Tom Hill Haze

From what I have heard directly from his mouth either here, in podcasts, or on IG was that he tests seeds every few years and when the germ rate gets under like 60% he does a reproduction run. Again back to this idea that the less you do to a line the less opportunity there is to fuck it up. The idea being that if you don't need to do a repro run to maintain viability there's less chance of shifting the genetics with another generation. His number of plants was complicated by a winter storm causing one of his hoop houses to collapse. Mendo got slammed by some freak storms. This limited the number of seed packs he could offer. One of the things Tom and I see eye to eye on is that the prices on seed are disgusting, and I have a lot of respect for the price point and pack size he is offering.

I don't personally put Haze up on a pedestal, a lot of people have spent a lot of time analyzing it to no concrete answer, and at the end of the day it doesn't matter to me. I think this seed run is a wonderful opportunity for growers to exponentially expand Tom's Haze and ensure it's kept going. We crowdsource our genetics as a community whether we realize it or not.

Excellent point, and one reason why I scorned the ramp up of a handful of seedbanks back in the days with all the sudden pollen chuckers and 100's of seedbanks you have now. You really don't know what you're getting cause there is no regulation agency defining variety DNA profiles and such.

I graft/produce avocados, those sourced from SoCal and with avocados (and I assume with most/all of plant material) you can get a genetic breakdown on origin based on the 3 avocado races. Each race, or origin is pretty well defined with certain characteristics. No so with cannabis, just the usual %sativa/%indica mix with the mutts.

Folks like Ace provide some pretty comprehensive info regarding their strains, at least the IBL's, landrace hybrids.

Then when the seeds cost a lot more cos of the certification needs …. I prefer the old ways myself, seeds are already expensive as it is

Back in the day before the internet was more widespread Tom's stuff was my White Whale/Grail stuff. I laughed when he mentioned in a podcast that the Pine Tar Kush was just kinda piney and kinda tarry and he thought the name was cool. So many of us built up these legends in our heads when the seeds couldn't be found. Anything in my seed collection I attempt to source as many people's savings as I can. I still have X18 and DC as well as DC x Peyote Purple from multiple lines including the Raco and Kwik ascensions. The DC x PP has proven to be a great way to outcross two IBLs that don't go much further when you incross.
Is an ascension something that gets you high hehe?

I think you mean accession (something that has been acquired), not ascension (the process of moving upward). Though reproduction would have been more appropriate in this case.

Don't mean to be a dick. But the tiger can't change it's stripes I guess hehe. And hey lets not let incorrect use of terminology spread. Soon everyone will mix up the two otherwise..

What? I'm sorry but that is not how it works, at all. Take your "gubment = higher cost" fallacy elsewhere. The entire world functions on documentation like this, and has since the 18th century. The "old ways"? What old ways are those?? Seeds are expensive because of greed, and because the price point got normalized that high from when ounces moved for hundreds of dollars. Not because we have legislation that keeps invasive species out or regulates trade.

He means a seed increase/ reproduction

nah we have the best sense of humour....its the young guys who have a stick up their ass. [jk]

lets just please cut out all this “certification”talk..

when has involving "the gov" ANY where ever worked out well for the common or even uncommon man?
I dunno man, maybe on the internet that you're using to communicate that ignorant thought? The roads you drive on, the fire departments we use, the police departments we use, public education. The entire USDA seed program that sent people around the world to collect seeds and who built the backbone of the US corn and soy industries? There's an endless list, but it doesn't jive with your ridiculous insecure snowflake attitude.

If you think agricultural certificates are some ridiculous government overreach you're ignorant of the world you actually live in.

Are people really bothered by Tom enough to get the dude banned? Lol....its not that serious, at least I don't take Tom's "rage" to heart...Lol. The again, I'm 30 y.o. and havent been on the forums for decades like others. Dude's kidding, folks. He may come off as a dick, but...seriously? Maybe old heads take things differently.

Regardless, haze is great flower, we can all agree.

It's not the old heads that have issues with what TH posts. Old fuckers like myself don't care and ignore the rants easily. Ive been here a long time and it's obvious most people have changed. It sure isn't about being kind anymore. The cancel future is in full effect. People base friendships on who you follow on IG lol. People's feelings get in their way when someone does something they don't like.

Glad he is gone if even for a short time. He is on other boards and it’s always the same asshole thing. I have always been amazed how people seem to think he is beyond acting like a decent not mentally ill nut and give him a pass. I’d rather drink a buttlight at target than read his tripe and I’d throw his seeds in the trash on general principles.
