Oh man, That was a great story. And a happy ending(except for the 175 euro).

From my briefcase that was sitting on the front passenger seat I produced a 200 euro note and handed it to the cop saying 'Keep the change......maybe you guys can buy a beer after work with it?'.....The cop smiled and said 'No...no we cannot accept money from you'....this must have distracted his attention somewhat because he did not ask me for my drivers licence again......The other cop came around to my window and looked at the car then said 'Fast Car........' and I said 'If I had'nt slowed down for gas you would never have caught me'.........and they both nodded their heads in agreement.......

I was free to go and drove the few hundred meters into the Texaco gas station where I filled my tank, took a leak and paid for the fuel . Then I was back on the road again pulling around a big truck quickly overtaking it and on the other side it I noticed a Renault Espace people carrier with a big blue light on the top of it with the words 'Douane' just underneath it.....'Douane' meant 'Customs' in French.....since we were near the French border these guys must be around to check the big trucks that pass thru here....or so I thought........

My thinking was that these guys were not Police and so I overtook the Renault and as I did I looked into my rear view mirror to see the blue flashing light turned on.......was he trying to stop the truck I wondered? It sure looked like it since he pulled onto a slip road and it seemed to me like he was trying to get either myself or the truck behind me to stop........I carried straight on up the motorway and saw him draw parallel to me, there were about 4 uniformed men in the minivan and 3 of them were waving at me.......the words to a Clash song suddenly came into my head....'Should I stay or should I go!'..

It became quite obvious to me that these customs guys wanted me to stop.......for what I was not sure?.......They were not traffic cops and so they could not book me for speeding again......and I was only doing about 10 kph above the speed limit anyway.......I quickly ran thru my head what contents of the car might proove interesting to these Belgian customs guys as I pulled over behind the French made vehicle......and came up with the idea that they would probably be interested in the big bag of cannabis seeds that sat in my samsonite suitcase in the trunk of the car..........I never travel with herbalcannnabis or any other illegal substances in the car (just legal seeds)..so I thought that I would be O.K......

About a year before I had declared about 2 kilos of cannabis seeds to the French 'Douane' in Calais because I was curious as to the legality of me transporting seeds from my Amsterdam 'Seed Boutique' to my London 'Seed Gallery'......They were curious but after a little deliberation the French customs official came back to me and said 'La Grain au cannabis....c'est no pas problem'......and he waved me on after giving me the 2 kilos of seeds back......

Three rather disheveled looking uniformed men got out of the minivan and stood around my car....eyeing it up....A tall one with dark swathy looks and a face like an ex-boxer came around to my window and demanded to see my papers....Here we go again I thought as I handed him the insurance certificate and my passport.....These guys did'nt seem to be as friendly as the traffic cops had been earlier.....there was not a smile amongst them......

They asked me where I had come from and where I was headed to......so I told them that I had come from Amsterdam and was headed to London. Then the swathy one asked me to open the trunk of the car and when I did he asked me to open my two suitcases......I took the smaller case out first and opened it to show them my laptop and cameras....and after just a cursory look the Belgian customs guy asked me to zip it back up and to get the other bigger suitcase out........the case with a big carrier bag full of 'Freebie's' and several thousand euro's worth of Dutch Passion and Sensi-Seeds inside.....

...I opened the big samsonite suitcase and pulled the big bag of nicely packed 'freebie' seeds out.....the customs cop asked me what were in the packs and I said 'Cannabis seeds'.....This caused what might be construed as a little excitement amongst them as two of them quickly got onto their radios and started speaking to someone at the other end of them in a fairly animated fashion......

We were on the side of the motorway with many cars and trucks flashing by very close to us and so one of the customs officers suggested that I should follow them to a safer place where they could thoroughly check me out....I started the engine and followed them up a slip road and off the autoroute where we stopped again.....The swathy cop returned to my side of the car and asked for my ignition key.....so I gave it to him....then he returned to the Renault where the others were as I sat there in my car wondering what if anything was going to happen to me.....?
