What's new

4 week Trainwreck looking small??

thank you VERY much....miracle organic soil in on sale right now at one of the major retail stores and there's a nursery near my house, though I dont speak spanish and most of the places here kinda ignore you if you don't, but I think I can gather enough spanish to maybe buy soil "hola, yo necessito comprar...umm...soil"....I have like 10 pounds of worm castings left...if I can't find decent soil today then I'll buy the mg organic and pick up some perlite....so 30% worm castings, 30% perlite, 40% mg organic?...I do have a moisture and ph meter...the ph was a little wacky when they were tiny seedlings, but I tried to fix that as soon as possible and they seemed fine after changing the water source

where can I find pro-mix? Home depot or Lowes?
If you have an Agway, they have it.Yeh,just put them in straight Pro-Mix when they are seeds, cuz the mix was prob hot enough to stunt them but not kill em.If ya transplant, you should be ok.I also like a ton of perlite in my PM when doing seeds/clones and nothing else.Good luck.Peace and stay safe,DancesWithWeed

I tryed some of the MG Organic soil for a plant im gettin ready to throw outside(they have it at CVS).I just thought it would have some food for the plant over the months ,cuz ill take a plant and throw it outside when i go fishin and just set it and forget it :rasta: ,lol,it.But i had this plant Veggin in a 5 gal grow bag and had to transplant into a bigger homemade 8 gal container cuz the roots went crazy and were bound like mad.Its gonna be a monster, like 3 1/2 feet already with multi tops :headbange .I dont know if ill use the MG Organic indoors but,ill mix it in for my OD girls(not old dirty girls, lol) if they take off like this. :joint: ///Peace and stay safe,DancesWithWeed

Never heard of an Agway...I forgot to mention that I had an issue with lights like 2 days after they sprouted so they where vegging under my LEDs while I fixed the problem...then they were under 4 panels of LED and two 150 cfl (along with 4 other plants)...I needed to flower the other four plants which do 12/12 with the LED and the 2 150w cfl and so I built a box for the four TW plants with one 150w cfl...I've given them worm tea( SO many worm castings...ordered too much by accident) and some of cheapo fert. that I had laying around.

that's the entire history of my Trainwreck babies...which are actually yellowing at the tips today, turns out :(

OK, so I'm back from shopping and on my trip I got:

MG organic soil
perlite
peat moss
fox farm tiger bloom
fox farm grow big

hopefully some combo of those products will save my babies

Take it slow

Take it slow

As young as these plant are their not gonna need much in the way of nutes, so go slow. Let them dry out and flush the crap out of em, if the tips are startin ta burn ....Yes I would mix 30% castings and perlite and 40% soil. The great thing about organics is once ya get it going it's like having an extra safegaurd right in yer soil. It buffers yer plants against ph swings, heat, diseases and it also allows yer plants ta feed on lager ions of micro nutes that they otherwise couldn't. Things like mag, cal, and iron and many others too. Ahh well, I could ramble on all day about the benifits of organics, but I'll spare ya. lol... I see ya got pete moss too. I wouldn't add any to yer mix. Pete is has a low ph and without somethin ta buffer it right away like lime it's jus gonna add insult to injury. I would jus mix the castings, perlite and soil, and mix alil worm tea, apply it to the mix and let it sit untill yer ready to transplant. Yer plants will take right off when the time comes. My 2 cents. Good luck! later, BC

oops...ok, so I got alittle excited and added the peat moss too...not much for my trainwreck plants, but more for my other plants...grr...bad info from the guy at the gardening store...I'll just keep a close eye on them, live and learn.

your Trainwrecks look really good...I'm hoping mine pull through

They are stretched looking for light!
You need better light, IMO...
Nothing wrong with Miracle Grow, but not for seedlings. You need seed starter mix for that. I had a similar problem. When I put them in seed starter mix (Miracle Grow), and put them under a big halide, they took off.

you dont think one 150 cfl is enough for four small plants? I'm working on a more light proof veg box, I kinda threw this one together in the case of an emergency...I've got cabinets built into the walls of my apartment and I'm thinking about using that, just need to figure out co2 and vent.

also, I started them in those little expandy peat pellets

im sorry but i guess im gonna have to come under fire but the 150 cfl is more than enough light (more than that for 4 plants, less than a foot/ less than three nodes?!?!?! c'mon)

its ok that you added the peat moss already, if you can hold off on transplanting, get some garden lime and mix that in there, its sold at homedepot /garden section/ESPOMA is the brand name, that will take care of your pH issues to a degree.

if anything remember to bubble your water (to get rid of chlorine) and check the pH of it (whether its tap or bottled), since you may have to add some vinegar to bring it down (remember no matter what anyone says, you dont know who lives near you and who doesn't so just because some one says "THIER" water is fine does not mean its going to be the same for you. always check and make sure of things for yourself!!)

DONT FORGET YOUR MOLASSES!!!!

edit: Q- how close are/is the light to your plants? i dont remember anyone asking or you tellin'.

Is it an equivalent to 150 watt light? If so, I don't think that is nearly enough lighting, I have around 14k Lumens of CFLs (3 13w, 2 23w), and I still wish I could fit more in.

i think that people are more concerned with the fact that the lighting may not be enough for the space, but what zombiegirl is asking is , wouldnt that be enough for just four plants?

ok i agree that IF you had 150 watt cfl to illuminate a large area with just 4 plants in it, then the size of the area does come into play if its big enough

ie- 4 x plants in a 4'x2'x6' with the light being around 6" away from the top, your gonna lose the light from the sides BUT if you have 4 plants in a 1.5'x1.5'x6' then you would not lose any light from the sides especially if you used reflection other than white paint
