Hydro Guy Does Dirt

SuperLarry - I'm currently using Fox Farms complete line, Cal/Mag, Hygrozyme in both hydro and dirt. I have really enjoyed it...especially in dirt. However, now that I have these 160 gal reservoirs to maintain for hydro I will be switching back to the Lucas formula plus hygrozyme. I will keep running FF for my dirt plants mostly because I have quite a bit left. I had been livin in a hole running GH for years with great success but when I decided to participate in a couple online forums I convinced myself that I needed to be running a "boutique" nutrient line so I jumped into Fox Farm....it has worked great for the last 18 months or so but I was reading some of my old personal grow logs and I forgot how much less work running lucas was

yamaha - thanks again for pulling my head out...I took it down not only because it was inaccurate but because it is time for a new one. I love quotes from our founding fathers...the people running the government today should perhaps read some of the thoughts that the originators had about the way a democracy should be run...and NOT run

Felix, I'm sorry to hear about your D39 being male. I too am not having the best luck with male/female ratio this run. I keep telling myself that it has nothing to do with my first complete run in dirt...however, due to my relative inexperience in dirt I believe that I left several of my seedlings wanting a bit more nitrogen. This lower than usual level of nitrigen at this critical stage must have helped push any seedlings that were still undecided on sex toward the male side of things. I was reading several posts on this site about FFOF being too hot even with a perilite cut so I didn't feed at all until they went to 1gal pots...when running hygrozyme, the root develpment was so fast and robust that the plants could have used their first shot of nutes before they left the Dixie cups...oh well, that's why I start whole packs of beans and not just 1 or 2...even when I mess up I usually still get a female or 2

well, I had to move a few things around so I figured a couple pics wouldn't hurt.

bagseed that will get the chop tonight

D39 @22days - completely unphased by my vortex mishap

Golden pineapple @36days - ruby red deliciousness from JLP

stoney and yamaha thanks for stickin with me. First off, my computer took a shit so I don't know exactly where some plants are in flower as far as number of days, so from now on I'll be ball parking it.

Hashberry 3 weeks or so - pretty much like mandala says...easy as hell to grow. I just realized I have fed the last 3 times I watered and she shows very little sign of probs.

D39 4 weeks or so - and absolute beast, she has been burned by the light, startved of water (3' plant in a 3gal pot of dirt she needs to be watered all the time), of course the vortex incident...none of it has phased her, still just healthy as hell and frosty as hell

Golden Pineapple 50 - 55 days- mostly cloudy trichs (she's got a bit yet), grapefruit smell is still there but has a skunky undertone and everything is fattening up nicely

Lemon Stinky 4 weeks or so - I have 4 of these going 3 are LST and one is just topped, these have been a bit of a struggle so far. Although they are a very vigorous plant, they have also proven to be quite prone to disease. In my case powdery mildew...I havn't had this stuff in years!! I'm not the cleanest person in the world but I keep a fairly clean space. I like to keep my room at about 60 or so at night with low humidity <30%...well the stinkys don't like the cold so I have raised night temps to 70 with no change in humidity and things seem to have slowed. I've been meaning to get a sulfur vaporizer anyways, so a field trip to the hydro store is in order

Sorry to hear about the computer. I keep my grow logs on paper, on an excel sheet I made. I have one for each table. I didnt write anything down for almost a month and had to back track to figure out all my start dates, clone dates etc.

All looks good

I dont see any recent pics of the PP. Are they all chopped?

felix - you and me both, I can't wait. I'll make sure to do a smoke report.

stoney - I like the way you think

yamaha - the 2 powerplants that I had in dirt came down the day those last pics were taken, I also have a full 4 x 8 of 2 week olds also shown in a previous post. I will perhaps show some limited updates of tables in late flower, but this log will continue to focus primarily on new strains that I start in dirt.

Here is some dried powerplant - 2 plants veged 10 days, topped once, LST the day I put them into flower in 3 gallon pots, flowered 8 weeks....8.86 ounces!!!

