OD Stoli ScrewDrivers: The Blood Orange

OD Stoli ScrewDrivers: The Blood Orange

I wanted to check in. I was able to make the OD Stoli for libations. I had intended to only use lesser kind bud in my Stoli, but I had been doing Nitrous during the Stoli infusion procedure, and forgot.

So instead of putting 2 oz.'s of Nirvana Northern Lights Pure Indica in a liter of Regular Stoli (we didn't want to use flavored vodka, but a person sure could), I mistakenly used my primo best OD, and threw the Stoli back in the freezer. In the cold, I shook vigorously over several days. My "Blood Orange" screw-driver style cannabis libation:

Use a 16 oz. or 20 oz. Imperial Pint glass
Fill with clean, fresh ice
Use 2 oz.s of Orange Diesil Infused-Stoli
Use 3 oz.s (or more) of quality Orange Juice
Finish with a large splash of Reed's Raspberry Ginger Brew for a dark maroon streak

The planty, grassy, hay taste of the organic cannabis really does infuse the clean taste of the vodka. The taste is so apparant, however, that as a simple shot it really leaves something to be desired.

I have admit that I have been binging with kind smoke so I have a mega tolerance. The effect of the the infused liquor is such that one would not want to drive a car because of an enhanced bodily dizzyiness and inner ear loss of balance.

So this would be a good alcohol if one only wanted one large beverage before crashing like coming down from shrooms where one doesn't want a massive alcohol rush, but one might be decompressing and preparing for bed after the day but the mind is still turning.

This would also be good if someone was thinking about moving and breaking down their grow and needed a way to store THC/CBD's in a non-cannabis form along with canna-butter. I think for someone in a moderate-to-long term, non-smoking enviroment, a few drinks CAN give one the total effect of one six pack of Guiness drank with bong hits during the Dave and Conan late night talk shows, especially if the tolerance is low. But it becomes almost immediately apparant that the fine control the user would have over the effect between the bong hits and beer consumption is lost because vodka is no play thing to be disrespected and you have to assume effects thirty minutes to the future which can be unwieldy. This is why I suggest it with tripping/ after trip when goofy loss of balance is no big thing and the Orange Juice and Ginger revitalize the body.

1 tablespoon of Pure L-Glutamine powder and a Blueberry-based/B-vitamin infused fruit juice (like Odwalla) can be added to the Blood Orange before the Reed's Raspberry Ginger Brew at the end for an opaque purple/orange drink that is much thicker and more like a smoothy and less like a mixed drink. But that might be the very thing to have right after a work out and into a shower BEFORE tripping to smooth entry.

OD Smoke Reports

OD Smoke Reports

Some of you read my grow reports, though due to some stealth issues that still remain, some of the pics and plants got pulled.

In short, I grew out 10 of the 15 Verite Orange Diesil seeds from one of the two last packs from the first offering from Verite, therefore the seeds I grew out were in fact 13 months plus old. I got a 10 for 10 pop rate with the longest primary seed root I have ever seen from a species or strain.

Several phenos have been discussed in these posts. What I found is that after various cultivation choices and several insect/catepillar pest attacks, that I had six really strong plants and culled four and sexed the rest and of the six I had four females and of the females, I had one really fine, giant indica female. This was the breeding stock I wanted to clone because this indica female was such a vigorous grower I thought she was male, thus I was overjoyed when she was female. But we all know that just cause something looks tasty, it doesn't mean that it actually is tasty.

Also at that time I discovered that one of my three smaller females was diploid which, despite slightly slowing the growing process by two weeks which eventually caused canopy problems, was very cool because I thought that natural diploidism was only found in the male plant so I was suprised.

I have now smoked all of the four females and I and my friends are very happy. We let it go 64 days flushing from day 59, but we had fed all organic for the whole time so it was no big deal. We had given it a lot of molasses and orange juice and orange marmelade and honey over the entire life cycle to feed the micros in the roots. The last 3 days from day 61 were spent in total darkness and as much cool as possible 78 degrees f.

We found that Verite OD has a lot more raw power than Nirvana Northern Lights Pure Indica, which had been considered a happy suprise in our garden for morning business smoke for alertness and cheerful high.

Of the four females, we consider there to be 3 distinct pheno types: the giant, genetically "pure" indica; the diploid; and the other two moms were what I would call a clear hybrid pheno which was leggier, more vertical in it's side branches so the implication is an almost closed umbrella-- so more sativa.

All four were cut at the base of the plant and simply hung to dry like the guy in Mejorca whose name I forget who had a massive outside grow with plants of like 9 feet from the base then simply thrown in a shed for the next three months with door open to the sea wind before being found dry enough to be put in a ceder box. Unfortunately, I had no outdoor sea wind drying possibilities, but it turned out fine.

The buds appear fluffy due to large individual flower brac growth, but are in fact very tight so that humidity issues and rot can be an issue so no nitrogen after the 3rd week of flower. The buds are white with crystal on all the females. For those worrying about that amazing store-bought pot smell, I found the answer: Once you dry on the stem for a month, then clean and bag in baggies or zip locks and get your bag appeal presentation on and burp an hour every day or so. When you break the bag out for guests or for your first time, if you have been gentle with the trics on the plant in the bag, then don't be surprised by the hay/homegrown smell. But wrap your quarter in a roll in your hand and crush ever so gently till you here the crackle and now open the baggie and take a whiff: ooohhhhhh orange cleaning fluid skunk baby vomit and all the colors of the diaper.

The smoke takes me back to when I was first getting high as a freshman in college in 86 and we would get amazing red haired Mexican bud from the junkies in San Antonio but not know why it was good and argue it was the hairs and we had never even heard of tricomes. We each would eventually get into trouble for our smoking in the future but at that time we would smoke and go to class and eat fried food in the student cafeteria. Smoke and fried food go well together. Once we even got the security guard high.

So I would say that OD is a great all around smoke, but especially a--> suddenly understand you've been sitting on the bed you've just made looking at a dust mote in the rays of the morning sun while listening to Grant Green and now you realize the disk stopped about seven minutes ago. So if you can fathom the coolness of this comment you know the OD is out of sight.

Finally, don't spread it around too much because the boards at their most basic level always take the heat when a quiet good idea gets misused by idiots and this part of the post will be edited at least but I feel that I may have made a major discovery. Just as we know that growth rates can be increased with CO2 injection via gas burners or sugar-yeast bottles, we also know that weed picks up those tastes. Well, during this past grow my pesonal life was once again in a shambles but this time I binged on nitrous oxide instead of alcohol-- just surfed right through all the family bullshit because I chose not to be angry and stayed effectively sober but used a tremendous amount of gas in my grow room. I would say around 90 whips once a week for the six plus weeks of flower until harvest. Once it dried and cured we can taste and FEEL the nitrous in the cannabis. It makes some wild fun smoke, especially considering how good OD is by itself. So I think it should really be OD thread post readers only who have this new NO2 tech which I suggest be called ODTech. But this is really for personal stash because buying that much NO2 is expensive and in the way I used it illegal, and I am unsure how many of you would sit in your plant area interacting with the plants directly via respirating CO2 and NO2 while hitting the Whipper. Also a warning, but not what you expect, if you do that much NO2 you have to bump your B12 vitamin level a day or two before the NO2 consumption or give yourself some downtime and get some blueberry juice in you. Hit Wiki for info on how NO2 eats B12, which is good for your heart.

The marmelade and honey overtones were pronounced in the after taste of our OD smoke. If you have a confectioner who carries Green & Black's Organic Chocolate Maya Gold, you would get some idea of the flavor palate we found in our phenos, but we now consider the G&B Maya Gold an essential part of the Verite OD smoking experience just as we consider the use of Wilkin & Sons Orange Marmelade an essential part of cultivation via imparting a full orange flavor because the skin and pith of the orange is included in marmelade which tempers and rounds the biting acidity of orange juice alone. We suggest a local honey to impart local ambience to the Verite OD smoke.

