~PIFF~ A.K.A. Uptown Haze/Frankies/Church. Preserving a Heritage...

@hempy

The Haze Whisperer
The guy Issac in the adam Dunn piff interview. He says something about the NLHZ seeds coming from Ed rosenthal or some shit like that. Alluding to it being the elusive NL5HZA.
Really annoying show btw. How many people do they actually need to talk over the guests? Adam Dumn is good enough at that by himself. Potcast is the best show out there so far.

The seed was sent by Nevil to a contact in NY and in my thread DJ posted about it all.

If i am not mistaken some one was murdered and 5 KG of seed was taken.

No NL5HzA was ever sold or made commercially available it was only NL5xHzC.

Shiest Bubz telling the Piff story on SmokeDZA's podcast. Starts at 6 minutes in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaQjFgp3ZiY

I tried to pull some useful info from that podcast but fell short of any substance. More of an infomercial for Shiest Bubz’s ego.

Well of the top of my head the gist of it was that he started getting it from some NY Dominicans / Puerto Ricans in 2000. Was a hard sell to his clientele at first due to the high price but eventually caught on. It was called it Puday and Purple Haze, the latter of which was also often misheard as Pepperhead due to the strong accent. Wanting to differentiate himself he was saying to his customers asking for Puday that "pfft it's not Puday it's the fire" or whatever and then eventually the 'pfft' sound became the onomatopoeic name Piff (something which our own Dr.Young disputes - says he came up with the name as a combination of puff and sniff). Started serving Dipset and the rest is history, the word gets used in big hits like "Killa Cam"...

Also some mentions about NY neighborhoods, pricing, and packaging. Regarding the last of those - what on earth are the "caskets" they are talking about?

Yup... I came up with so many crazy code words on the phone and it was a way for me to test how smart someone was... Piff was just a code for Puff and Sniff.... bud and blow... 2 things in 1 word was super clever and discrete imo..... Not really sure why the domican ran with it and it became just the haze but.... yeah....
Think ima try to hunt down sheistbub and catch him in a live video or something or message him and ask if he knows the domican I'm talking about.....It would be awesome to findout if my burnout ass actually did come up with the word Piff and im so burnt it took me 20 years to realize hahahhaa

goingrey good summary and no idea what the caskets are. The one thing that lingers as a disagreement I had was that at the beginning of the show, he almost set the stage that all good things in the haze/piff/whatever world were “of course” all based on nlxhaze genetics likely gathered from Amsterdam seed banks. Without trying to start the next haze debate and getting this thread locked like the haze discussion thread (when are we getting that back?) is I find it unlikely that southern Latin American community would source from that route when the building blocks of haze were largely built up from smuggled stock from Colombia etc… that were then bred in the US. I suspect they found their own around or before Sam took that flight and it just so happened there were similar sources that they put together. Seems like a disservice to the contributions to the cannabis world that they brought to the table.

I think they were getting bud in little caskets from one of the spots they were talking about. Can anybody speak on the Audubon Ave haze? That seems to be one of the long flowering NY Hazes.

couldn’t agree more, 3+ hour show with maybe 30 min of informative content. I would have been annoyed if I was Issac too. Pot cast does a great job as does growcast

100% agree. Smoke DZAs “Personal Party” podcast episode with Shiest Bubz goes over the grimier: dealer/East side Harlem side of piff. Well worth the time compared to Adam Dunn’s show...
sad way to utilize 3hrs with quality guests.

Not sure if anyone answered you but the caskets were plastic rectangles filled with piff. You use to see them on 178 and audobon in the late 90's early 2000's. They were 50 pieces. Did you ever see the tnt bags from 175th?

Thanks. Yeah it was answered but the extra info is appreciated. Rectangle makes sense I was imagining them to be coffin shaped,⚰️, that would have been morbidly funny.. Was it Sour or Piff though?

Don't know anything about any TNT bags. If they were special let the world know, this kinda history is interesting.

PiffCoast has the cuts. Put in the work. And made some great seed lines. To anybody who thinks Top Dawg's seeds are made with a different cut. You are sadly mistaken.
Heads up to those who watch that dunn crap. His guest Piff Coast is an absolute fraud.
His piff s1 is actually from bottlenecked bagseed. Although he tries to claim deals with Dominican organized crime.
Anyways the so-called S1 is worthless in his fem reversals as it comes from a longline of bagseed perpetuation.
All turned out dwarf.
This statement couldn't be any more false. Bottlenecking genetics ? Do you know what S1 means ? S2 ? The whole point is to recombine those genetics and only those genetics. To hopefully find more of the qualities you like and less of what you don't in each subsequent generation. I've grown multiple vars from him. Never had a dwarf plant. Sounds to me like you're butt-hurt somebody had a little success.