Potent up sativa high with a light floral aroma, very pleasant smoke

That bagseed that I had going - 53 grams dried from a 2 gallon bonsai
despite its indica growth style, I find this smoke to have a very racy effect on me, heavy citrus/skunk aroma, more of a light inscence flavor...to be honest I'm not a fan, thats why the genes died at harvest

Suckerpunch 61 grams from a 3 gallon topped once - this stuff is like the name...a punch straight to the brain. Fantastic for pain, sleep, appetite. aroma is heavy skunk/dank, actually commical how a small bud left in ones jacket pocket by accident garnered so many stares at the grocery store that I had to leave. Hashy flavor with slight sweet undertones, this weed is harsh no matter ho long the cure...what do you expect, it's litterally drenched in trichomes!!

stoney - let's just say that she likes to reward your efforts :rasta: To date this is the largest yielding strain that I have had the pleasure of working with. In the capable hands of someone with your skills, I have seen 2 phenos that will average 30+ grams per plant in this setup. Those 2 dirt plants put out those numbers despite a nearly continuous MG deficiency.

is it pretty stoney and i can't remenber if you psted a link where you ordered them if could you post one i think no i know lol... this is what me and my room needs thank you Albert Hofman

It's a strong sativa high...in the proper dosage it's get shit done weed...smoke too much and you will still have the will to get stuff done but you may find yourself walking in circles  I first experienced powerplant at a shady little coffeeshop in Rotterdam, it was my favorite weed of the trip, but the dealer at the shop was no help. When I got to Amsterdam I did a little checking and decided that what I had was more than likely from Dutch Passions genetic pool. So, 2 packs came back the hard way...man, those flights are long. I grew out those packs in the hopes of finding the closest representation of what I had originally tried...2 phenos showed 1 shorter and capable of massive single fat dense colas, with a nice high. The 2nd stretches quite a bit...4" clones finish in the 18" range, produes less dense buds but gives you a lot of it and is very potent (I only have pics of the 2nd). I am currently running both but may narrow it down to the 2nd only. Anyway, now that my ramble is over, the answer to your question is Dutch Passion and Seedbay. Last time I looked they had both Fem and regular. Nirvana also has a PPP (pure power plant) that definately has some fans out there, I have a pack of those but have not tried them yet.

Very cool Al. How is the yield with this method of SOG? They are very tasty looking. As far as a ratio like 1 or 2 lbs a 1000W, I'd be curious to hear how you do with that. It sure looks sweet.

Well, I guess no update pics for now....Things are moving along fairly well but there have been a few bumps in the road. First the Lemon Stinky (day 40 flower) have been battling PM and are showing the signs of a fairly bad infestation...the new sulfur vap has put a stop to that now. This strain is not great for LST due to its complete lack of stretch and and ability to form massive colas. This has resulted in my 4 stinkies kind of overgrowing themselves and making airflow a problem withing the plant structure. 1 of the 4 stinkies looks to be about a 5-6 ounce plant in 3 gallons of dirt!!...assuming the PM doesn't destroy them before they are done.
The D39 (day 40) is huge and is showing signs of being root bound in its 3 gallon pot. Very frosty, nice smell but not overpowering, looks like it will be a great yielder. I also have 1 of these in my SOG as a test to see how she does. Node spacing is not as tight as I would like compared to the powerplant. Almost unbelievably it has out stretched my pp and with a little pruning at flower transplant it has grown straight up with no side branching.

Hashberry (day 32) this thing looks like it will produce some bats! Also showing signs of not liking the 3 gallons pot anymore. Trichome production to this point is fairly lackluster and leaf size look to make this less than ideal for my style of SOG...we shall see.

Golden Pineapple (day 58) this plant is close to being done...probably less than a week till chop. Grapefruit smell is more of an undertone now with predominant smell being skunky/musty. Buds are rock hard...this plant shows long term promise.

Stoney - nice collection of beans!! I think we might have a different definition of "the hard way". With my method those breeder packs would really hurt :spank: if catch my drift. As far as dirt goes, I don't know if easier is the right word. In fact, I'm currently running some strains that have proven to be a slight challenge. I do however like the versatility that I gives and of course the knowledge gained. The other nice thing about having a couple dirt plants around is that it allows me to grow some nice strains that don't work in my SOG. I have a couple friends that are med users and I try to keep them supplied with whatever their preferred meds are...

Oilmeister - thanks for stoppin in...the SOG method works well, with the right strains and conditions you can get above an ounce a plant.

felix - thanks for hangin around
