hey guys, i germinated my seeds in rockwool cubes and 9 seeds germinated,1 seed is probably dead.

then i transplanted rowkwool cubes into 1 litre pots.

i use 20%worm casts,10% peatmoss ,70% coco mix with 2 tablespoon dolomite lime for per gallon.

questions :

1 ) i couldnt find perlite for now but i will add perlite to my new 1,5 gal. pots in my next transplant.( about 15 days later )

is it a problem ?

2 ) when i water my 1 Litre pots,the color of run off was white because of dolomite.there was also some dolomite lime powder in runoff.i think i washed dolomite when i watered.
is it normal,or did i make a mistake ?

3) what about watering ? how much and how often should i water ? should i let the mix dry before watering again ?

PS: my dolomite is powderized,like flour.
PS 2: i stir the mix for 15 minutes before using.but as soon as i stirred the mix,i began to use.is it normal or should i wait 1 or 2 days before using ?

If I a use the LC mix #1 but use Coir instead of peat moss, do I still have to add Lime?
My understanding is that peat is very low in ph, thats one of the reasons to add it, plus the calcium.
But what about Coir? is it also low in ph?

How much does 1 cup of guano weigh?

The places near me sell guano by the kg, and I don't want to buy way too much, or way too little.

Just a rough estimate, but I would say my 2.2 lb bags of PSG and Jamaican have about 3-4 cups in them.

2 ) I grow with LC'soilless mix #1 ( i use 20%worm casts,10% peatmoss ,50% coco and 20% perlite mix with 2 tablespoon dolomite lime for per gal.) , but is it possible to just water without any runoff and just moistening the medium? Or do I have to have 20-30% runoff like in coco and canna nutes?

If I go with coir in LCs mix, would I run into problems without running it off? I have a fear that I will be flushing nutes away if I let it runoff 30% every watering.

Hello all,

Burn, As I have been reusing my soil I have been adding back abut 25% ewc to the mix I make when transplanting.


At what point can I stop adding in ewc at such high ratios?

I use Blood and bone at 1 tbs per gallon of soil when I set it aside to cook (which can be up to months)

I use a liquid kelp product and LK to wet.

I have a good idea when to add perlite as Ihave discovered that it breaks down too. I can't be more cautious when it comes to drainage and airation. Too much ewc makes the mix compact which is not good.

So whats yoru thoughts on adding back ewc to reused mixes?

I also use a ewc/molasses tea which I add AFF/EJB/LK/CalMag/liquid kelp/molasses as I see fit in varying ratios at the time of mixing.

To be honest, I never reuse LC's Mix but once. If I did, I would use Three Little Birds Method. In my situation, using fresh mix each grow is best for me. I don't like variables. Consistency is best IMO.

Thanks Burn1 for the info in this thread, I am now able to smoke my first organic herb on 4/20!

I grew bagseed in LC#1 and amended bone/blood on 3 plants and burned the heck out of them cause I fed with guano teas along with the bone/blood already in the mix.

I had one plant with plain LC#1 and fed with the guano tea recipe on page 1, this plant came out the best, so for now I will stick to plain LC mix peat/ewc/pearlite and feed with fish/sea weed in veg and flower with the guanos!

I'm bubbling my tea for less time now that I've moved the brewing to an area of higher heat. The tea will smell foul if I let it go 24hrs. I've also noticed that the tea gets way cloudy than before. Almost like there is tiny amounts of algae or somthing else growing in there. is that normal? what about the smell? I'm letting it go like 14 hrs and I'd say its done. Thanks

Ill be using a local organic mix, with blood, bone, kelp, greensand, epsom salts, castings, pumice, sulfate of potash and one or two other things i cant remember.
ive heard alota negative talk about organics outdoors with critters digging up spots multiple times...
im prety sure the only things in the mix thatll attract animals would be the blood and bone meal, am i correct?
but i was wondering if composting and curing the mix for a few weeks would get rid of critters smelling and trying to dig up my holes?
i will be using some kind of fencing too, chicken wire down in the soil and up above ground fencing in plant, and maybe a top of chicken wire...with rocks and stuff to build up structure.
we wont have problems withbears or elk or moose. but will have coyote, racoons, skunks and possums...

It works better above 80 degrees F.

It's best to prepare your outdoor plot at least a month before planting if using blood and bone. Longer if possible. Animals will dig up a hole with nothing in it because they smell that someone has been in there.

Has anyone here used the pre-made compost by Vermiblend? My hydro store didn't have any blood/bone/kelp meal to mix in to my soil-less mix so I could just water to harvest, but they did have this "Vermiblend" compost. It has all the microherds inoculated already and the bag says they are active.

I'm using LC's Soil-less Mix #1 and have some germmed seeds sitting in some red beer cups with the mix. Can I get by with this Vermiblend as a top dress through veg-flower? On the bag the NPK values were 1-2-1 (Gonna need a fact check, memory hazy). Or can I use this compost and mix it into my LC #1 mix? Will there be enough NPK to feed my plants through their life, or will I need to supplement with teas?

Another question regarding this Vermiblend stuff:

If I need to make a tea to supplement N-P-K/micronutes, can I use this Vermiblend stuff as my innoculum for the tea? Would I need to add any other supplemental nutes, or would the contents of the compost already make this available?
