I do not keep moms, never have. Everything I have is, and has always been, kept by clone to clone.

When I take cuttings, I take a couple of the strain and when they throw roots, I pot them all up into 3" containers.

Some get transplanted to 6" then to 3 gal and flowered.

Some stay in the 3" containers for literally months, some up to a year.

The plants that stay in the containers that long do get ugly but they have never started flowering for me under daylight cfl.

A simple transplant causes them to start throwing new growth. These plants are also what I consider emergency backups in case I forget to take a cut of plant.

I veg under daylight CFLs and will continue to until I run out of them.

Looking good!

I'm using a similar "mom" method as well. I was under the impression that was fairly common, is it not? My mom plants won't last more than a year before one of their clones becomes a "mom" and the mom gets flowered.

Excited to see what you pull out of this cab :joint:

Now that youve drawn me that picture, I realize that Ive read that before. Just maybe not laid out so plainly. So thank you for taking the time!

I'm like q3corn. Historically speaking, my moms dont usually last more than a year.
And you say that some of your clones stay in 3" pots for up to a year.
That sounds like it should work for me.

I'm doing the initial R&D on an eventual micro set-up that is still months away....
(Currently influenced by Dr Bud, Anti, and Terpene. Among others... such as yourself...)

I'm considering a SILs SOG. (at least at first... for variety...)
So wouldn't necessarily have an abundance of clippings to root...

I've gone through your SILs thread a few times.
And Ive seen a few people struggle with sils in veg... especially with seedlings...

Since CFLs dont seem to be widely available atm (Or am I mistaken?),
what would you recommend for a micro veg light?

Quite the inspiration indeed! I've read about 20 pages so far. It is probably in here somewhere but I have a couple questions about distancing with sils.

How close to you let your plants get to the bulbs?
Have you ever noticed any light burn marks on leaves?

I had a 32W sil 8" away from some new plants cause leaf discolorations. CFLs I was able to let grow right into the bulbs without problems. I'm about to set up some micro cabs and was hoping you could give me some insight on light distancing with LED.

On the daylight cfl vs led. Those are two completely different spectrums. CFLs are not full spectrum bulbs. New leds are. It might be that the chlorophyll a & b are getting more useable photons from the leds than the cfls. Also not all LEDs are the same spectrograph even if they are the same kelvin. It's crazy how far they have come.

I've found in my setup the LEDs need to be further away than the CFLs.

If LEDs cause flowering in veg, I'll take CFLs.
