Yeah wet 25°C is optimum before and after seed is open, spring mineral water long float before too but i think that it's better for old seed to be direct in the soil after opening than waiting too long in moist PT. Also use good wattage from the start and not little set up nursery.

Good luck again Zanddar!

Check this out or other sources on embryo rescue might help stubborn seeds
if you can get a tail and have signs of at least a single cell of veg life, go invitro
worst fear is once its gone its gone forever, worth the effort

When I popped seeds from the 70s a few yrs back i did this.

Soak in peroxide for 5 minutes. Rinse.

Soak in 50/50 water / Fulpower. Add a couole drops EM1.
Let em soak overnight, or several hours after they sink.
Remove then place on papertowels to slightly dry out. The idea being theyre gonna need to be wet for a while, so lets not let them rot. I pour them into paper towels and when the towels start to dry (just less than moist but far from dry) i put them on soil. The soil i wet before the seeds go in, then sprinkle down a bit of earthworm castings. Seeds sit on top. Mist with a sprayer til they sprout

I looked at some other seeds in the fridge and the CT were there looking back at me. I plan on trying them again soon.

Thanks for all the tips and will keep trying. Let you know soon what I will do.

T for Thai and T for Try. 40 years old and trying.

What I did this time is firmly roll the seed between my fingers to see if it turned to dust first and many of them did. I'm not going to get anywhere with dead and dried out seeds. My fingers got sore rolling the good seeds though. Then I gave them a 5 min alcohol soak to clean the outside. Then I scuffed the edges to make it easier for the shoot to come out. Then I will give them a 24hr soak in organic food solution. Then they go directly into soil and we wait a month if it takes that long. I have 10, but it only shows 9 in pic.

T is for tease.

That test is interesting, but some have germed before.
They just failed to continue to grow further than the shell.

The one percent h202 wetting will make sure the old seed is not over come by fungi or bacteria

#176

Then you want to soak with M&S nutes $5 USD makes litre

To sterilized fine vermiculite
shot cup size after that there should be enough vigor to tap compost
if there is one living cell it is possible to replicate to full size plant given time and growth hormones

The hormones and enzymes stored in the seed between the embryo and embryo case dry up in old seed and why they dont germinate or go past throwing a small root. Some seed will even split and look like they are about to germ but re close and die.

Cleaning the old seed in a wash i think 3% peroxide ( you need to check that ) is important to remove and contaminants.

Then you need to replace the lost hormones and enzymes.

The coconut water mix works well to increase old seed germination but even then when the seed are to old it to will fail.

Best chance to get them up is using something like

GA3 Gibberellic Acid.

Have you tried soaking them in the fridge? Was something I learned germinating other species of seeds. I imagine it simulates a spring thaw for a seed, and gives the embryo a headstart on germinating ahead of bacteria. ~36 hours in the fridge, in water (either a cup, wet paper towel, whatever). I do all my seeds this way, and it seems to help. I also put a drop of clonex juice in if they're older seeds- B vitamins and hormones like others have recommended

If you've already tried this, apologies. Been quite a long thread. Wishing you luck
