As we will be smoking large amounts of fine herb n´hash we will need some good chow as the munchies take hold of us.

Now i think personally that the dutch make exellent food and come to think of it i have never had an "bad" food experience on my many trips to holland.

But i especially love one thing in holland: There french fries!!!!!! DAMN they are good.....and i will reccomend my fellow icmaggers to give them a try. I know i will be eating alot of those....so if you need to find icetoker, just look for the next french fries vendor!!! LOL..

Please chip in if you know of some good resturants or places to eat......

I definately consume a larger than normal amount of chips when in 'dam, there are a few places where the portion sizes are :yoinks:

A lot of my friends swear by the waffles, though I'm never in the mood.

Last time we were there I got these little things from Albert Heijn - they were like bitesize profiteroles, but instead of runny chocolate, we're covered in a thin layer of hard, crisp choc. Mmmmmmm..

I think I will be doing a lot of my eating from the supermarket this time as a cost-saving exercise anyhow, not just because of the yummy chocolate things!

There is a bakers in the Jordaan can't remember the street name but I can find it where the best bakery munchies are available at very good prices not the 2 or 3 euro for a chocolate croissant. Not far from the GH United.

Mc: Yeah the waffels are great but i have to agree to the supermarket idea....they have sooooo much goodies (compared to danish supermarkets). Last lime i was in the dam i went with mi wife and my 2 youngest boys.....we went nuts in the supermarkets. All those delicious sandwithches, fruits and dont get me startet with the cheese (not the weed..lol).

The stroopwafel....is it the thin wafels with a caramel center? those are great, my boys loved them!!

Eat at Jo's at the Melkweg right off Leidseplein is one of my favorites. It's run by an ex-pat couple from Wisconsin and the food is always good. The menu changes daily and they're open Wednesday to Sunday.

any good and spicy chilli places around down there?

Well, the Fast Food Gods at FEBO [buy shares quick I get there Saturday...] do a few spicy numbers in the "Little letterboxes of temptation" ..... The excellent Indonesian [iirc Kam Yin or similar] at the top of Warmoestraat has some decently zingy dishes, but I have miserably failed to find my one true staple diet, CURRY ... any recommendations there Stoners ?

There is a couple of alright curry houses on the same road as Greenhouse united. Not that cheap though and last one I had was mutton not lamb.

Thin wafel cookies with a gooey caramel center. Yes, those are indeed the stroopwafels!!

Went to Albert Heijn last night, spent around 35 euro for two people and pretty much have meals for all six days. Some stuff is working out cheaper than Tesco at home.. I'm still in shock!

Kokopelli is a great restaurant, they serve mushrooms only but those little things are yum-yum-yummy. :D Theres a lot more of places like Kokopelli all around Amsterdam. :woohoo:

Kobe restaurant next to the palace (die port van cleef side ) is nice for Japanese etc but very expensive, to the left of the Krasnapolsky is a really great ice cream ( Soft Ijs ) stall which sells flavoured ice cream, the cherry is simply amazing.
For sandwiches there is always subway or the deli 100ft to the left if you prefer home made.
For chinese there is either the floating restaurant or the chineese restaurant just up from the Greenhouse shop. Vlaames Frites are best from the shop next to teasers on the main strip.
Pancakes, these are a bit subjective so it's best to try each place. Not like in the US where you get a huge pile though, you only get a single pancake in the dam.

I spent about €100 over the 2.5 days i was there but i ate incredibly well and have put on a huge pot belly since i went. Be aware that while the Kobe is amazing food it can cost €30-150 to eat there.

Hope it helps.

The Burger Bar!, if you stand in the doorway of 420 bar, (used to be DeKuil)
and look 20 yards to your left you can see it..

Top quality burgers fresh made while your waiting..

Burger Bar has my vote! Dr. D, his mate and I went there on Monday before the ceremonies and we had this Kobe Waygu Burger that was out of this world. Hands down winner in my book-- even gives d'Vijff Vlieghen (Five Flys Restaurant) a run for their euros... lol

Got to love a fair good burger. And that is the only spot in town that got them. Next year i am going to do some cooking i think. Nothing is as ood as my own made curry's. Ore Jah's and Ganja Babba they make nice curry also. I am just a real curry lover and the one i eat in the dam was not all that, good but nothing special.
