First led run

Hi

I have 4 plants under one of those ufo leds. In the interweb I've seen some nice grows and many not so nice.

I've understood that the penetration of leds is similar to that of cfls and therefore the plant are being lst:d to some extent. The goal is to keep them at around 40 cm high.

I got a couple of 10 litre buckets and one 30 litre box which 2 plants are sharing.

This is a quite recent picture, taken 6th of april. Light was switched on to 12/12-cycle at april fool's day. The plant are about 30 cm tall.

What kine seed?
Been growing with leds for a while now.
Got 1 UFO, (new), and 4 homebrew arrays.
Let me know if I can be of any help.

I'm fasscinated by the idea of LEDs, but haven't yet seen a grow put out any kind of decent results for the money spent on it. I looked at buying a UFO myself for 1 day, but then decided against. So I'll be watching this grow to see the yield possible.

There's supposed cuts of ak47,blueberry and some hazy hybrid. Also greenhouse wreck there in back right. Yieldwise I'm estimating something around 50g if all goes decently. I quess it could go higher in optimal conditions, but not expecting more at this time around. I'm also prepared for quite extreme bondage with them. The wreck was couple weeks ahead of the rest so I let the others grow with less training as of now.

I used to have a 250 watter hps and with that I could overgrow my own needs. Don't need that much bud, but growing all kinds of interesting strains is nice in itself. I also started to have some disconcers from having a hot bulb in a small closet in terms of firehazard.

I'm gonna take it easy on ferts at first, since my feeding was adjusted to a bigger light. The veg cycle was with just plain water since the the soil has some nutrients left.

Weezard: Thanks and I'm open to suggestions as this goes along.

In the meantime, photo from month ago:

All except the wreck(which got a week of cfl as a small seedling) have been from the start under the ufo. Rooted cuttings were planted 28.2

Could you give some info on the UFO please? Watts, cost, temp ie hot to touch but ok at x distance or cool to touch the leds.
Also perhaps include a photo of the plants when the ufo is off?
thanks

Sure, this one taken couple days ago before the lamp was raised a bit:

Gotta tie 'em down a bit..been lazy lately. The ufo is a 90 watter, it's cool to touch and emits some heat from the sides, but not much compared to other lights. It also has 3 fans inside, so its' somewhat noisy. The thing was around 230 euros with taxes and the rest. Made in china. I quess you can drop the price lower with group-orderings and such. It' seems to work fine.

I was lazy and and just bought one for curiosity.

Thanks unthing, it certainly seems to be doing the job in veg for 90 watts of power, even if the purchase price is a little steep. I supose that if it does a good job in flower too, then the initial cost will soon be recovered by lower power bills. Can't wait to see how it does in flower.

Wow 90 watts? Does it convert to a higher wattage if you compare it to normal bulbs? Like how CFL's say it's 30 watts when it putts out 100 watts? Really like the grow so far, the color of the light is sweet, nice purply purp.

I'll be following this one!

Check out my CFL grow if you want, thanks!

Next pictures maybe in 1,5-2 weeks.

Thank you all for interest. In ads they compare these things to hids in the 400 w-scale. But that's ads.

Yeah I was searching for a replacement for my 400w HPS when I found them, got really interested for a while but then figured I couldnt risk that much cash on a gamble. Cool to watch someone else's gamble though lol.

Maybe with salad the ufo might be comparable to 400w hps..
As of plants the stretch seems to be quite small for now, like 10-15cm and it's 12th day of 12/12.

Thanks Jamie and Pato.

I think that for small grows these things will rock soon. For bigger grows they are just too expensive now. I'd love to see someone trying those 300-600w ledlights. There's a lot of potential.

Hi

Specs say that the core temperature of it can reach 60 degrees celsius but it is cool to touch, cooler than a running laptop on maybe(very rough quess.).
