From "Words of Wisdom", by President Ikeda, On Women's Beauty. On www.ikedaquotes.org.

I find a woman's face weathered from numerous storms in life to be beautiful. No matter what her age, just like the beauty of grains on wood that deepens with passage of time, beauty that has endured hardships shines with a distinctive splendor.

When one sees a woman for what she really is, free of decoration or cosmetics, I believe her life in all its naturalness, and her true, indestructible beauty emerges.

From "A Road Map to Happiness. Concise explanations of Nichiren Buddhist concepts and practice", in Living Buddhism, Jan/Feb 2009, page 50.

Renge, of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, means "lotus blossom." This beautiful flower that blooms in muddy swamps symbolizes the presence of enlightenment amid ignorance and suffering. In other words, whatever our difficulties and delusions, we always have within ourselves the potential for enlightenment. Through earnestly chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we can access the boundless joy and wisdom of Buddhahood.

H E L L O everybody!..... and I mean everyone that wakes up every morning with a whole new slate to write too. We are living forward through every effort we make to change something for the better. As long as our efforts are sincere and caring for a positive outcome in all our puposes in life we can only become what our chanting promises......faith........ doubt free that is........and this thread is proof!

Hey SoCal, so good to see our guide back. I've never been lost when I follow your path.

Babba, bud your spirit has been moving at light speed!......so clear, such a good vibration.......it gives me shivers

Scegy, your support is like a granite pillar.....you do help to hold us all up!

Easy, your life has not been easy, but like wilson said, your a bold warrior who keeps a steady pace while your tromp and romp through your life and ALL of Ours. You could never fail bro,,,,,,, the writing is on the wall.......you are my true inspiration.

Wilson, your like the SouthWest wind that brings in a warm tropical climate with all the colorful birds that sing spring back into life.......you are whole, you are pure.........

Thomas, you are our mentor here,........ and as you can or will see, we carry-on what you started in a forward direction as we all climb to the top of Mt. Eagle to soar in the sunlight together as one positive cause......it's a damn big Universe that is moving forward constantly and for ever changing.

I am really grateful for everything, good & bad......

Love Desi!

PS. Bonz and Hitman, we got new climbing boots, less slippage on the icy slopes...LOL

We are turning a new leaf in 2009 my friends! Thank you desi for the call to rally behind Daimoku! I took on an even greater mantle yesterday and vowed to meet with every Young Man practicing Buddhism in my region and do my best to connect them to our organization and also to support them in their chanting. I think that critical moment that President Ikeda always talks about is the present time for me, and like the Daishonin says I will "remain steadfast in my faith".

FAITH is ACTION. Nothing more! If you idle your days away or momentarily chant daimoku with the capacity and resources to do more than what you are accomplishing then it is time to raise the bar! I needed to stop working in another state to reorganize and engage the members in a more fruitful way. Only seeing members at meetings is not enough, we need to listen to each other's struggles, offer advice and encourage study! I know this from my life and have been realizing it for quite some time.

Thomas told me to unite more with a Region leader that we both know whom practiced with Thomas in his youth. I have accomplished this and will set out on my most ambitious shakubuku campaign ever. I will keep you all posted!

Please note I was kinda caught off guard but due to my faith I have been weathering this storm like a champ in the right gear! Neither wind nor snow nor negative function in the universe will deter me. Again I'll be sure to share my progress with each you! Also I strongly encourage you to receive your Gohonzon as soon as possible. You never know what's beyond the horizon and "tis better to be safe (protected) then sorry!" Trust me on this one, I know!

The quality of my life from before I started chanting to now (just over 3 year) is the difference between NIGHT and DAY or Winter and Spring! It even gets better when you practice with Gohonzon in your home.

Let's turn a new leaf and reinvigorate our practice! :)

From "Buddhist Learning for January. Learning from the Writings. The Hope-Filled Teachings of Nichiren Daishonin. SGI President Ikeda's Lecture Series", in Living Buddhism, Jan-Feb, 2009, page 60-61.

Attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime entails a fierce struggle to change our karma, as well as to overcome the various challenges posed to our practice by the three obstacles and four devils, and the three powerful enemies. The trials of winter are unavoidable if we wish to soar into a brilliant springtime based on faith.

Wisdom for Modern Life by Daisaku Ikeda

A coward cannot become a Buddha. We cannot attain Buddhahood unless we possess the heart of a lion. The harsher the situation, the bolder the stand we must take. This is the essence of the Soka Gakkai spirit.

Truly praiseworthy are those who resolve to work hard for kosen-rufu and the SGI within the lofty realm of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. They are genuinely capable people. And they will definitely attain life-conditions of complete fulfillment.

"If a vessel is free of these four faults of overturning, leaking, being defiled, and being mixed, then it can be called a perfect vessel. If the embankments around a moat do not leak, then the water will never escape from the moat. And if the mind of faith is perfect, then the water of wisdom, the great impartial wisdom, will never dry up."

Progress is good when you chant before you take actions!

Progress is good when you chant before you take actions!

