Hell yeah...nice work gettin em' up and running Deft, be prepared for some explosive growth!!! Wintertime really makes running the DWC a whole helluvalot more carefree.
Are these seeds feminized by chance?

No they are not fem, but I can always start more and not loose much time. This is more of an experiment and learning experience for me, and if I get more than 100g bud I'll me very very happy. If I get a male and female I will make seed, if its just two males I will freeze pollen, so anyway its going to be good as long as they don't die.

I did wait till winter hit to do another grow because in a closet temps are an issue.

100gm should be NO issue...
I have only run clones in my DWC tubs, and when I saw your pic I wondered if you took into consideration that these 2 seedlings rootmasses will eventually connect in the tub...My only worry would be that you could have 2 good sized plants w/ connected root masses, and one turns out to be male....you now need to either try to remove the male root mass from the females (which will be tough when you see the size of these f 'in roots), or cut the male from the stalk and risk it's root system rotting in yer tub, and leading to problems w/ yer girl...Just something to think about...
I think that you should be confident in this style D...it'll be right up yer alley I'm sure...

Hey SpoCanna, snuck in there on me. Why do you say no aluminum? I understand its toxic in high concentrations and a conductor so I watch out for that.

Yes that is very true, not to mention I posted the reflectivity information below - taken from OverGrow Grow FAQ's.

Can I use foil to reflect light?

Yes, but you must use the dull side to reflect your light as the shinny side will produce concentrated hotspots. Using aluminum foil is a cheap alternative to using mylar or white paint, but it does not perform nearly as well.


I prefer to eliminate it completely because I don't feel it is effective whatsoever...IMO

Yea Spo I have never had a problem with hot-spots or lensing. I am mainly using it to reflect the heat that was hitting the tub but I will keep an eye out for light bleaching/burning. You should not need to have reflection pointing up because your canopy should not let much light reach the rez top, I was just worried about the black lid sucking up the heat and making my rez even warmer.

It does reflect heat damn well though, maybe a 250w cmh is not hot enough to cause burning via hot spots.


Melting pot, yea I intend if I get a boy and girl to do an open pollination and have more seed than I need. Apparently holy grail is very uniform so no selection should be 'OK' I think.

Sweet job so far. Im just getting ready to throw a 3 different size DWC buckets, for 1 qt. to 3 1/2 gals Im allowed 36 by state law , so Im planing on having like 12 of each size. Ill throw up some pixs and thread when I get some genitics. Love your thread keep it coming!

Took readings just now, ppm are steady at 430 or so, ph has crept up from 5.5 to 5.8 in the last 4 days so I will probably use a few ml of ph down tomorrow and get it to 5.4 or so. Temps have cooled off since things have cooled off outside, rez is now 73 or so and air is steady at 79 with a fairly low humidity of around 20-30 being winter.

Someone asked me to take a pic of the bubbles so I did, got my feet wet with root porn too for the first time! Roots are growing very fast as are the plants so I am a happy guy

Honestly I would be as happy with a guy and a girl, if I only get one girl or even none I will be better off seed wise. If I get a girl it will be cloned for spring for outside.

Nice rot pron Yah Im sure they will need change every vfew days or so. Ill keep the nutes around 250-300 on the qts. size, 300-600 the 1 gal size, 600-1200 on the 3 1/2 gals size. Ill just top off with straight water,ph bal.Look in sweet!! How often do you change yours?

This is my first hydro so I never have changed the rez out. I need a lot more ph down as I only had about 5oz so only about 4oz left and I need a lot of it because my tap is int he high 8.x range.

Any ideas on when I should change it out or if its ok to just add back? Thats something I was wondering about, I hope to change it infrequently which is one reason why I chose the 18gal instead of something smaller.

On my SWC I just topped it off until I added approx half of the res volume then did a change out.

Hey Deft, you are a clean builder and grower, maybe thats why folks think your a pro.

I do my mothers in dwc and never change the res unless there is a problem. When I used to flower in dwc I'd only change it out every three weeks or so, usually 3 times during flower, one being for flush. It all depends on you and your grow space but I would say if res temps are right and you keep the nutes simple and lite (by lite I mean light, and by that I mean only give them what they need) and keep your room clean and tidy then you should have no problem letting the res go for a while.

Anyway, good grow. Can't wait to see what genders you get.

When I was growing in soil the closet was very nasty, and I think that was a very bad thing for the plants. They are doing as well as I could have hoped for at this point.

Little bit of curling after I dropped the ph yesterday night. I think the EC is a bit high at .8 but its been rock steady with a .15 upward PH drift per day, I need to get more ph down since I may not even have enough to finish this grow with current minimal supply.

Anyways heres todays pic, they are getting noticeably larger every day.
