Scrappy-doo

Nice score on the 400 watt setup dude! :dance013:

I think you're really gonna be happy with the quality and quantity from running one of these.

Have you ever considered running a vertical setup? I run bare bulb vert and I don't think I'll ever go back to horizontal. Way less heat issues, better yield, and just more fun! To me anyway.

You gonna run this now or wait?

I've looked at Horizontal and again.. hell Ya... Sick looking grow's.
I am hoping not to stick to one style for a few years.
I really want to go through as many different type grows as I
can.

Im going change over to HPS/CFL
Im thinking start with the 400w with fan on and test the heat
see if I can get the 150 hps and a few cfl's down low.
I want to keep it around 700w total if I can.

5 top cola's cut early - A few days hanging- then brown bag- into jar's a couple weeks.
39 grams dried and a few viable seed's

It's great for being ground, leaving you with the perfect consistency to roll it or put it in a bowl.

It's sill not too dry, but not exactly fresh off the vine.

Rolled a fatty and it went out 2 times, then stayed and burned perfect.
Smoked a bowl and it burns slow, and builds up a fat thick creamy hit
, sure is a nice way to say "SURPRISE!" to your lungs.

The taste: is beautiful, kinda woodsy and deep forest-ish with subtle hints of sweetness and diesel after taste.

Effects: Trippe, head high - slow roller, waves across the brain. Let's u think a little then hit's the brakes and
and, and, What was I saying...

Looks. Pure fluff- not compact at all. Tall, shiny to fat widths buds. (Pre cut colas-2-3 weeks early)

It's buds are long and skinny and tend to not be compact so she looks like a sativa dominated strain to me.

Though she has seed's- Not so many as to have affected her final outcome. Of 39g dried I only found
a dozen or so seeds. A few of which look viable so that's a pure bonus.

Over all- Yep I am straight up happy I grew her- She took nuits and tea's like a champ-
Fought with mites and home made Oil-mite's killer spray and my whole
learning curve and never even flinched. Very hardy, very easy to grow
and I cant wait to try growing her with the right light-soil set up.

Though she was a seed found in a couple nugs I picked up
months before I started my grow & I was lucky to remember I had it. lol

DYI help? water cooled with mini chiller 6" 400w HPS Tube Grow Lightn 4-27-12

DYI help? water cooled with mini chiller 6" 400w HPS Tube Grow Lightn 4-27-12

Hello people... I need a little help with a project.
Im looking to make a DIY 400w water cooled tube grow light with self chiller -- YEP -- lol

Anyone have a link to a good water cooled tube light DIY ?

Has anyone done one themselves ? Advise and thought are welcome and if ya got a better
way to go about it. Chime in.

Thought I would throw this out and see what comes up...
I should have all part by Monday/Tuesday. Plan on making Tuesday/Wednesday

Things to come.

So I come across a sweet deal and pick up one new 400W

6" 400 w Sun Tube Grow Light, Harvest Pro MH + HPS Ballast

Starts me thinking about heat. Really don't want to deal with AC yet outside temp are going up.
I look into water cooled chiller/Tube's.. Ouch.$$$

Having built a ton of computers (which get hot) it dawns on me.

I now have 2

Copper Radiator About 5" x 4" x 1-1/2"

Last yet not least I found a

Corsair Nautilus 500 Water cooling Kit with CPU Block, Cooling Unit and Tubing

My thinking.

basic frame around the rim of radiators for fin protection-

2 - 6" to 4" reducers flanges
2- 6" wide extension tube's around 4 inches long

Take the radiators and place into the Extension tube attaching with JB weld type product
Drill 1/2 holes for the hoses.

Place one on each side and connect the air reducers one side connected to the scrubber and the other Either out the window or if it works well enough.
I will just leave the other extention open to the room.

The Nautilus 500 Water cooling is small yet I have used one before and they work great on computers.
I need to make a simple power cord.
Thinking mount 2 rings to the base of pump and mount on top the light(removable and movable)

Made to run with a small amount of fluid around 5 oz.
uses a fan to cool water
Looking for a good anti-freeze type fluid to use instead of distilled water.

I am hoping to daisy chain the 2 radiators into the one pump there by giving me a couple extra oz
once I prime the lines.

If not enough temp drop I will then use the N-500 for one side and connect a small water pump
place into a 5 gal ice cooler and freeze 1 gallon containers of water.
( 5 gal ice cooler with 3 gal water and one frozen gal) then connect that to the other radiator.

Spent so far
$114. new Light
$9. x2 new Radiators
$35. used D-500 water cooling system.

Thankz fer ya time.. Yep..

Super Silver Haze Top Cut Smoke Review - 4-29-12

Well she only lasted a couple days in a jar.
I had to taste her so I took 2 bowls worth and... Wow...

The smell- is strong and fresh. When chopped in a grinder it smells of a super sweet berry fruit jam.

The taste- Amazing from the second it hit my mouth. Sweetness Yet a hint of earthy taste.
Just awesome for no jar time.

The effect- of this Super silver haze hits really fast and is especially strong mentally.

I just had to grind it up and enjoy her as is.
Very happy here...

You really should just fire up the 400 watt hps and put it right over top of the flowering plants,
Then build a long fixture on a 2x4 for ALL of your CFL's, and run them vertically in the midlle of your light- staved sativas.
** Then,,, take all that copper to a scrap yard, and sell it so you can have money for another HPS light. mebe a 600 this time.

please

Just waiting for the 400W hps to show up then I will re design the room.

