they paid 30$. 5 back to bellhop=25$. 30-25=5$ in bellhop. bellhop gives 3$ to roomies, 5-3=$2. he keeps 2$. no missing dollar. the way you word makes it sound confusing. but its simple when you break it down. its nothing more than a trick question.
30-25for hotel=5-3=2 for bellhop.
