Hey Thunder, I use some thing a lot like that to hold a few "reveging" cuts I took a while back(2 months ago), and a few bonsai moms and they are doing fine. The only thing that I have found that is a pita is how fast they go through the water(can't let them go for more than a day w/out showing bad effects). What I have been trying to work out is a way to recirculate the water in them(like RDWC but on a smaller scale, more like RMSWC). The only thing holding me back is what to use to seal the holes. I have tried make smaller holes than the tubing(contained gave way, massive leakage), rubber grommets don't seem to do the job(thin walls and all) and silicone doesn't seem to stick all that well. Any one have any suggestions?

LOL Thunder!! Is there anything that you won't try? Improvise and overcome dude, improvise and overcome.

Just another Thundurkle thread for me to lurk and learn from. Keep on thinking free brother.
:lurk:

Good shit Erkle:joint: I love the rebellious nature in you as I share the same trait:dueling: I love doing what nooone thinks can be done. If I was in the position I would most likely be trying exotic shit my self. I know that when I get my seed bank going (5-10) years its going to be rediculas. Imma create some super chronic. But ya...mad props on the crazy out of the box idea man. Its going to work and then your gonna be able to put like 4-6 of thos ein your cab and completly shit on the laws of microgrowing as they are now.
Keep it up bro and make that shit happen. Lots of ganja goodness coming your way from my bong.

You dont need to recirculate, add a float valve with an elevated top off res to automatically backfill of your small res. I would start by filling the top off res with 1/3 nute concentration and make adjustments from there. Once you figure out the nute concentration for the top offs(will vary depending on strain, size and age), you can go about a week with a 1 gallon DWC res and a 1.5 gallon backfill res without any major fluctuations. At first I would reccomend checking up on them every other day, recording PPM and PH changes...then using that to adjust future backfill concentrations.

Only parts you need are:
bulkhead style float valve ~$6-20
hose(right size for float valve) ~$2-5
bukhead style fitting (either barbed for hose or NPT then use a NPT to hose adapter) ~$2-4
additional backfill res ~$2-5
hose clamps ~$2

You do have to make sure the float valve will fit in the res. Here are some of the smallest ones Ive found.... http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog_name=usplastic&category_name=6109&product_id=12596&variant_id=23099 The adjustable ones will allow you to adjust water level, but they are ~1" longer so keep that in mind.
*edit* if you find or know of a smaller float valve, please post it up or pm me.

Dont get me wrong, recirculating would be work great too, but it would end up costing more, you would have more lines to run (one pumping in and 1 returning), more fittings to possibly leak, a pump generating heat(could be placed on a timer for very little heat), and a chance for clogs and overflows.

Sorry to steal some of your thunder, Thundurdunkle, but I can't pm yet. My containers are less than half the size of Thunder's, so a float valve won't quite cut it(they just don't make them that small). But with just a little bit of digging around(read, read, and then read some more!), I have found something that will work(I think), so I will put up a link to it. (I take no credit for this idea, even though I wish I had thought of it)

ps- this site also has a copy of OG's FAQ on it, which is super handy

sweet.....thanks for the link. Should have figured there would be an easy way to accomplish auto top off using controlled siphon....never really thought about it too much after I saw the small float valves. Id rather make this than buy the float valves anyhow. I'm going to throw one of these together right now!

Thanks!

No problem Toast that link is really good I'm always open to new ideas like GreenSmoke said there's nothing I wont try when it comes to growing if I think it will suit my situation...

Just made one of those siphon addback controllers. Lite 1 gallon jugs dont work, the begin to collapse and cause all kinds of trouble. A 1 liter pop bottle works great...I dont have any 2 liters to try. Used regular airline and it worked. I used some 1" square plastic lower portion of the vaccum line(where it seals with the water level)....seems to work perfect.

Thanks again for the link Toast!

Hey no big man, I do what I can. I was thinking that one of those big juice bottles(like V-8 comes in) would work a lot better than a soda bottle. They see to be pretty sturdy, at least enough to get past it air pressure. Another option I am looking at is a gallon sized glass jar, which would hold a lot more water(vacation anyone?)

thunk, stupid question which I already know the answer too as yes.
What about starting the with cuttings and filling with superthrive water. This way you don't need a cloner, you never need to transplant, and you could easily make them modular in order to easily move from veg/flower. Basically drop a new one every two weeks just like to the pop bottles.
Build a basic way to keep the water res or soo many, or just change every two weeks. I love my pop bottles in soil, but watering every 2 days dunking or gravity fed bottle feeding, only to have to changing every two weeks.

ps currently ripped on some nice kush so if this doesn't make sense please just smile and continue your fourm reading :)

Dude i was thinking about doing this exact same thing today when I was making a new bubble cloner! I am sooooo excited to watch this!!!!

It's very cool that you are doing it with such a shallow container so us micro guys could apply it, I hope for the best for you man.

Are you just using FloraNova series or anything else?

Nice I'm glad I got so much support, yea I'm just using FloraNova grow right now I'd like to go to Tiger Bloom from weeks 3 till harvest but I don't know if that will cause problems since it was used to GH's mix I just know Fox Farm nutes make my bud taste better than FloraNova

You can switch just fine Thunder, just as long as you don't give them a radical pH change or anything, they'll keep eating like nothing happened.

As for taste, have you done a full run with only 8ml/gal with that yet? You'll notice a significant difference there as well. :) Sweeeet, sweet taste and a nice clean burn to a white ash. Very clean :)

In soil I'd suggest a light flush of straight RO the last 2-3 waterings. (however long that is). Not sure on that one though as all my harvests have been hydro so far. :)

Looking awesome as ever Amigo! ;)

Hydro-soil,
When do you start giving 8ml per gal? Have some NL girls 2 weeks into flower, not showing hairs yet and are at 700 ppm. Am affraid to boost up so much. What pH are you starting with and how are you doing addbacks? Have been just topping off with diluted nutes to bring back up. PPM is starting to go down by about 50 per night. Should they just get full dosed? They are in DWC.

Thunder,
How is the rockwool doing? Think all the roots will fit? Good luck!

I give them 8ml/gal of FN Bloom as soon as I switch to flower. Before that I use between 5 and 7ml/gal of FN Grow.

I've yet to run across a strain that did anything more than crisp the very tips of their leaves. After that they just dig in and grow. :woohoo:
