Blueberry x Afghani 1K Trees

I have just begun my third grow (second documented here). These were gifted seeds and are a cross between DJ Short Blueberry and Sensi Afghani.

There are 11 plants that are 5 1/2 weeks from seed and have been vegged under 100 watts of CFL. I moved them into the modified waterfarm system today under a 1K Metal Halide in aircooled Silver Star hood. I will be vegging for about 3-4 more weeks under the MH, until they are between 20-24 inches. That will make some nice 5-6 foot trees.

I will switch to a 1K Hortilux HPS when flowering and add 200-300 watts of side and under lighting as the grow progresses.

I grow in a closet that is 4x5x8. I made lots of modifications to the closet over the last week, including bringing AC in from central unit, adding a 1/10 HP chiller and better circulation. I will post additional information about the room, but here is a diagram:

I will be using GH Flora 3 Part (Not Lucas), Diamond Nectar, Floralious Bloom, Liquid KoolBloom and Powder KoolBloom. I have had smashing success with this lineup - so I am not going to change a thing.

Here is the feed schedule that I will be using throughout my grow. The PH (Up and Down are tentative as I will measure these as I mix each week's solution:

They are not trees yet, but give them a litle time and they will be monsters.

I will be posting photos shortly.

place looks good WFF, is that aluminum foil on your walls tho? and are thoes clear lines your feedlines? if they are for the feed i suggest you change them to black lines or cover them good cause that will cause some algae to grow

Hey Asher1er.

The walls are lined with mylar. It was recycled from my first grow a few years ago - so it is a little crinkled. It did not seem to make any difference on my last grow so I will keep it up for now.

The clear lines bring air to run the drip system. So no worries about algea growth.

Thanks for the comments. Keep them coming!!!

how do you like the 1/10hp chiller for your setup? some seem to think a need to use a 1/4hp chiller for as many buckets. can you post a pic of the reservoir, chiller and controllers. setup looks fantastic

Green Force - I will have to check out the poly next time I redo the room. It looks like it is easy to clean and maintain.

Old Path - Thanks for your comments and stopping by.

Harry - The chiller has been ordered, but it has not arrived yet. I will keep about 25 gallons in the system - so I thought the 1/10 would do the trick.

Update

The plants have been in the waterfarms for 6 days now and they have really adapted well. I started with rapid rooters in a tray (1 1/2 weeks) and then soil (4 weeks) before being moving the waterfarms. I was careful to clean the soil and place the roots in the hydroton.

I am going to veg for another 3 weeks so I can get some trees going in there!!! That would be 9 weeks from seed before switching to 12/12.

I will post some update photos in a few days. There is alot of new growth going on!!! Stay tuned...

waterfarm: funny i also have clones in at 6 day old now, someone told me to run the thing 24/7 from strart, so i will, also, there is an enzyme called messneger, it is a steriod that does incredible things to plants, you should check with your local hyrdo shop and get some of dat. and spray em. anyway, im glad to see your taking the waterfarm route as i am. i got 13 ozes from 5 plants on my last run w/ wf. this time I will run : mental floss and g13x buttesctch hawain. WIll om you with my pics. thanks for your pm reply .

"I got Blueberry Afghani com 'a holla' wassup..."

Your theme song should be "Blueberry Afghani" by The Cataracs

AND, you are doing the WF's! I got great results from 2 WF's under a 400W HPS (.39g/w)

Check my sig...

looks great wff! did you have to change out your containers in previous grows? or did you just clean them out every week or so? a buddy of mine told me that i had to clean out my wf containers w/ a wet/dry vac every week or so.

Harry - I have not yet received the chiller yet, but here are a few pics of the other closet. A 250 GPH water pump is in the 12 gallon return tub, and it pumps back to the top rez. The chiller will go between the return tub and top rez when it arrives. There is also an overflow line from the top rez back to the return bucket.

Here is a shot of the back. There are 3 lines from the controller and 3 seperate lines to the return tub.

LighterFuel - Thanks for stopping by and checking out the thread. If you like trees, stay tuned...

Tintala - No problem on the PM. Good luck on the clones. The bigger they are before they go in the buckets the better.

Krusty - Hey man. I checked that song out on Youtube - pretty trippy. I guess I could a theme song for my grow!!! :rasta:

Dubwise - I do have a drop in pump that can be used to drain an individual waterfarm unit, but I seldom use it. My current system has very good circulation - so this helps.

However, throughout the course of a grow sediment will form on the bottom of the buckets, especially if you use organic additives such as Floralicious.

I grow trees in a 8 foot closet - so after some flowering I often can not lift the buckets due to height limitations. I have seen no ill effect from leaving this sediment on the bottom on the waterfarms units.

Hope this helps.

I thought I would post an update.

The plants are beginning to show sex. I have 5 definate girls, 3 probable boys and 3 that have not showed yet.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for 8 girls (that is how many buckets I have), but I would be happy with 6 or 7. If it is less, I will remove a couple buckets.

All in all good news. :headbange
