    GDP Bay Dream 400w DWC

    Greetings growers!

I was years ago inspired to take up this delicious hobby by overgrow, and later this very site.

I am a long time member of the 150w club, having cut my teeth and mastered the art of the micro-grow using a butchered Home Depot security light and an old metal storage cabinet.

Recently, I decided to splurge and spend $100 to either upgrade my box or buy some new genetics. Somehow a strange fever crept over me causing an insatiable thirst for more... brighter!

By the time this sudden madness had passed, I ended up with 3x the space, almost 3x the lumens, some crazy genetics and a $600 hole in my pocket.

I will be documenting in this very thread, my attempt to accomplish greatness with all these new toys. Accordingly, here are the parameters of my current grow.

Genetics Bay Dream by Granddaddy Purple (Bay 11 x Blue Dream)
    Lighting 400 HPS
Medium DWC : 5 gal buckets with 6" net pots
Space Secret Jardin DR90 II (3'x3'x6')
    Nutes FloraNova Bloom Lucas Formula

    Now on with the show!

400w HPS (HTG Magnetic Ballast and bulb) with a EuroCool air cooled reflector.

Vented via a 160cfm 6" Duct Booster fan. I used my 150w club skill set and mounted the fan on the roof of the tent via a piece of cardboard from an old keyboard box with a hole cut into it.

A 24 hour burn in the first day, and the hood/glass were literally cool to the touch. This is wonderful, as it will allow me get up close and personal with the light, maximizing my 44w sq foot in the tent.

The HTG ballast shockingly (sic) was hard-wired to the socket. If you look closely at the left hand side you can see I quickly rectified that issue with $10 worth of socket from the hardware store.

I also bought some chain while I was at the store. The crappy yo-yo hangers I bought with the hood were just that... crap.

Ballast, Air Pump and Digital Timer outside the tent. Damn does that thing get hot! They are sitting on an old metal kitchen dish rack, which actually used to be my micro-scrog screen in the metal storage cabinet!

They are illuminated by the DR90's flap vent, which I am using for passive ventilation. (Opposite side of the hood air intake)

        Inside of the tent.

I popped 4 beans with a paper towel, 3 out of 4 cracked. I have two currently in 5 gallon DWC buckets with 6" netpot lids. I need a monther, but I can fill this tent with one plant using LST, running two will be overgrown. Not sure what to do with the 3rd plant. It's sitting in a small 3" netpot cup bubbler until I figure things out.

Yes the power strip mounted to the pole is empty. Need to find a reliable way to move air about within the tent. Thinking a 6" clip-on fan, but I can't find a one people are not complaining about in reviews.

Using 4 gallons of water to start, will dial that back to 3.5 gallons once roots show. The water level will be an inch or two above the bottom of the netpots. (Like Heath I don't like cord roots)

One thing that occurred this run which has never happened before, is problems with the rockwool. The hydro store only had Grodan brand cubes, which seemingly was denser or had hard-spots within it.

I had to perform surgery on two of the three cubes. They were having issues penetrating the rockwool with the tap root. The first was tying itself into a knot, the second was literally lifting the seedling right out of the cube instead of growing into it!

p.s. Not being able to edit my posts is damned annoying.

I was not satisfied with my $11 aquarium air pump, so I bought a new toy today. A 70L 'commerical' grade air pump. It came with a nifty 8 port manifold. It puts out considerable noise, but I'm more concerned that it appears to get quite warm. Will have to check my bucket temps after running it for awhile.

One thing I will not be lacking is DO!

Added a third bucket to the tent for my GDP Bay Dream pheno quest.

3 Sativas in a 3x3 tent? Overgrown mess incoming...

Ive got my ballast in mid-air too. Metal dept store hanger in pegboard. Pegboard doubles as a passive air intake. I had it on the floor until I had to pry it out of the linoleum. Ooops!

                Nice and clean, looking good.

I had to unplug the AAPA70L. Not only did it get ballast-hot after running for a bit, but the noise the thing made was not certainly not isolated to the room the tent was it.

The entire house felt like it was vibrating. The racket the thing emitted could be heard through floors, walls and most importantly... outside!

$60 down the drain and back to cheap aquarium air-pumps.

Hah, and here you thought from the odor that you had stumbled upon a 'linoleum haze' pheno!

Gave the babies their first dose of nutes yesterday. Will be running a GH FloraNova Bloom Lucas formula schedule. Res is nice and stable at 5.8.

I usually run the GH two part Lucas schedule, but decided to give the FloraNova series a try. The stuff has the texture and consistency of explosive diarrhea! Also incredibly hard to mix well, so I bought a paint mixer attachment for my drill and switched it's container.

Closeups of the three plants. One of them is somewhat lagging behind the others.

Lots of branching. I'll be topping them soon enough.

                              I appreciate the kind words.

Don't expect it to stay so neat for long. Considering I could easily fill out a 3x3 foot area with one plant using aggressive LST, having three 80% sativa plants frightens me.

Here's what GDP themselves say about the strain.

Myself, I find that 3'-5' claim somewhat dubious. I'm unable to contact the GDP rep here for any advice, such as how the strain reacts to topping. Evidently, I need to have 999 posts before I can send a PM?