I'm aiming towards One Million Daimoku and working on a new list of goals I want to accomplish. I was just chanting for half an hour with a nice lady that came to chant with me and before we started we were talking about the "bucket list". Apparently, there is some movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman about one of them or both are dying (terminal) and one of them makes a list of things to do before he or they kick the bucket (expire/die, so to speak). So one of these two characters is wealthy and helps the other complete his "bucket list". The Gohonzon is even more powerful and capable of helping us find and create the right circumstances for these resources and results accelerate and our desire for kosen-rufu (world peace) to manifest!

In this practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism we encourage each other to chant at home and/or with others for kosen-rufu as well as any other causes/desires/wishes/needs you or others may have. I'm going to keep challenging myself to do as much daimoku (chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo!) as possible and really create the best possible environment for all of us. In absence of Justice where we live, our Buddhist Practice emerges! As we all know there is no time like the present to accomplish that seemingly elusive goal that we've been needing to challenge!

As we chant more and more let's keep uniting and sharing our progress with our prayers more publicly! It sure is a challenge but it could help us keep a list of and reminder of things and people we should be chanting with and towards. I know I still chant for Southern Girl and GordyP and Jolene and Bonzo's Grandpa (and Mom), Desi to receive his Gohonzon, Socal's family, Those whom Thomas has asked us to honor, and especially each of you who post or haven't been posting in the past few months (and or years!) I'm supporting you.

Barack Obama did not mention Buddhists when he ran down the list of major American religions and "non-believers", but I believe it is because he may recognize that we are all capable of Humanistic endeavors and Buddhism is essentially the practice of Compassionate Humanism. Today even many people do not wish to get caught up in labeling people among other things, and Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism when practiced correctly is not affiliated with any temples or priests. There is no need to seek Happiness and Buddhahood outside your own life. Thus this need for an intermediary is abolished!

It's silly how I never really learned this until I desired to chant with a more open heart. Nevertheless, the problems continue to ebb, but my faith will keep on flowing. So with that said, Tonight Mr.Morinaka is giving a study lecture and I'll be doing soka group (behind the scenes support) to represent my support for the Daishonin as a Chanting Grower (toking Bodhisattva)! yes it really all started here, on this thread!

It's all about the strength of a Lion's Roar that emerges from within when we say:

Respect, and carry on my friend Myoho!
i must say i'm in a slight dead end in shakubuku-ing, i feel like i must be patient and first clear my shit up and then talk about it with the others. I mean i'm not being quiet about it, i talked about chanting to almost every person i know, but they don't seem to be so confused about things and they don't want to get deeper in their demons like i do.
so i sometimes get anctious and feel like i'm all alone in this, and it would be maybe better that i just played the game, get a job, forget about my passions and wishes and "grow up" sort of, but i know things won't get better on their own in my head, specially if i forget about my dreams and all the wishes that arose every day.

so mostly what i do now is that i keep chanting, passing the exams and trying not to fight with my gf and just take all the anger and shit infront of the Gohonzon and work it out, like a fitness.

in a strange way, i feel better even though i don't have what a "normal" couple should provide, at least i'm doing some action no matter what, not stopping!

something happened when i went on a study meeting, i will talk about it when things move on a little further, but, definetly shows me how quick my stupidity could(and did a lot in the past) take away my chances in life and how great is the Gohonzon at keeping my fulishness at bay, because he shows me things that i would stuff in a corner of my head.

may our throats never be soar, so we can keep on chanting!

"Let others hate you if they will. What have you to complain of, if you are cherished by Shakyamuni Buddha, Many Treasures Buddha, and the Buddhas of the ten directions, as well as by Brahma, Shakra, and the gods of the sun and the moon? As long as you are praised by the Lotus Sutra, what cause have you for discontent?"."

With confidence and good cheer, with joy and vitality, let us tell others about this great philosophy of hope that is summed up in the words, "Winter always turns to spring." Let us illuminate humanity with the light of compassion and wisdom of Nichiren Buddhism, and thereby usher in the spring of peace, the spring of culture and the spring of an age of humanity.

Around the world,

"Understand then that the votary who practices the Lotus Sutra exactly as the Buddha teaches will without fail be attacked by the three powerful enemies. In the more than two thousand years that have passed since the Buddha's advent, Shakyamuni himself, T'ien-t'ai and Dengyo were the only three who perfectly carried out the Buddha's teachings. Now in the Latter Day of the Law, Nichiren and his disciples and lay believers are just such practitioners."

"My disciples, you should believe what I say and watch what happens. These things do not occur because I myself am respectworthy, but because the power of the Lotus Sutra is supreme. If I praise myself, people will think that I am boastful, but if I humble myself, they will despise the sutra. The taller the pine tree, the longer the wisteria vine hanging from it. The deeper the source, the longer the stream. How fortunate, how joyful! In this impure land, I alone enjoy true happiness and delight."

"Carry through with your faith in the Lotus Sutra. You cannot strike fire from flint if you stop halfway. Bring forth the great power of faith, and be spoken of by all the people of Kamakura, both high and low, or by all the people of Japan as "Shijo Kingo, Shijo Kingo of the Lotus school!" Even a bad reputation will spread far and wide. A good reputation will spread even farther, particularly if it is a reputation for devotion to the Lotus Sutra."
