Hey bro. I wanted big plants, but they streched way more than I expected. Mine are sativa (Strawberry Haze) so they are going to be taller. I vegged them under a 1k MH for 4 weeks before switching to 12/12.

I would suggest a shorter veg cycle to keep the height down. It also has to do with the strain. I did lots of tie down and some supercropping by gently breaking the stems and my canopy is still 5 1/2 feet. It would be 7 feet if I did not do these.

Are you running any airstones in buckets? This is a great mod that really helps to airate the nutes. Keep up the good work.

I do want to use air stones, but I'd have to somehow get another 1/4 tube in there with a dual pump, I'm not sure how I'm going to go by doing this.

Oh and mine is a well known sativa as well it's Kali Mist so I suppose it wont be as bushy and it will be pretty tall as well, just like yours.

Also how did you do your tying town? Tied the tip sideways to make the plant curve and then switch sides? This is how I saw it on a grow faq.

You can squeeze an air line down the shaft with the drip mechinism. It is tight, but you can do it.

As to the tie down, you are refering to LSTing. As you described, this is bending the plant in a circular pattern. I did not do this. I tied down the side branches to the wall (staples). I also broke (gently) the main stem about a foot from the top and angled it to grow sideways. The plants actually respond very well to the breaking as they grow a big knot and the stems get bigger to repair the damange. Do not do this after the third week of flowering.

How much vertical space do you have? If space is becoming an issue, you could always top your plants. I could not bring myself to cut the tops off my plants, so I let the tallest plants grow past the edge of the light. I am adding a few more hundred watts of CFLs to get these some light.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions.

I have 6ft max of upwards space, I started flowering when they were 12 and 10" respectively 3 weeks after I received them as clones. The clones said 9-10 weeks of flowering time on their stickers. Also said tall plant may require training. So I dunno I suppose they will go past 6 ft in 9-10 weeks? This kinda worries me now.

They are at 18" now with 1.5weeks flowering time.

You should be fine with your space. I think that I read that plants will stretch 3-4 times the height when they are switched to 12/12. This would put you around 4 feet.

I just bought 2 7" clip on fans to put on either end of the light so I can blow the heat off and keep it lower, this should also help keep them short. I'm excited I want to see a lot more hairs on the buds already, it feels like forever!

Sounds good man. Also, I read that keeping humidity down during the strech period will reduce plant height as well.

I understand about wanting to see more white hairs, but one day you will say "Damm" and the buds will be huge. Keep pluging away and you will be there in no time.

I also was told the other day that plants gain up to 50-150% of their height and weight in the flwr cycle as well...

Get a double outlet air pump from walmart ($10). That way you can run one line to the ring and you can drill a small hole into the waterfarm and run a line into the resevoir for extra oxygen. This is a simple way to significantly increase the oxygen levels available to your plant.

Bugs :( Woke up this morning and saw a little brown/greenish looking guy fly off my plant *very very tiny barely visible*, he flew off and was so tiny I couldn't really make out where it went! What's the best thing to do against bug issues? Get some sticky fly traps or spray?

Btw what sort of problem is this? Could this be bug related? It's only affected the 3 biggest fan leaves.

This is what they look like as a whole at 2.5 weeks flowering. They're a bit over 2ft tall.

Hey skewb. Looking good. I would not worry and the bug as it probably an isolated incedent as you are growing hyrdo. Soil growers have a lot more pest problems.

How close is your light? What nutes and amount? What ph are you running? Did you add an airstone to each res? - It will really help build plant mass.

400w hps at 12" away
nutes:

ppm about 1k

gro-7.5ml
bloom-12.5ml
micro-7.5ml
diamond-10ml
floraliciousgrow-2.5ml
floraliciousbloom-2.5ml

per gal

pH 6.0

Airstones 30" per bucket added :)

I heard it could be light burn from when I used to spray them with water, light might have been focused and burned the plant, either that or back in the day when I overnuted. It could also be that these leaves are the ones right under the new growth of the bud and the nutrients are getting used up by the new buds?

I also setup some sticky fly traps, but I have not even seen 1 since.

I would not say so. I stop using the dripper after a few weeks of flowering and only use the airstones. This turns the system into a DWC, which I recirculate, and allows the roots to grow in the bottom buckets instead of the top portion.

First the good news, here are some new bud shots :) the plant that got hurt somehow is making larger buds.

#2

#1

And now the bad news, I captured one of the bugs I saw in the morning, here it is, can anyone identify it? It is like at most 2 millimiters big. It may seem big but the shot is extremely zoomed in and like I said they are about the size of a comma ,. I assume it's some sort of aphid and I'm going to buy some lady bugs on top of the sticky traps. I'm pretty sure I saw 1 when I got the clones new, so it's not my fault whoever had the mother plant was infected before me :(

so when you buy a new car do you turn it into a 4x4...i love the waterfarms...they rock...when used properely pump out 6-8 oz per plant...dont try to fix a perfect system is my humble opinion...just learn how to use it...peace...the only mod that is good is drilling bigger holes for drainage and roots...believe me when i say i am very experienced with the waterfarms and the system is almost perfect rite off the shelf

Sick of algae! I made some garbage back squares 10x10" w/ diagonal slit and I fit it on top of the waterfarms. Seems to be blocking out the light causing the algae. 4 more days until week 4 starts :p