Both of you are right really. In breeding bottlenecking means using small populations. Making S1's is an extreme form of bottlenecking. It has it's benefits like what you mention but also it's risks like an increased incidence of genetic disorders such as dwarfism.

I'm happy for PiffCoast's success and your good luck with his gear. But it is what it is. On the other hand it's not like a true breeding "Piff" line that has been meticulously maintained with fields of 10k+ plants even exists so I do wonder what exactly @Paul-n-Chukka's suggestion to all the Piff seekers is, to just forget about it?

Doing the best I can with what I got 🙏 I’m not sure why people are still stuck up on the piff s2s as that was one of my first drops years ago. I’ve done a black haze reversal since then and found the Harlem dreams through that breeding then did a Harlem dreams reversal and made and am finding a bunch even more cool stuff now. Got the flowering time down while retaining the piffy incense smell that’s left in the air while you smoke it and added some bag appeal. Every generation just keeps coming out better and i was never able to find any genetics like this in the 10+ years I was growing and buying haze seeds looking for it before I got the clone so wether I’m perfect or not I like to think I’ve done more good than harm in preserving and sharing of these genetics within the community

The point I was making. Was that's the entire goal of selfing plants. Somebody who talks about bottlenecking genetics on a post about selfing plants. I don't think has the best grasp on breeding.

NO.

Cuban Black Haze is from FL. Flower was transported to NYC. Cuban Black Haze is "THE piff haze" - and a lot of what is out there that is representative of that particular type of haze - is 99.9% likely to be a bag seed found over the years in something they picked up off the blocks.

CBH - must have some relation to the A5 cut - no one is really sure how or in what way. It IS NOT Haze C related - therefore is not a variation of "Neville's Haze" - ie the seed line. It's something different. How there was some form of A5 related genes down in Florida at that time frame is a mystery, but it's the way it is.

@PiffCoastFarms - is 100% LEGIT - and anyone who says otherwise has an agenda. I've smoked nearly all of the early NYC Hazes as a result of getting to know Piff Coast - and I have smoked, Cuban Black Haze - grown by the same old Cuban man in Florida, the same way it has been grown since the 90's. I know EXACTLY what the block was getting. I've had it, thanks to @asher1er.

It has been a massive honor to get to these people. They have shared freely - both flower and information - out of love of the plant and love of haze - NO other agenda. These are GOOD people - doing GOOD things.

@PiffCoastFarms - brought "piff" type haze back into the spot light for a new generation of smokers and growers to enjoy and have access to. He has put in the work and put in the dedication to carve out a very unique brand and has done an amazing job - locking in the "piff" terpene profile and modernizing it and proliferating it in his seed lines. He deserves absolutely nothing but appreciation and respect for tackling something many others only talked about doing. He knows what he is doing. He makes damn fine selections. You can trust his seeds to produce exactly what he says they will.

This isn't a slam or a disregarding of other people who have worked with Cuban Black Haze or their own bag seed keepers found over the years - but to dedicate an ENTIRE BUSINESS MODEL - to plants that want to run over 100 days...LOL. Yeah. No one was doing that...

@Yo Sammy and @Karma G setting the A5 free for others to play with and experience - PROVES the "piff" type haze absolute comes from the Haze A equation. People looked for that particular type of expression in EVERYTHING - and it couldn't be found. Upon A5 getting circulated a bit and in the hands of some talented breeders - the "piff" expressions started surfacing and being rediscovered in NEW unique combinations.

Prior to the A5 getting set free - the only way you were going to get "piff" from a seed - was if the Cuban Black Haze was in some way involved.

JJNYC. Piff Coast. Asher1er. If you want to know about "piff" - sit at a table and listen to these men talk. LOL. It'll blow your mind. I know first hand. :respect:

If that's all it was, then there would be more examples of it on the market over the last 25 odd years. People wouldn't have sorted everything under the sun looking for it.

Jack is terpinolene forward - like the C5 offspring tended to be. That's is why no one ever found anything similar.

With all the various cuts of NL5/Haze going around, someone would have found more examples of it.

If Neville never publicly listed A5 offspring for sale as has always been stated - just C5...

Then no. It's not JUST ... something you could go and buy enough seeds and find another example.

It's related to A5 - and that's why it couldn't be found.

Piff = Cuban Black Haze = FACTS. That is where it all started.
