Cracking a safe!

I don't think you looked closely at the safe we're talking about ...

Also, while thermite would work, it would take a shit ton of it to get through something that thick. I'm guessing most of the people suggesting it have never mixed, lit, or even seen thermite in person. Having mixed it myself for years as a fireworks additive, I know a fair bit about it, and I can tell you that it would work, but not without problems.
congratulations gloaty mcgloatgloat the atf is probably on their way right now

Chances are you'll probably find a copy of the combination inside the safe...
where else would you keep it?

Alright guys,

Here is what I would do:

You have a good story, put it in nice writing and try to make it sound very exciting (not too hard from people's reaction here) then put the thing on ebay.

Some people are gambling addicts, they might pay a little fortune for the hope of finding something in it.

Do a little bit of research and try to find how much it is worth empty. Start the bid at this price. This way, you have nothing to lose.

What do you think?

So, because people are giving bad advice and I set it straight, I'm gloating? I'm glad you are on top of things. Thermite WILL NOT WORK.

Also, the ATF does not regulate thermite or any of the fireworks that I've created with it.

Now this is some serious thinking. Hauling that beast would take quite a sum of cash. Treasure hunters are often rolling in it, however.

This is a great idea...However, keep in mind that you too are gambling in this situation...you could be selling something of greater value for less money..I think you should find a locksmith with an auto-dialer as someone mentioned before...A device that goes on the bell of the safe and will try combos systematically..

Or you could even start at 00/00/00 and work your way up over time and document your work...it can be a thing for the whole family and someday when you're kinda over it and not expecting it...it will open. Use it as your smoking past time...go through a J or two and systematically try each combo.

Imagine if you had found documentation with the safe when you got it of the last person's attempt and the combos that haven't worked yet...

Good point... But, how much will it cost to open it? What if you break it and lower its value?

We have a say in french for which I don't think there's an equivalent in english: One "certain" today is better then two "maybe" tomorrow. :)

Googling the safe model brings this thread in the first few search results, there's no documentation online about it.

edit: it is more likely there is nothing in the safe then something. Yes I am a gambler but when I play Texas Hold'em, I choose the route that has the better odds statistically to maximize my chances of winning in the long run...

The down-side to that it is, suppose it is loaded with "goodies" ?

those funny shaped (and famous) cannon ball safes where made to be blast proof due to all the safe blastings at the time ...hence the round shape and incredible thickness, absolutely miserable to try and blast or impact

its weakness is simply getting a locksmith's auto dialer hooked up as someone has mentioned

even if the safe is empty, it in itself is probably worth a small fortune, if its functioning and not wielded to bits

you cant buy this yourself, but a locksmith can provide you with this service
