Benji, Trip! 5.6 is very close to being 10 times more acidic than 6.3. Better to run more consistent. I've never run Pro mix,but w/ coco i run 6.2. With a completely inert media, e.g. rockwool, hydroton, etc, which has no CEC, I run lower. What's the correct PH? The answer is dependant on the CEC of a given medium. Generally the higher the CEC value, the more akaline your nute solution should be.

Hope this helps,

Awesome thanks chili ill be making sure its at 6.2 from now on..

Hey CC,

Nice show as always. Just curious, do you ever use the FF Big Bloom? Never tried it myself, but I read good things. Also do you happen to have a link to where the The Guano Company teas are sold? They sound interesting. I tried google, but strangely enough it's producing links to your threads here at IC, and that's about it :muahaha:

Thanks for any info

should webe making sure the ph is in line from the water source and the medium and then go from there or just the water ph. I know good coco is ph neutral from what I've heard. yeah coco with organic nutes is the way to go. any info or pointing in the direction for research appreciated in advance.

Hill, try googling "budswel". That's the name of the product. It's listed with tons of online hydro companies and garden suppliers. :)

Highfromthelou, Forget about the medium, there's nothing you can do about the pH of the medium EXCEPT to adjust the water and/or fertilizer solution you add to the medium. That's all you can control.

I, persoanlly, will allow my pH to range between 5.7-6.2. The reason i do this is because I want the medium to be moving slightly between these pH levels to make sure the pH range moves through the effective availability ranges of all the various nutrients and minerals in the medium. For example... if I feed them at 6.2 pH one day, I might give them 5.8 pH'd water the next time they need water. If you average the two waterings/feedings, you get an average pH of 6.0 between the two waterings/feedings. So the pH drifts within the safe range and helps the plants use up as much of the available nutrient as possible in this way. That probably makes no sense, but it does to me. :)

pH drift is bad for plants, but only if the drift goes out or the safe range for the plants. For example, a bad drift would be where you feed at 6.2 once day, then 7.2 the next day, then the next time you feed them at 5.3. This is WAY too extreme for plants, and they'll hate you for it.

Thank you for getting back to me on that, much appreciated!

Just wondering if you have tried fox farms big bloom? It seems pretty similar to the budswel as far as ingredients, although perhaps a little hotter.

What did you think of it? I'm assuming you prefer the budswel though

I used to use Big Bloom and had no issues with it, other than it was hotter than I like, as you say. I'd still use it if I needed it, but I like the idea of the guano teas because there's nothing at all added to stabilize the mixture... just a light tea. :)

Great thread CC...dig your work. Just thought I would chime in. I have DEFINITELY noticed that a lot of the FF lines are HOT. I used FF Ocean Forrest for seedlings, and lost maybe 25 seedlings cause the soils too hot...shit sucked
good vibes
