to alot here. He has put his time in, he has shared the life of a man with big balls, big dreams and showed us the rewards...

He has earned more respect than you gave him. Check my link...it wouldnt be there if it wasnt for last years and the log from the year before...

best of luck to you and yours...stay safe and preach the word!
