exactly how do you propose legally stopping a billionaire from buying something which the owner wants to sell? i'll wait, this ought to be entertaining...

You can't, unless you make some kind of upper hard limit on how much of something someone could own. But billionaires are known to be creative at avoiding rules and limits, if they need to, so it would basically be pointless. Then a relative or a company would own what the billionaire as a person can't. Or they'll find an even better way.

used to be useful limits on number of radio stations, newspapers etc one could own...at least within a given region/market area. SC fucked that up. no such limit on things like land, buildings, Ben & Jerries ice cream, shit like that. buy all you can stand (and afford)

Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996, allowing giant corporations to buy up as many media outlets as they wanted. That is what turned the media into the corporate shit show of propaganda we have now. I'll never forgive him for ruining radio, in particular.