Thankz for your idea's. Enjoy green...
That could work. I almost picked up a enclosed 4' Coors light for over pool table.
at the swapmeet. Just a little too small for the 150Hps.Width that is.
Would have been sweet with 150 and a few 64w cfl's air cooled. oh well..lol

Dence and sticky with a awesome smell.

My guess is 70+ grams of buds, once dried.

Sour Diesel Cut down-- Day 92 --4-29-12
picture.php

This is what's left after I cut her colas and I think I made the right move there.
Her lower half really filled in better over the few weeks.

Less fluff though not super dense and only a hint of frost.
I suspect that is this phenoms trait. (seed/mini frostier)

Over all I like the looks. Lots of full fat nice looking nugs and she smells like
a 3 day old skunk fart locked in the jar u just opened.
Yep...Kinda just hits you...

She loses a ton of weight when dried, so judging by her colas I will go with
75-80 grams buds & 50-60 grams shake once dried---
so together with her colas 38 grams

I'm betting on my 1st 100 grams lady.

Keeping in mind this is my 1st grow and she's almost 5' grown under CFL's...
I'm more than happy.

Feel free ta add your 2 cent's... Peace...

Root report SSH/SD 5-1-12

Root report SSH/SD 5-1-12

Root report SSH/SD: 5-1-12

Sour Diesel:
picture.php

92 days of growth.

Looking at the stem cut:
you can see the excellent vascular system she has ( looks like a cross in the center)

I thinking due to the high moss content and lack of micro nutrients and poorly vented 5 gal bucket.
I did not achieve full root growth and there for reduced yield.

This was my 2nd try at soil set up and seems to have worked better than the 1st try yet still a ways to go.

Higher perlite % helped a lot

Over all :
Her roots reached the bottom and used most of the available space yet did not fill in very well so
I could still do better.

Super Silver Haze:
picture.php

Stem Cut:
To me it look like she was sick/un-healthy
Poor looking vascular system with a discolored center I suspect is not good.

She was stuck in my 1st soil mix with the high moss/low perlite mix.

Looking at the root growth or lack of. Looking at the roots straight out of the bucket
you would think she had good growth yet breaking the dirt you find
almost no roots in the center.
I suspect this is due to being to compact and moist with lack of air for root to grow into.
Roots stayed outside and this is way after 100 days she still was not 100%

She did take the biggest hit from the mite attack and the cure so that may have stunted
her roots growth as well.

Over all:
I got really lucky with her. This must really be a great phenom to have still given the quality buds
after having been through so many different fights.
I learned so much watching her & will have fun growing her again.
I cant wait to see how the new soil mix I used on the other SSH Lady's with do.

They usually lose @ 50 to 70% of the weight in water. That is the drying process.

With more INTENSE lighting, and HIGHER LUMEN output, those SSSH and SD's would yield you a much more DENSE harvest. Less fluff, and more smoke.

The 400 watt HPS combo ballast should run @ 420 watts = 35,000 lumens. A 600 watt puts out @ 90,000 lumens at @ 630 watts

ALL of your CFL don't add up to that output. ** 26 watt bulbs make @ 100 lumens. Thats like... ummm.... 35 or 90 bulbs to equal 1 HPS..

It looks like you study, and do the math. So, DO the math. :)

btw - if money is such an issue, why entertain pool table reflectors, and such sillyness?

:whee:----------:whee:

I appreciate your input. Every bite helps. I did this grow to test and learn for future grows as I did not have $
when I had the chance to start this grow.

I am not after yield as much as hands on knowledge.
Since my goal was not yield I wanted to
keep it getto and as cheap as possible.
Thinking, if I lost everything to mold or whatever it would not cost me coin.

As with most plans in life. Chit happens and yep plans change.
This is a 2 wave set up with 2nd wave 8 weeks behind the 1st.
so as to apply what I have learned and try move on to the next set of
knowledge i need.
Training-scrog-micro growing-containers sizes,types-bonsai mothers-
outdoor summer grow an yep im sure there will be more... lol

I was going to stay with the CFL's and feel I could and would do ok with the outcome.
Yet who could pass up on a( $80.00 + $34.00 shipping )Brand new 400w hps tube light set up.

Every thing has showed up and is working ( 400w light- DIY chiller and a few other things)

Now I can start setting up for the 2nd wave and well see what happens
Peace-----:plant grow:-----out
btw-- The pool table light would have cost $20.00 was coors lite was eclosed with glass
which would have made it a great tube lite hood and would have looked dope it the room pic's.
Sometime's people need to think outside the box--my 2 cents---
Peace,love,joy & nugs.

Nice changes.
The tent is your best friend.
The 430 is too small for it.
For @ 50$ more, you could have had a 600 watt = twice as good as that 430 watt.

I believe you when you say you want hands- on experience, and not yield.
I also understand the need to create "chit".... but save money. Need less. Every $20 adds up in the end. Pool- table hoods are pointless. You are not creating enough heat to need it...

K
I
S
S

Too much going on in that room, and in the head of the farmer. Yeah, we are farmers, not scientists. The plants don't " NEED " us to grow.
We are here to tend, and observe. Less is more ( except when referring to CFL's ).

Yeah, it "might" work. I grew 6 plants in a tent - Vanilla Kush with a 400 watt Lumitech, and got @ 56 g each plant. I changed to a 600, grew 6 more and got .... WOW!!! 112 grams per plant. No other changes.

Good luck getting 65 grams dried per plant. Even with HPS.
