UK Growers thread

dave i would think the results would be much the same with the 100mm cannon lens you could even use a 60mm cannon lens i was looking at
only thing with the 60mm lens is you would have to go closer to subject but the results should be much the same

Cheers Zafira, look vorward to your next bud shots.

DaveMR - That 100mm canon Macro usm is the absolute dogs danglies. tried the 60mm and the 100mm at my local camera shop and they both rock, really really hard to fault them at all. The fact that the 100mm doesn't extend at all is killer.

Currently tunnelvisioned on the 100mm as it gives a few more options for me personally. Hong Kong sellers on the bay have the cheapest but might be worth weighing up the canon cashback offer.

A quick peek at what I've got going this year, no budshots yet though, have to wait till September for those since I'm using all-natural lighting  I actually have 4 going but the 4th is a lot younger than the rest

The plant at the bottom of the pic and the one in the middle are White Widow and the larger one at the top is a Durban Poison

Excellent, I long for a greenhouse. Or a garden.

Got some parsley on the windowsill, lol.

My bargain £5 extension tube arrived today, totally blocks all light from the viewfinder. Didn't actually see that one coming. chuckle :)

Does anyone use the budget macro screw on lenses? Trying to figure out if they may be worth it to keep me busy while saving for the proper thing.

Or if they are just poo?
Sorry about the size of the images but still no photoshop wizardry here yet so paint jpeg mode came to the rescue :)

RYU I have tried a the cokin close up filter, but just doesn't do it for me, no idea about screw on ones.
I am trying to trade my 70/200 f4 L lens for the 100 mm macro :)

I am trying to get my head around making up my own soil mixes, have read quite a bit but still not totally sure of what to add. Worm castings, dolomite lime etc, is there a thread somewhere in here for the uk market, the organic threads all seem to cover the american market.

Nice one Dave, bring on the tric shots.

Pretty sure I gotta fumble with extension tubes for a couple months as the cam set me back but I got 10x magnification on my monitors with remote control software to control the cam. Insects beware, coming after ya :)

I dare not leave the house though as it looks daft has hell.

Yo Solis, good to see the 150w repesented what strains you got going down in your herb garden?

hey Ryu, Solis, zafira-sri, DaveMR, whats shakin'?
good to see the uk crew growing, ha ha ha.

DaveMR i'm trying out the LC's mix from Burn1's "organics for beginners" thread, in the organic soil section;

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:
5 parts Coir
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings
Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon

so this is my soiless mix and it can be used with liquid nutrients, or we can add all the food the plant needs to it, this is 2 recipies;

RECIPE #1 (all this is available down the garden centre)
If you want to use organic nutes like blood, bone and kelp...
Dry Ferts:
1 tablespoon blood meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
2 tablespoons bone meal per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
1-tablespoon kelp meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix or Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract as directed
Mix all the dry ferts into the soiless mix well and wet it, but don't soak it with water (with maybe some humic acid mixed into the water). Stir and mix it a few times a week for a week or two so the bacteria can get oxygen and break down the bone meal and make it available. And don't let the mix dry out, keep it moist and add water as needed.

RECIPE #2
If you want to use guano in your soil mix...
Bongaloid's Guano Mix.
Use all these items combined with one gallon of soil mix.
1/3C hi N Guano (Mexican Bat Guano)(you may have trouble getting a high nitrogen bat guano, try looking up caveman's bat guano, he is a u.k. based company, he even does large free samples!)
1/2C hi P Guano (Jamaican or Indonesian Bat Guano)
1TBS Kelp Meal

hope this helps,

lets increase the unity in this kingdom,

Respect to the u.k. crew! :joint:

Hey Ryu - to answer your question about those macro filters - they're not great but can do a job if you can't afford a proper macro lens. The photo above was taken with +2D macro filter/lens the screw on type - as you can see it allows you to get a lot closer to the subject but the depth of field shortens and you get a loss of clarity on the periphery.

Here's the same bud (I think...) with just my standard kit lens that came on my nikon:

I just won a macro ring flash on ebay :D Just have to get a macro lens and proper macro slide for my tripod and I'll be set, but I'll be saving a bit longer, got my eye on one of these...

Hey mate, I've seen a few of these in my soil when I water too, they come out in the run off. I've ordered some Gnat Off - I'll let you know if it kills them. (although I've only seen them once)

And I took the plunge and bought the lens above :jump:
