CMH vs LED vs HPS

Quality standard of mass produced plants can't be compared to human size grow op. I come from a farmer family, my grand parents were almost self sufficient with food, they could store their potatoes close to a year in a special cellar. The size of the family garden was much smaller than the corn fields grown to feed the animals.
If you compare the quality of a huge grow op to the product of a dedicated grower who take care of the small details of course the small production will be better.

Someone here mentioned earlier that this happens with some commercial cannabis, too. It is harvested too early for economic reasons, just like tomatoes and pineapples, and just like tomatoes and pineapple, the quality suffers
I know I mentioned it.

I ask every commercial grower I know this question.

Q- “What’s the longest flower time you run”
A- “6 weeks”
A- “47 days”
A- “52 days maximum”

That’s what I get as standard responses, and people wonder why commercial weed is low potency garbage.
Most of the strains grown commercially aren’t even close to ready when they are chopped. They’re basically just large and firm enough, with enough smell to be commercially viable. Taken as far as they can without impacting the grow schedule required to meet the $$$$ target they want.

Realistically 2 of the plants would have had ok/decent effect. All 90% milky 8-9% clear an a few amber. But nothing like they will in 7-10 days

The Romulan i've just done was pretty much done at 7 weeks with LED.

Maybe it will go 8 weeks or later with CMH.

A nice smoke it is too for such an early finisher. I know it will be a real sparkler under CMH.

This is a strain called acid dawg, it’s grown under LED 300watt osram. A top nugget vs a low nugget. It’s not lacking in any department, me and my friends have been smoking since we was 15 , I have used every light possible and I’m growing the best to date BECAUSE MOST PROBABLY I’m a hell of a better grower and the genetics today are way better, give me 1000 watt hps and I will grow some good shit but give me a 1000 watt led fixture and I will blow that out of the water. You guys think this is a great thread, nobody’s comparing data, apart from crooked8 and all the hps growers are just going on there opinion and the great bud they “use to smoke”

“Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth”.

Show us some fantastic hps grown buds by you yourself @snakedope
Because I’m telling you now “mate” your shit is not in the label as this new genetic here grown under hps or led
Looks amazing no doubt, I held many like this in my hand buddy you can be sure, all were short lived smoke, in all parameters.
Finding a good led bud almost seems like an impossible mission to me to be honest, I think it will take 3-5 years until we start to see a change, in commerical or hobbiest that look up to commerical ops like they are god, the growers won't change nothing, as they didn't in the past 50 years, but the tech will catch up eventually, although I think not, but that's for another thread.

Don't take it personal like everybody do, I just don't like the end product that LEDs make, but I absolutely love the look of your flowers, viva la small difference 😊
So “benefits and disadvantages” does not include quality of final product from each category? I also find the discussion worthwhile. This is why I am showing what can be done with Leds. I thought this thread was about explaining the differences clearly so one can make the decision in an informed fashion. Am i missing something?

Pros vs cons of cost, efficiency, spectrum, convenience, yield, and the biggie of all in my opinion in regards to light category is quality.
I personally think your doing a great job 😌

How many different growers led bud have you smoked? Exactly which leds were used? Was it grown in soil or hydro? Was the strain you smoked a clone you have also sampled grown better? I'm curious about your exact comparison. Is there a particular clone you have sampled in a true side by side with all the other variables kept identical?

We have to take a person's opinion with a grain of salt. In no way is that a consensus. They could very well believe what they posted when most others have a different perspective. There are just too many things that could cause the quality to not be what it should. The lights used are only part of the puzzle.

I agree Hammerhead. Many variables.

I personally have grown 4 or 5 varieties under both cmh and led. Exact same feed, soil and very similar temps.

The seeds for these were likely grown under HID by the seed companies/private breeders as they are from 15 or so years ago. Maybe that caused the difference i perceived under led but there was definitely a difference.

When i bought the LED, the bloke in the grow shop told me how much more they yielded.

I asked him whether the quality was as good as HID.

His silence and look said it all.

I still bought the led though

But if it won't stand up to a 9 week strain, is it worth it?

Like I get the difference in appeal between a 50-56 day strain an a 70-77day strain but is only 7 days worth the lack in quality?

Like my last grow I wish my El Chapo was left up another 5 days. It would have put it over the top but my medical condition got in the way an a friend had to harvest for me.

This was grown under leds. 80% milky, quite a few clear and a few ambers here and there.

Its a nice smoke.. Nice medical effects for me. I will rerun it under cmh as it does show promise and i know what's what with cmh.

I find growing under leds somewhat challenging though. I cant call the plants as well.

The plants in general under leds just seem to stop doing anything when finished including maturing the resin and dropping the fan leaves. The fan leaves just turn red and purple with the yellow edges...

I prefer 20% or so amber. Bob hope of that under my leds in my environment though.

This next run though  CMH all the way.

Unfortunately not. It no longer exists.

It was a wooden frame heavily insulated with 100mm Kingspan, 3m x 2m x 2m, lined with mylar

6 inch fan exhaust, passive intake.

Was a nice box. so well insulated i could have done Foley recordings.

I bought Jake's Romulan for the med effects described, nerve pain/PTSD etc. The shorter flower time was a bonus and appealed to me after months of dealer bud.

It stands up quite well to most 8 or 9 weekers.

It actually reminds me of what we used to get in the early 90s.
