Woohoo :canabis:

My LUI just lifted her skirt and showed me a little preflower. :woohoo:

Otherwise things are a pretty slow here in the Lodge. I checked my pH on the last watering with the run off on all the plants about 6.7.

If you've followed any of my grows, I test the pH of the soil regularly with an aquarium test kit. These are like $5 at a pet store.

To get started testing pH, you need to know what your tap water is like. My tap water is excellent and tests out at 7.0 with no minerals or salts.

The second thing to test is the pH of your nutrient mixture. If you know what you're putting into the pot then you'll have a good idea what runs out of it.

When I water my plants, I only put enough water in so it starts to drip out. I collect the water that drains out and test the pH. This isn't the true pH of the soil but it does give you a good idea what's happening in the pot.

When I was running salt based fertilizers like Shultz 10-15-10 and using Epsom salts for Mg source, the salt residue would buildup and pull the pH down. I would flush out the soil to recover.

I'm using Dolomite Lime for Ca and Mg and Advanced Nutrients Sensi fertilizers which are salt free. My pH is stable through the grow and I never have to flush.

This is for the more advanced growers. I use the pH reading to see if the plant is taking up nutes or water because the pH will change accordingly.

I'm trying to follow a weekly feeding schedule where you feed once a week and water in between if needed.

Nutes build up in the soil so if I see a dropping of the pH, then that plant needs water on the next cycle. This is very important near the end of flowering as the plant slows down its nute uptake.

Also if it's hot or really dry the plant will take up more water than nutes and pull the pH down as the nutes concentrate in the soil.

If the plant is growing hard, the pH will rise so I feed on the next cycle.

I began growing using Shultz 10-15-10, Epsom Salts, Blood and Bonemeal and Dolomite Lime. I decided to get off the salt based fertilizers because of the pH swings and having to periodically flush the soil.

I had my nute choices narrowed down to GH FloraNova, PureBlend Pro or the AN line. My local shop carries the AN line but not the FN so I went with it.

AN makes a ton of products and my research revealed that the Sensi base nute and the Big Bud are the key components. The other stuff in the lineup isn't really needed.

When I bought my nutes, I was about two weeks into flowering and missed the window for using the Big Bud. I was really pleased with the Sensi Bloom as a stand alone nute. See my 150HPS grow thread for results.

AN puts out this nutrient calculator which is pretty useless unless you buy their whole product line of stuff.

Here's the schedule for just the Sensi AB and Big Bud following the light feeding schedule. This is my plan for this grow. I might be picking Overdrive for the last couple of weeks. We'll see.

Lookin great red!
Nice planning on the ferts.
I'm in a world of hurt with my soil based headband girls right now, hoping to avoid it next time by doing some good pre-production like you have!

I made a quick cloner tonight before the lights went out on the girls, well girl anyway as the LUI is a fem.

The cloner is made from a baby spinach PET plastic container with 2" of Perlite and 1" of water. Each clone was dipped into some rooting hormone I picked up at Crappy Tire.

I took 4 cuttings from TL1, TL2 and the LUI so I should have a minimum of 8 rootable clones for round 2.

The cloner is now in my R2D2, remember this guy. It's loaded with 4 x 13W CFL's and is parked in a bedroom closet.

LOL - I wonder what the Rubbermaid company thinks. Just google it and you come up with micro grows. Muahahaha.... Same thing as little Johhnie wants to do a school report on the Beaver, Canada's industrious builder.

I took a peek at my girls cause I'm doing laundry and spotted a Mg deficiency starting. I could see a bit on one of the TL's yesterday when I watered with Week 1 flowering mix. The girls are growing pretty hard right now and the def was worse on the TL and just starting on the other TL and SB.

I decided to give a rewatering with the Week 2 solution that has Big Bud which has Mg in it. I've made up a foliar spray with Epsom salts with 1 tsp/gal. I'll spray them tonight when the lights go out.

I've been looking forward to using the Big Bud. I've only used a flowering fertilizer once on my first grow. It was Shultz 15-50-30 or something like that. I put it on later in the grow but was sort of scared to use it. My later grows with Shultz 10-15-10 had nute problems starting week 2-4 so I didn't get using the Shultz flowering. My last grow I bought the Sensi and BB in about week 3 or 4 and wanted to get a handle on the Sensi.

Here's my rogues gallery

Thai Lights #1 - still a Pat...

Thai Lights #2 - what's that, it's Pat...

LUI - or should I say Louise...

Shiskaberry - another Pat or maybe a Kim...

Little TL#1

Little TL#2

Little LUI

Mag Def on TL#2

I thought this picture would show it clearer. There's a definate light zig zag ring around the outside edge of all the top leaves.

