Check out the Gold Prospectors Association of America Good info but much of it you have to pay for but they can direct you too Maps of your area, Old Mines and Old Prospects can still yield some. Streams in the Yukon still deposit gold flecks and small nuggets, like Pop says get a sluice Talk to others in your area, Old timers and such get maps.
One neat trick is when do find a spot with Gold Dust you can fill 5 gallon buckets with as much as you can haul... and backyard sluice in relative comfort.

Thought about doing this for quite some time, as I live in the mountains myself and have access to creeks and branches that may not have ever been panned considering the history of the property. May get around to doing it yet, you never know. Sounds like a great way to spend the day, especially if theres actually gold in them there hills!

its a serendipity thing that only those who seek will find..and fuck all that hi tech billion dollar shit...lol if you got it you got it...a billion dollars worth of equipment probly wont bring eureka but serendipity will... :rasta:

drgreenbuds seemed to know his stuff about gold mining. he showed some sweet pictures and said he had a claim in arizona. arizona really seemed like a good place to start, considering only 15% is privately owned.

sup guys-nokuy- ive worked in the mines back home, well, actually worked for the geology companies that find the mines. during those years i worked with an oldtimer who had a claim on the goodpasture-he did everything the old school way, and its a way of life i think you would enjoy! theres money to be made, but its the experience of doing it like that that makes you rich!!!(im really high today) though his payday was when we bought his claim from him to use as a base camp(millions). all those mining geologists begged me to buy gold with my salary, but im like the microsoft employee that took the 200 dollar christmas bonus instead of the stock options!!!!!

the mine was the pogo project-turned into the largest gold mine in north american history-and theres thousands of square miles out there -all of it with gold-everywhere-getting it out is the problem-its so remote- but claims are still available all over the area.

ill get a small suction dredge and ill use it when ever and wherever i want....thats my style....i dont play by the rules all that well, and the penalties dont amount to more than trespass violations if caught.

plus most the work isnt done at the dredge site its done at home while gettin high...the dredge stuff is just the dirty work.

I used to live in an old gold mining/panning area...as kids we used to pan for gold..it was under $30 an ounce back then I think...but a nice house only cost $15,000 then...now gold is pushing $900 and a decent house costs $500K or $700K +

suction dredge

how bad is this method for the environment?...is that why it's banned?

Central City and Blackhawk Colorado were billed as the richest square mile on earth in the early mining days, now the gold is all in the casinos.

I found it interesting, when they were building the new casinos and cutting the mountain back, there was no interest in the minerals possibly uncovered.

We had family mines in the area - grandma said the mountains are full of faults - you can have a good vein of gold (smaller than a pencil lead) and it will suddenly disapear. She didn't seem too impressed with mining. Grandad died of several lung ailments related to mining, sometime before I was born.

Remember too,, during the boom days - things like an egg sold for $20. Wiskey and the Ladies usually made more than the miners.

All that glitters is not gold.

Looks easy, but looks can be decieving.

wow! i am really surprized at the interest to this topic here...maybe i shouldent be so surprised...we are an ingenious lot who push the envelope all we can.

the q? that chamba posted about the suction dredge is a good one...and i honestly dont know how bad it is for the enviroment....or why its not legal in some areas

but i will be researching it today and i will post my findings.

like i said i have been around peeps who use one daily, and they do i guess tear up some river bottom, but i dont think they damage the envioment.

suction dredges are easy to use and u need some dive gear, ....youll do ALOT better w/ one than w/out one....and if u know what your doing and where your going u could easily quit yer day job.

this is a suction dredge:

ignore the girls ass ...lol...this is what a small suction dredge looks like on the water:

showing_nephew.jpg

basicly u gotta vaccum the bottom of the river w/ it ....it'll retain the gold, and when u get home u can pan it.

when i did this i didnt have a dredge like these i had a shovel, and would scoop it into my homemade sluicebox......same scenario tho.
