Yup. Shatter contains terpenes, wax sheds them.
Wax will smell better in raw form as the shatter 'contains' terpenes and prevents them from being released. Properly purged shatter will taste better than a similar wax.
More heat to make wax = more THC loss to cbd/cbn, more flavanoid/terpene loss.
