I didnt even know BSHW was a pure sativa until VTman released it, i had always thought it was a hybrid. I know i hope to get those beautiful purple colas everyone else has posted
The story I know is that Big Sur Holy Weed was a hybrid of a Zacatecas Purple Sativa brought back from a missionary in Zacateca Mexico to California where Monk Perry crossed her to a Afghani Indica in the seventies? And has become kept as a {IBL} or stable in bred line, by just a dedicated few, now myself.
When I cross BSHW with my Oaxacan Gold purple line {IBL} I was incredibly pleased to get what I call Zacatecas Tribute, which is a mostly Sativa line expressing very old school high quality Mexican nuances.

Hey VM, I'm getting ready for the season and passing some Grape clones to some friends. I've only done them in pots and I was wondering how much space would you give per plant if they were in the ground (with good organics mixed in) and full all day sun here at 42N?

Zacatecas Tribute returning to MX
Let see how it goes.
By the way, I read somewhere, Kagyu says the Big Sur holy weed comes from Nayarit, so why Zacatecas?
They have some nice enchiladas there anyway

Like I said they are very adapted to the Northern parallel, I am kind of surprised they have not started flowering already. Here are longest day is 16 hours? Here on a rainy season medium on botritys and Septoria. Please keep us posted!
Well actually she is like 2 weeks in flowering, aswell is not a legit outdoor grow since i give her some veg indoor before put her out.

Here some closer pics

@vermontman , it's now 7 months since I harvested your Zacateca tribute that I grew outside in the the dearth are 37N Southern Spain. It tolerated up to 45c and grew without trouble.

I have to congratulate you on some outstanding genetics. It resultant cobs are wonderful. Very up and euphoric, a great weed for partying or socialising, no apparent ceiling. A lot of my friend who have smoked it find it quite giggly. When I eat the cob it makes me feel being silly.
My wife and daughter absolutely love it for getting things done in the day time.
I shall be growing her again at some point.
Many thanks.

Hello Hombre!
Thank you for those Kudos!
And you are most welcome.
It really makes me feel much gratification that really helps me carry on the breeding work, hearing your story truly is touching.

The ticks are terrible in Michigan this year so we all have to watch out. I have a quick smoke report for you on my two Zac tribute plants that came down last month. The deep purple shorter plant came down at 9 weeks and finished first and the other more spear structure plant the week after. The one with the spears is more an upright and active creative type buzz and the shorter deep purple plant was much more relaxing. I prefer the more sativa like expression. Puts a smile on my face just like the old Mexicans and is a very friendly, happy buzz. Stony and fairly long lasting. I'm hoping to find a little more potency but only because I want more of what this plant has to offer. Lol. I'm continuing to search through the Green mountain catalog, but there's no doubt this is the type of buzz I am chasing. Love the Perma-grin happy Mexicans of my youth.
Ditto in SW MI! Seem to be getting worse every year...

Greeting @Greencedar !
Sorry I missed your post!
Great timing and super question, especially because we are at the same lat!
Firstly I would wait until June 16th to put out as the light period is at a good level to keep her in veg . an up pot now into a bigger pot with high nitrogen mix I use blood meal 16 Percent fast acting nitrogen to get the girl rolling. Remember she is going to want to start flowering with the shorter photo.
When you put her out keep nitrogen HIGH! Lots of sunny days helps in her transition. Last year I did this and I spaced my girl 8ft x 8ft x 8ft high with some pinching and my girl yielded 1 pound of prime purple nugs!
Hope that helps!
CHEERS!

Another seed grown Panama red X Mountain Gold. Second run of this cross and they are very uniform in how they grow. Planted 50 seeds in late Jan. to select from. 50 popped, pretty good %. Many are out and about with a couple outdoor growers. I hope to bring down the finish time with the M. Gold blood. It definitely mellows the somewhat heavy side of Panama. The female Panama used has never had much of smell. The M. Gold has imparted that great sweet candy smell. The smoke is perfect for all day use. 2 stable parents have produced some quality smoke.

Wow man i havent had it yet. Whats a good comparison meat for the taste?
It's a bit like beef but 10 times fuller in flavor, it's far better than the best beef I have ever had. And I know how this sounds you definitely feel this surge of energy after you it. I pan fried him with home grown onions and Garlic in Olive oil wit a splash of Basamic vinegar, to add a touch of sweetness. I have eaten bear meat here in the mountains quite a bit. But savor every last piece because it is very hard to get, not that there is a shortage of bear here, Hell I saw one next door last week but because I do not hunt. And not many people I know here do these days.
I traded bear meat for Cannabis, I think I made out better on the deal.
