todays update

todays update

The droopy leaves are starting to freak me out any ideas what it could be? Over feeding? RH too low at 30?

The root tips are fat, but the top part under the net pot and above the water level are getting skinny, or are just skinny from before when they were small. Looks weird.

I sprayed them for the first time today, seemed to like it a bit, the top leaf sets perked a bit but are still pointed towards the ground :(

droopy leaves!

droopy leaves!

(wth didnt i have this thread subscribed?) ..huh..

ohwell hey there deft, nice DWC :D

droopy "clawed" leaves, thats quite easy my friend, thats just a little too high ph. u need to take it down to under 6,0. around 5,8-9. you know this stuff prolly blabla.

maybe your ph-meter is unadjusted or smthin? anyways im quite sure, thats too high ph! if the ph is low the leaves will start reaching upwards towards the sky. too high and they curl down and make that claw form.

ill be lurkin :D

Yea I had that thought too, but I broke my ph meter just before I could get a reading on the changed rez. I got some drops but they only go down to 6.2 and its below that. I guess I'll add a bit of ph down. I have another meter coming allong with a bunch more phosphoric acid since my ph always rockets upwards, when I set it at 5.1 its at 5.9 the next days reading somtimes! I think my old ph meter was screwd up and skewed upwards a bit (so if it read 5.5 it might have actually been 5.9 or so).

PPM are up to 550, ec 1.1

I really appreciate the fast help guys! Rep to all who can get it!

(edit) spo: my friend dont you worry about me, the thought is much appriciated tho.

ill be hitting my big-ass bong, some ssh & some hawaiian skunkxmauiwaui will do the trick for me.

dude while i have your attention. i can totally spot you as a kush fan. and i am totally into the kush atm. the sam the skunkman answers questions about the original kush is one of my fav on icmag. tobad there is so much blabla.

anyway im a huge nirvana seed co fan, you got any thoughts on the nirvana kush strains? or any tips which kush is hot atm?

deft: that is weird if it is below 6,2 they shouldnt be showing that much of a curl really. but i think you can safely take it down a smidge. its a bit shaky when you cant get an exact reading tho. i have been using ph drops lately (GHE) and i too feel that the reading is abit hard to tell sometimes. i might be investing in another expencive ph-pen soon, but this time i want a good one, the last one sucked ass!

Could be at exactally 6.2 and it would show the same color. What is the active ingredient in the GH drops? Mine says bromine something, turns dark dark blue with my high ph tap and slightly yellow/green with rez water.

I wish there were an easier way without the guessing and remixing of drops or breaking expensive meters. Note to all, if you have a Milwaukee pen type meter the threaded thing that holds on the electrode spins but if the electrode itself spins your pins get twisted the fuck up. I was able to re align them and it worked a little but now I can't adjust the 7 calibration lower than 8 or so and it keeps bugging out and shutting off.

Oh well, replacement electrodes for the new one will only be $30 and should last a lot longer than this one since I know you need to store it wet in buffer solution!

Heheh...jedi-like lol ;-). Yeah, I am a big big fan of the kush's. I am a Nirvana Seed Co fan myself, but have never tried their kush strains. Here are some hot kush's right now (IMO)... Sour Diesel x OG Kush, Bubbakush, and some others; i also really like the Hindu Kush,

I'm trying to convince myself to set up a small breeding room in the new house to experiment with genetics... we'll see...

i had one of the cheapest milwaukee pens and it was absolute shit. it was impossible to keep calibrated, constantly wrong all the time. had to calibrate before every time i used it. and then whats the point really with a pen vs drops was what i thought.

but i saw one my friend from northgrow.no (got a friend with a growshop) was trying to sell me not long ago. i cant really remember the name of the producer, but that one was both ph/ec and it didnt need calibrating more then once every second week or so. cost a shitload of money tho. like what amounts to hundreds of dollars. so i totally agree there should really be better products!

spo: good tips, im really thinking the same i want to make my own beans. but its daamn hard to get a hold of a good male around here with the shortage of beans everything is clones getting passed around. i got my eye on the nirvana hindu kush. man id love to get a good male out of that one. a friend is going to amsterdam in 2 days he said i could choose a strain! im thinking nirvana hindu kush!

Hey Deft,
Welcome to the world of DWC.
I am not trying to hijack your thread but I just wanted to show some pictures.

This is my first time growing and with DWC none the less!!

These are two weeks into flower.

Before trimming:

Nice to have you aboard! I don't seem to get those fat ass roots at all, mine so far are ENTIRELY tiny roots but lots of them. Guess its still early yet lol, but I am worried about my roots since I noticed today that the out of water bits under the net pot seem too skinny.

Deft...I have never heard of roots being too skinny, is the root mass still growing continuously? are the roots still nice and white where the new growth is? I would love a close up of your roots to see what all the worry is about brother...Drop that PH to the 5.8 zone and keep that tub clean (scrubbed), should be just fine bro...

Well my roots seem to have thickened up when I let the water level go pretty far down. So I don't know if fat roots are a good thing.

I switched to hps today, that coupled with the misting (I think the tranpiration was too high and was lowering turgor pressure) extra bubbles, rez change and slightly lower temps helped the droopy leaves out.

I'll take a pic melting pot. The root tips got a little fat and brown at the tips but I think that was because of the slimy buildup and my tinkering with the contents of the rez (lucas from here on out). The roots are still very healthy and white, little more stained from the bump up in ppm and increased micro content but they feel fresh and not slimy at all.

TGP: yea it seems to me that the thick trunk like roots are just pipelines for water, they don't have much surface area so not too good at exchanging ions or sucking up water but great for transport up and down (I say down because roots need to get food produced in the leaves).

Damn those are some phat roots! One thing that I noticed about the hydroton, is that it REALLY needs to be rinsed very well. I washed mine and I still get some of the red silt. But I love the stuff. :rasta: Keep up the great job!