Due to the number of tricomes you will get a huge amount of resin with this smoke, so maybe use a smaller bowl without water for resin/hash harvest-- even though I am not really that into what seems to be pure tar at this stage of my middle age life cycle, but it does point to the fact that unscreened it seems like there might be some waste when smoked. What if the user could silk kif screen then still get the same buzz with screened green. It's possible; it is something to be considered by other readers-- make dry shake hash before smoking to minimize resin/tar and maximize total THC consuimption by the human.

That is it for now. Sorry for the length. Enjoy. Just Great Genetics.

Afficianado - Great post, you hit the nail on the head. Funny that you mention the hay/homegrown smell, this is my 3rd run (1-2 plants per) with her, and every time, I wait, and wait, then BANG Orange Funk. No other strain I have smells so distinctly orange in flower, or HAY when drying. Once it's bout a week cured, it is KILLA! A lil bit got called orange head-knocker the other day......

I wanted to add one other technique that I have discovered in my cultivation practices. There are several threads in other places about storage and cure after harvest. What I have found with OD is that drying leads to the cure, and basically I am of the opinion that folks don't let their weed dry completely before beginning the cure.

Once we we flush and place into the cool dark for the last 72 hours of the plants life, we cut at the base of the stem and hang the whole plant upside down in a dry location.

Now usually folks want the plant to dry quickly so that they can smoke it, but if you are going to go to the time and trouble to geneticly select and clone only the best females, why not bite the bullet of horror and accept that a person will need a month minimum dry time. Hear me out:

When we cure, at least according to general consensus in the storage forums, we are waiting for the green chloroform, sugars, and starches, of the plant to turn brown and mellow the smoke. But the stealth grower tries to minimize time to smoke, so he cuts individual limbs off and all of the fan leaves, and then tries various tricks at curing, only to be disappointed.

When we found out what to do it by accident, we were amazed. We hung up the cut plants as noted, and as we had some smoke previous dried that we were working on, we left some plants hanging looking for a better cure. What we saw was that the plant itself will tell you when to jar if you simply leave it alone after you cut the plant at the base and hang it up:

First, the plant is the same green it was when you cut it but over the first 10 days it dries to where most people go to jar. But for the most part, even though it is dry, the plant is still very bright green especially on the fan leaves which still hang over the plant. Give it another 2 weeks completely left alone and uncut and unjarred. Now we see the desired tanning/browning effect beginning to spread from the top of the cola/growing tip of the plant back towards the base, which seems counter intuitive. Now add two more weeks (we're at around 5 1/2 weeks drying on the wall), what we found was that even after almost six weeks, only half of the plant -- the top half-- is anywhere near cured, but as time progresses the cure moves ever closer to the base of the plant because that is where the last water is stored in the thickest base of the stem.

Once all of the large fan leaves have turned dusty dry and tan/brown like mummy fingers, then the large plant is ready to be cleaned and bagged or jarred. With the dry plant, trimming becomes an easy, quick job because there is no need to gum up the scissors while the plant is quite wet. Now that it is dry, simply snap or snip the dry stem of the fan leaves as close to the base of the main stem as possible. For the tiny individual fan leaves amidst the main colas which have a large amount of trics on them, but take away from photo and bag appeal, simply gently break off until the satisfactory visual result is achived.

For those of you who say, "Well, if my smoke isn't almost wet and hard to light than it isn't the dank, and if it isn't the dank than it ain't worth smoking..." consider the fact that we've reported mega-tricomes to where this could be consided a white strain. So the greasy, base-like wetness you get when you break the bud is still there, and we don't feel like the moisture is missed in any way, and the dry bud is especially great in the vaporizer where the extra dry seems to increase THC/CBD uptake into the lungs by as much as 300%-- no kidding! The drier the smoke in the vapo's, the better the hit, for those of us with the chronics.

Obviously I love to write, and I have waited some seven months from seed delivery, through sexing and selection, to harvest and into drying and curing, so it is exciting to see that smoke reports correspond to the visual appeal displayed by Verite and others pics.

My goal now is to get a situation together where I can harvest some 10 or 12 whole plants, hang them to dry appropriately, and then into jars for some 10 or 15 years, so that as an extreme senior, I can walk down into the cellar and grab a unique bud as big as my thumb of the best smoke on the planet.

