Would you eat Dog? /discuss

I saw this documentary a while back where a man travels to asia and goes to the 'humane' slaughterhouses, interviews people who eat dog and also goes to a gormet resteruant where they serve dog. Even though he was intent on eating the meat when it came to the end he said no he couldn't do it.

I watched this and i thought to myself life feeds on life and i guess if you take down the mental blocks in your head i can't see why eating dog meat wouldn't be a viable thing to do. For myself anyway, after all i live in Australia where we have kangaroos which are somewhat of a cute mascot type animal and we eat kangaroo meat. (BTW kangaroo meat is really nice and worth trying)

Anyway i was hell keen on if i ever were to be in Asia to be open minded and try dog meat, and then i got a dog! now i wouldn't think of doing such a thing, i love the little guy and theres no way i could eat anything that resembled him (sort of thing), as it would feel in a little way like cannibalism.

I don't know lol these are just some thoughts, what do you guys think? would you eat dog?

that's just wrong, NO

why would you want to kill a dog for the purpose of eating it when we already have loads of other stuff to cook, I mean, dogs are mans best friend and they are useful in other areas ..also i feel its wrong to kill an animal who can show us love

In Korea they are very strange about this IMO, they have them as pets, and in slaughter cages at the same time as food items. When it comes time to butcher them the family pet goes along and the guy feeds the entrails to his so called pet from the dog that he just butchered.
Culturally strange from my viewpoint, I try to have no bias being an Archaeologist, but to have seen this struck a strange note inside me. To see someone playing with their dog, then go to a cage and kill another dog without no hesitation and feed his pet the remains.
In Peru, they beat the shit out of dogs, treat them bad. I have yet to see 9/10 without injuries from some human. The few without were owned by Westerns who kept close guard or the dogs were Guard dogs. yes they do eat dogs in Peru.

would I could I, no Fucking Way. I love my wolves amd past dogs too much to even see the remote possibility.

But as someone mentioned, if hungry enough what is man capable of...

Only if I was really angry at it. In fact I might take up deer hunting just out of spite! Darn things eat everything in my yard that isn't protected.

also i feel its wrong to kill an animal who can show us love

I raise Hogs for Market, and one in about a hundred will stand out as a "pet," pretty much act like a dog, play fetch and show affection,as they are very smart. But in the end he ends up on someones plate.I know it is apples and oranges because dogs are pets and Hogs are livestock. If you are going to kill an animal for food NEVER name it.I would only feel it was wrong to kill it if it had a name.Call me crazy.:)

I couldn't eat a dog because they are meat eaters. For some reason I can't eat any animal that eats meat. It doesn't seem right. I took a bite of bear once and thought about it eating on a carcass and spit it out.

do you eat fish? i swear i couldnt imagine how much it would suck if i couldnt eat catfish, salmon, or trout :yoinks:

damn how does that scene from pulp fiction go....

Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Vincent: Yeah, but bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good.
Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker. Pigs sleep and root in shit. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eatin' nothing that ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.
Vincent: How about a dog? Dog eats its own feces.
Jules: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

If it comes down to starving to death i would eat whatever and or whoever to survive.

I would rather use the Dog as a tool to acquire more food then just a one off meal.

No, because there's no realistic situation in which eating dog would save me.

For example...

Circumstances put me wandering around for food somewhere and if I know there's like a 5% chance for my survival in the first place and eating a dog would 'tide me over' for a few more days...no way...because it's only delaying the inevitable: starvation

Unless I knew for a fact that eating a dog would keep me alive for years to come, I wouldn't do it UNLESS it was not domesticated and/or simply on hunter/predator instincts...which means it will do nothing but eat, kill and sleep...so in that rare instance, yes.

Make sure its cancer free, I mean hormone free. Its for sure safer than the cancer meat from the "gross'ery" store. Anyway you slice it "yuck" pardon the pun!
