Dirtiest Bongs of the World Unite! How do ya clean plastic?

L

LolaGal

I bought this bong back in the 1980s. She is about 15 inches tall.

The bong used to be a nice bright, clear GREEN!

Now she is brown, and ugly, but still smokes great.

Anybody got any suggestions on how to clean an acrylic bong? Have tried 420 cleaner stuff, and it sorta funkerized the color some more....didn't find anything useful searching....

Here she is, replacement parts and all!

And for those of you who are gonna say glass is better....I agree...anybody that has spare glass let me know...I priced a cheap glass bong locally and it was $100 for 6 inches of crap. Thanks.

AND THE ANSWER IS: (so you don't have to read the whole thing) You take olive oil and soak the acrylic pipe with it overnight. Then you take something and scrub the black gunk off the sides. Works Super! Yippie! Thanks FreezerBoy & JJScorpio for the suggestions of oil.

Here's what she looked like after cleaning with the Olive Oil.

ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD:
1) Yes, glass IS better.
2) I'm using it cause all the glass got broke
3) Yes, I DO wash it weekly, but can't get the black tar off the plastic without oil. Didn't know that when I posted the pic and asked what to use!
4) Yes, I DID GET a new glass BONG! It's great
5) NO, I'm not gonna throw my old friend in the garbage. Acrylic bong will be cleaned and put away for hard times.
6) No ALCOHOL can be used on acrylic bongs! It will F up the plastic and cause it to break!

my only suggestion is lots and lots of iso+salt washes in hot water

ive never used iso+salt to clean plastic or acrylic though.. might not be good for the bong

OK, I'll try alcohol and salt, but in the past, alcohol turns the plastic a funky white color, like a chemical reaction or something.

Let me see if I have any alcohol and I'll let you know if it works on plastic.

Glass being better is one thing... but plastic just doesn't even seem safe to me. I wouldn't puff from that thing if I were you, I don't want Gal a'croakin' on me here.

sometimes the easiest way to fix something is to merely dispose of the item in need of repair. maybe you're done smokin that thing, and could convert it into a lovely vase or lamp?

i keep some stuff forever too btw

I do think it may have some Legoinaire's Disease left over from the early 80s in there...haha....

I have lungs like ze mule! (At least I hope I do...)

I wash it by hand occasionally, with soap and water and a round bottle brush.

The clear green plastic has aged to a brownish Army camo looking color over the last few decades....pretty nasty ain't it? No head shops here in the sticks, and I can't afford $100 bucks for a tiny cheap glass piece like the nearest shop wants....

I'd just like to disinfect it somehow.... it is rather aged...I agree it is time for a new one... Although I think I would have to bury it with honors for faithful service.

Burying it would be bad on the environment. :puppydoge

I have a plastic bong just like yours, 'cept red, and I can't even fathom hitting from that thing anymore... gnastiness. Give your lungs a happy break.

why are so many stoners so goddamn nasty?...

some of these cats don't even change the water...
probably don't flush the toilet either

99% ISO alcohol
Rice (salt causes scratches in the glass..maybe rock salt wont)
Hot(close to boiling water to soften resin)
Lemon Juice - optional // is acidic and can bring a clean smell to the bong that the alcohol leaves

In all seriousness why not get the downstem and bowl out and make a new one?

You know you are trying to figure out how to clean a twenty year old piece of plastic fused with resins? It is just about fifty cents worth of plastic.

Get a hand grenade (the drink, not the explosive), a plastic bear they sell honey in, childrens sippy cups, flower vase, etc.

I bet for ten dollars you can get a box full of cups and stuff that are the right shape to make bongs out of.

you already have a base, a gromet, a stem, a soft ring to go around the top and everything else you need

the base of that bong should just pop off, with a cap underneath (if its anything like the one i had back in the day)

go to the hardwear store and find a 2 inch wide piece of acrylic plastic tubing

http://www.allproducts.com/plastic/tayi/06-acrylic_tube-l.jpg

drill a hole for the gromet and stem, snap everyhting else in place and fill with water.

Degreaser is best for plastic bongs. Alcohol will cause it to crack. Dollar General sells store brand degreaser in a spray bottle for about $5. At first glance it looks like Febreeze. It is so good, the plastic will look almost new when cleaned. Best stuff I've ever seen for acrylic. An old toothbrush will help clean stubborn spots. A round cardboard coat hanger dowel (the kind you hang pants on) makes a good extension for a toothbrush. You can use iso on the metal parts.

Hey CannaExists, have you ordered from that place before? Good prices, especially compared to what I see locally!

How much do they charge to ship to US? any hidden fees? etc.? Thanks
Yes I ordered a Roor from there, I don't remember the shipping price but nothing unreasonable, no hidden fees. They replied to all my questions promptly, good customer service.

thanks, I'd like to clean her real good even if I retire her.... She's an old friend of mine...faithful and true!

this thread made me go clean my bong.

and it pisses me off to no end because I can't get it perfectly crystal clear. It's a three-foot-long pipe with two round chambers at the bottom, and the lower of those is kinda grungy but I can't find a pipe brush or anything to reach in there... and isopropyl plus salt doesn't do it, I can't get it perfect.
