I always heard the reason you get red eyes was because cannabis dries Mucous membranes.

Dry red eyes and cotton mouth.
Supposedly Victorian doctors would prescribe it to women with "heavy flow" because of its drying qualities.

The reason why Visine works is because the active ingredient is a vasoconstrictor... Not because it moistens the eye or whatever.

That's also why you don't want to use that shit too much. Vasoconstrictors like that can cause a rebound effect when you try stopping. I was hooked on dristan nasal spray for years because getting off felt like suffocating, complete closure of my sinuses.
Night was hell breathing through my dry mouth and throat, tongue like sandpaper. It lasted 2 weeks. My buddy had a similar thing with visine where his eyes were always red and dry feeling unless he took the visine. Stay away from that stuff if you can.

Just this guy, ya know?
The medical reason for red eyes is what's called vasodilation. It literally means that blood vessels are dilated (made bigger) and this is very visible on the white background of the eye. You could, in theory, offset this by consuming a vasoconstrictor (makes blood vessels smaller) such as caffeine or nicotine.

As to which cannabinoid or cannabinoids are responsible for the vasodilation, I do not know.
If that's true that explains why I don't really suffer from red eye. Caffeine and THC are pretty much the only things keeping me alive at this point.

I'll smoke a dump truck of good good and no red eye here. It's a newb thing..

Well I have known heavy smokers that say it happens to them , I think it has a little to do with the person',s phisiology.

I get them every now and then especially if I'm drinkg, but I definitely get them a lot less now than 20 years ago when I was a noob

How do I mark this post as helpful? I see people doing all over the place but I can't seem to find where to click

The cause for red eyes from cannabis is a harmless, even perhaps beneficial one, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a welcome reaction to all. There are a few simple steps one can take to minimize or reduce redness of eyes during or after smoking.

Opt for low or no THC strains. Strains high in CBD, CBN, and the like may be a desirable alternative for those looking to lessen red eyes when toking.

Have eye drops on hand, especially brands specially formulated to reduce eye redness.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Increasing your fluid intake may help alleviate the dryness you experience.

Simply let it run its course and plan smoke sessions for leisurely moments spent at home. Ultimately, red eyes are not harmful and come with no negative outcomes (other than the dated stigma associated with them).

The next time a glance in the mirror reveals a pair of bright red eyes after a smoke sesh, just remember that a little extra blood flow is nothing to worry about!

Now this is great info, super complete too! Are you a writer too? Thanks for sharing, wish I could mark your post as useful but I'm still a noob