I saw this on the TL#1 and the Shiskaberry this morning and it seems that the Big Bud turned them around. Gotta be quick on these def's.

Ratz I had my camera set on normal not macro. I was in a hurry to take pictures and foliar feed before they went to bed. You can see the little ones had thier drink.

So, you're going to stop the mag def w/ a big-bud folier feed, or are you adding it into your water also?

Man, those things are growing like weeds!!:headbange

Lookin' good - show an "after shot" on TL#2, OK?

Hey I2KanGrow and #1Cheesebuds. Thanks for droppin' by the Lodge.

Nope - I gave them a foliar of Epsom salts mixed about 1-1/2 tsp/gal and watered them with the week2 SensiBloom and Big Bud mixture for the first time. The Big Bud is 0-15-40 with 7% soluable Magnesium. I have dolomite lime in the soil.

The Shiska is a confirmed girlie. I found a little preflower after work this afternoon. So that makes 2 out of 7 with the LUI showing first.

Here's a quick update.

Just found TL#1 is a boy. This was my bestest plant that was shooting up a bit quicker than the rest. I'm going to keep him around for a bit and collect some pollen. Hopefully I can get some TL x TL and TLxLUI seeds. I'm not going to cross the Shiskaberry since these were selfed and will carry hermi traits. I still have some of the Kenny's Mix Dutch Treat x Shiskaberry seeds left.

I gave Timmy a good haircut, took the top node off and all the fans and left 4 growth shoots. He was taking up too much space.

P.S. I tried to take some up close shots of the male preflowers but my camera doesn't focus in that tight.

I'm hoping that you document your pollen-collecting & polination when the time comes - that'll be an interesting thread!

I've been having a hell of a time trying to take good pictures under HPS - what a pain!

Keep it growing - Red!!!

Here's a quick pick under the lights. The TL and LUI are still stretching so I moved my shelf down again.

I found a few hairs on TL#2 but it has the same little cluster of preflowers developing that look similar to TL#1. I'm not so sure if TL#1 is a boy now. I'm thinking the Thai genes are a little different than the Sativa/Indica's that I'm used to.

All these guys have big huge indica leaves that are gonna get trimmed pretty soon.

Hey I2 - yeah, I'll take some pics as I go. All I was planning on doing was growing the male until it showed some nanners and move it into the Rubbermaid in another room in the house. When the flowers open, would collect it into a paper envelope with some rice or a dessicant from a pill bottle.

Flowering Day 14 update

TL#2 - showing starting bud formation

LUI - showing bud formation and lot's of big honking indica fan leaves

Shiska - staying squat with lot's of undergrowth - showing buds

TL#1 - I think it's a girl and it's showing bud formation too

TL#3 and TL#4 in the back with LUI#2 in the front. Still Larry Curly and Moe

I gave the TL#2 and the LUI a good trim and took off the huge fan leaves and some sucker shoots. The little guys are looking a bit N deficient so they got a feeding of Grow nutes.

Agreed! Please do document how you'll be collecting pollen. I'd like to do the same should I get a male. Teach us, oh benevolent master!

Keep up the good work!!!

ps - so far it looks like 8 out of 10 of mine have germed and are rolling (hopefully the other two will pop up out of the soil as well!) - wish me luck!

Hey Banjobrain, good luck on the seedlings. That's the hardest part to get them started. I had problems on this grow and I'm off to the races now.

I pronounced maleness too soon on TL#1. I think it's Thai genes have different preflowers. This is sort of sick but I'm hoping for a male now from one of the three little guys.

P1020167_Medium_.JPG

P1020166_Medium_.JPG

I checked out the girls this morning and found TL#2 is still shooting up and was touching the glass. I gave the TL#2 and the LUI one more haircut today and took off more suckers and big fans to open the box up to the other plants. I should have taken the bottle shot with the first fan leaves that I cut off yesterday, they were 2x as big.

Funny thing, have you noticed that my grows have a pretty high female/male ratio. I'm not growing a lot of plants to give a but still I think out of 10 plants that I grew from seed to sexing only 1 has been male.

This makes me wonder about the state of things. Right now good genetics are going for $150/10 with CC winners pulling in $300/10 from Canadian seedbanks. You see feminized seeds being pushed and clones being sold in the US dispensaries. With all this breeding and inbreeding, are males being bred out of the seeds?

So the big question is, how does a little grower get and make seeds if he doesn't have access to males?

G

guest 77721

Here's my TL#2. The bud really took off in the last two days and has lot's of little ball flowers. It sure looks male to me but the flowers aren't quite the shape that I've seen on the other indica's that have been male or have had a hermi male flower pop out. I'm thinking that's the Thai genes or more of a pure sativa like.

It's growing lot's of them and quickly. There is also one big female preflower.

What do you guys think? Timmy or Tammy?