Finally, we have been working on keeping our genetic lines from crossing biologically in our garden. We've deliberately never had a male to flower in the garden, so keeping strains separate has not been much of problem. And even though we all want the strongest strain, we've found that a blend of 2 or more weak cannabisses can surpass the high of a single strong cannabis, especially where there has been a tolerance developed to the strong cannabis. So we decided to keep our line of Nirvana Northern lights Pure Indica along with the OD. Many strains have not made cut including South African Durban Poison. So now we will be growing out the last 5 OD seeds in search of a male, and a lot of skunk #1 seeds which I feel is a lesser, though historic strain. So I don't want male skunks pollunating my precious hand-selected OD indicas-- only male ODs. So we have to see.

Good Day.

Yeah, I agree that the dry is way overlooked in the whole process. Funny, because it is the easiest thing to do. Do nothing. Same as the 1st rule of management. I usually pull the fans and non-hash making leaves as soon as I cut (I usually cut within 1st 10-15 min of lights on, letting the plant go bone dry beforehand). I hang in the grow room (more humid, windy) away from the light for 2-3 days. I like to trim while the plant is still wet, just preference. I hang back in the grow room for another 2-3 days, then to a 'dry room' with low humidity for 2-3 days. Usually the herb is bone dry about a week after harvest. I jar it bone dry (think 'dust'), and check it the 1st few days as it sweats a lil back from the stems. If the herb is still a lil dry 2-3 days after it goes in the jar, it is perfect. I leave it jarred a month or so for my head smoke, and everything other than the OD (HAS TO sit another week) is ready to go out at that point. If the herb refuses to stay dry in the jar, that means that I put it in too wet, and it comes out for a few days @ ambient humidity.

Cured weed rocks, but most jars aren't 100% airtight, and some of my buds will dry out too much over time. I simply put small (2-3") sections of semi-wet stems in the jars for an hour or so at a time. The quicker way is to just drop a fan or 2 in the jar, but IMO, this adds a lil chlorophyll taste, which the cure is intended to remove.

The times that I have rushed the dry (we ALL have at times..) were because I was out of smoke; wanted to try a new/diff strain; or wanted to harvest seeds. The last 2 are not good reasons, the 1st one is understandable.....

Zowie guys, thanks for all the detailed reports. CT those buds are insane. I thought I got decent bud to leaf ratios but those pics are gonzo man. Makes me realize I need to work this one sooner than expected as well as test the handful of crosses I have already done with it. Some serious potential for a uniquely nice grow/smoke experience.

3/4 Oz Dry Single Cola

3/4 Oz Dry Single Cola

Howdy folks
I realized there have been no good pics of harvest from me, now that it is almost completely smoked. Here is the 3/4 Oz Dry Single Cola harvested from the really good indica female from which we took so many clones that we can't shut up about. When we took clones we did not top, so we could get an idea what might be best for sea of green and what had the most squat and broad single cola indica characteristics. The dried cola is about 2/5ths of the length of the entire dried plant.

This dried with fan leaves on, which protected the buds and tricomes from dust. When you want popcorn bud, you remove a fan leaf and then a tiny bud.

:biglaugh: I remember way back when, when I puked from smoking too much potent weed... :bashhead:

Of course I will give each pheno a thorough and fair smoke test to see if they will make the cut for the 2nd round of testing. :rasta:

My favorite overall so far is pheno "E". If the smoke is good, she will get a (semi) permanent place in the stable.

If "C" is not the best smoke, she'll get the boot! :asskick:

Yeah, I remember puking, falling asleep EVERY TIME lol. One time was crawling up the stairs, and fell asleep. For 8 hours lol. Now, it's "Wow, this hash is tasty...not too strong though..." The 1st time I hotboxed a car, I thought I was going to die from suffocation, no lie.

I grew Orange Diesel for the first time late 2007 and damn she was a beauty. (And ive still got 14 beans left!) :)

I grew her under a single 600w HPS so nothing particularly special in my setup, just special genetics.

I havent had a chance to grow her since but she's high up on my priority list

Here she is again, also another pic with a closeup of her crown cola. As you can see she's 95% bud to 5% leaf lol - very easy to manicure at harvest.
