My clones were looking great, 2 rooted and I transplanted in good potting soil that was very moist but not wet. Now they are very wilted and look very bad, also even tho it has been about 2 weeks since I took the other clones, every time I try to give them more air by removing the dome, they start wilting very bad also. Any ideas....

What light are you putting them under? And what is the temp?
They should have hardened off in a couple days. Are you sure the soil isn't to wet?

I used this method again my last round of clones...

JJ and all others that have an opinion. how do you get plants to stretch a little more. at 45 days from seed (10 different strains) 5 inches under 12 27 watt cfl's (6500k/5000k) they have a node distance of about 1/2 inch,some as little as a 1/4 inch or less, going on 9-10 sets of leafs about 8 inches tall. at every new node there have started a new top but without stretch it would be hard to get the cut 3/4 the way into the rapid rooter without burying them, are they just to young to take cuts or is there a way to promote stretch? thanks in advance for all you do. It's people like you that facilitate change in the very best way, by actively helping the universe let it happen.
right now there in 3x3x3 rockwool sitting on a 2 inch bed of perlite 18 in a standard prop tray, they are extremely crowded. 20 on 4 off with dutch master nutes. I am waiting on a equipment order and am not sure if I should transplant to soil or hydroten ebb and flow as they will all be moms
I will be going to hydro shop tomorrow I believe they carry fox farm soil, I already have 2 bags of black gold potting soil, would that work or is it best to make a custom mix? a good recipe? I received a 1000w, hps/mh, xtrasun, 6" ac combo with a hortlux mh bulb today and am ready to get these moms producing like the mormons do. this is still new to me so any advice is much appreciated. thanks for all the help, may good energy and karma follow you through all parts of your journey

any opinion on what soil to use? do I need to spend a while mixing?
I usually just buy this soil called perfect mix from Walmart. Add a little perlite and a tbs of pulverized dolomite lime per gallon of soil....
If you have a place nearby that sells foxfarms or other expensive soils you can use them but I see just as good of results with the lesser priced soils....
Remember not to "drench" the soil when you transplant them....

This is a really good tutorial. It was simply explained and detailed. I might try my hand at cloning next. Slowly, I am starting to be more "hands on" in our garden. This would be a valuable skill to have.

Sorry JJ I just saw your response,
They are under 2 shop fluorescent lights, I think they are 40 w each but may be 25w, they are on 24-7. I also have a small heat pad under them while they were under the dome, and I am using those little peat plugs that swell up when you get them wet. Its about 68 or 70 degree in the room. I may have had them too wet, not sure, one made it but is still recovering slowly. Now I started a new batch and they are rotting on the stem after about 10 days. Does it sound like I have them to wet? It seems like when I let them dry out they start wilting, then I add a little water and the look good again until around 10 days when some begin to rot.
I'll try any thing you say, I'm running out of cuttings cause the moms are about 3 weeks into flowering SCROG style.

I have a hard time keeping the peat pellets at the right amount of moisture. If they are rotting at the stem they are obviously to wet and maybe even to warm, but not necessarily. They dry out very fast so it might be a good idea to try and keep them dryer and give them a teaspoon of water a day to keep them moist, but not to moist....

I grow three plants from seed, indoor in soil under fluorescent. It's meant to be a micro grow.
I hope that at least one of them will be a girl. My question is, how long do i have to wait to clone her? I see that the plants i grow in my setup only develop one main stem and no side branches. How will i be able to take more than one clone at a time? Also, how long should i generally wait before cloning? I heard i can just take the topmost node, count down one node and essentially top the plant (when it's like 14 days old). Instead of throwing the tip away i was told i can put it in cloning medium and sex it / grow it. Is that right?
