Fascinating and timely (for me) debate
Fascinating and timely (for me) debate
I'm an old-school dirt farmer from the Rocky Mtns recently transplanted to Oaksterdam and converted to hydro SOG (36 plants per 4x4 table and 40-gal recirculating res, each setup under 1k HPS). Vegged from dispensary-bought clones in 4" RW blocks under 400w MH for +/- 2 weeks. 1-gal bags, 1 tray coco, 1 tray hydroton.
As a newbie to the area but not to growing, I erred on the side of caution my first 2 runs and kept temps LOW (67-70, which is
easy to do here by air-cooling hoods and running at night.) Too low, apparently, as I underachieved badly my first couple of runs.
It is very bizarre going from a place with no humidity to speak of to a place with 50-60% RH commonplace. I also encountered PM, mites and fungus gnats, and lost half a crop to an insane infestation of root aphids -- a pest I had never even heard of until I moved here.
Recently did a total room makeover, to a semi-sealed system.
(Still have an exhaust fan and a filtered passive intake). I bought an 8-burner nat gas CO2 gen and a 70-pint dehumi. I let the CO2 blast until ambient temps reach roughly 87, then my controller switches off the CO2 and switches on the exhaust until the temp drops back down to around 83. RH hovers between 44-47, peaks in the low 50s.
Ironically, bringing in fresh air actually raises the humidity level, so the dehumidifier runs the temps up for a few minutes longer than necessary.
CO2 ppm usually tops out around 1300, at which point the exhaust kicks in due to heat. At no point does the CO2 ppm fall below 850-900.
As someone with absolutely zero experience with sealed room/CO2 enrichment, 87 feels like a fuckin sauna. This thread has definitely helped me maintain my sanity.
Now, do you guys think I should raise the temps another 2-3 degrees, at which point the CO2 should easily cross the 1500 ppm threshold? Or am I better off staying put? I'm 2 weeks into flower on one tray (ChemDawg and Casey Jones), 3 weeks on the other (Sweet Tooth, Purple AK, and Chronic).
Also, to (hopefully) prevent bud rot and minimize PM, at what point do I shut off the CO2 and crank the dehumidifier (if ever)? Sweet Tooth finishes between 49-51 days, Casey can go 65-70, and everything else comes in at 56-60.
