I dig it, but do you think maybe you should add a small chiller? 80 seems high for solution temps. My friends that run recirculating systems keep theirs under 70.

very cool, would love to try a setup like this some time.

just wondering where the cheapest place to buy 3x3 trays is. probably the local hydro shop.

I like the botanicare trays. They are sturdy, consistent, and they have a perfect lip around the outside that the lid sits in perfectly I'll get a detailed up when I can...

You can kind of see what I'm talkin about here. See the little speed bump around the edge.

Any size will work.

I thought about it but after I read "Hydroponics a practical guide for the soilless grower I found out optimal solution uptake occurs when the solution temp matches the canopy temp...

It's "unconventional" but I believe as long as DO and thorough recirculation stays high pythium shouldn't be an issue.

After reading tons of reports, I think it comes down more to how fast you recirculate than keeping temps low. In other words keeping temps low is only necessary when there is an insufficient amount of recirculation/aeration. I don't use airstones just the water fall effect and no les than 20 exchanges per hour, preferably 50 or more eph.

There is more than one variable to this also, a bid dense rootball can harbor stagnant spots where pythium could get a foothold. You could have more inlets of fresh solution around the top to combat that though.

I don't want people to fear high temps but you have to be on top of yor system and it has to be built with overkill in mind on every aspect.

Thanks, I'd say they are growing like weeds :)

The growth rate has taken me by surprise, I've grown in coco, e&f, and now rdwc, so far the recirculating hydro is showing the fastest growth...

wow looking great whodare this is the same idea ive had but i was going to lift that pvc u have in the tray to lid hieght and drill it with holes down each tube and use it aswell to air rate aswell by firing the water down, very nice watching this like a hawk :p

Looking great man! i love how clean the setup is!

But will the roots really have enough space? looks a bit crowded in that tray.

Happy growing! :dance013:

Hey whodare :tiphat:
Nice work on that top. it looks really good. So what kind of light you above that table? I've been planning on doing something like that. I was going to build a table med man style, but the hydro trays are so much nicer than anything i can make.

Thanks :)

The roots have plenty of space, I put them in the system when they were decently rooted in the 3 inch nets pots and flowered immediate. at two weeks they haven't even taken up 20% of the room available.

I'll get a pic up for ya...

I guess this is really a NFT system and not SWC?

Awesome, no matter what it's called.

3-1ks above two 3x3tables and a 4 plant rdwc system.

Technically it's swc, nft runs a thin film while these plants roots sit in about 3 inches of water..

Either way it's really just a recirculating hydro system...

Thanks for stoping through

Best defense against pythium is healthy plants, which explains why you aren't having issues. Good idea and clean execution. Could we get some root porn next update please? :D

Yeah, I was showing someone your setup and my comment when I saw the water. Then, I'm like, well that's why he's got those drains three inches up dumbass, so it'll hold 3 inches of water. Sometimes i'm a bit slow when it comes to hydro.

Well done! I am hoping to help a friend out with something similar very soon.

if you do run into any problems with pythium check out EWC, it seems to be the only thing that can actually conquer it. Plus its natural and inexspensive.

I like the waterfall for DO, did the same thing on a flooded tube vert once.

If I do RWC again I might try flooming, which seems to be more effective than airstones. Aquarium nerds have turned me on to that one.

Look at em go!!:woohoo: healthy roots! :ying:

:)

The Trainwreck cut I have stretched from ~6" to 45" in three weeks almost 2" of growth average per day though in peak stretch it was closer to three :bigeye:

Next time I'm going to put a sheet of panda plastic down on the lid before the plants cause when they were small light was getting in and growing algae on my roots (green, not the bad stuff, though algae is not good regardless)
