Hey people, I'v been unable to access two sites that I used to frequent. I keep getting the same error message, unable to contact server. They are both pot related sites, not that that matters, I guess LOL
I'm a total dolt with a computor, anyone know what this could be. Is it my firewall or antivirus program doing this? Help is greatly appreciated!

I dunno much, but until someone else chimes in, try this:

check your address bar for http: or https:

whichever one is up when you get the error message is the Wrong one, just insert or remove the s and hit Enter.

Hope this helps...if not, join me for a bowl while we wait for more input! :smoke out:

Are you running a Bittorrent client (for example, Bitcomet)?

Also, are you running a firewall?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, turn the program off and try to load the page again. Post the results here, as this will help us to isolate and fix the problem.

Are you sure the sites are not down or gone? With canna sites sometimes they just go away. Try a google search for the sites and try to get in that way, if you are using a bookmark the specific address may have changed.

Yeah, that's a good point. Go to downforeveryoneorjustme.com and type the address of the website into there. It'll tell you whether the site really is down or not.

I tried downforeveryoneorjustme. both sites are up and running. How do I know if I'm running a firewall?

I also am running spywareguard could this be the problem?

yea most likely actually.

the sites are probably categorized as something that is blocked by default in your spywareguard (bud porn :) ??). try disabling it and see if you can access the sites then.

Amrad,

Spwareguard is crapware and is most likely doing more harm to your computer than good see here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-spyware-guard-2008

My advice to you is to follow the instructions and remove it. After removing it, install:

Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

and your choice of the following (I currently use Avira)

Avira personal free - http://www.avira.com/en/download/index.php

AVG Free - http://free.avg.com/us-en/226284?cmpid=fs_hp_testa_226284

http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

They are all free. After you download and install malwarebytes and one of the free anti-virus applications, update them. Before running the software, go to the following link and download, install, and run cleanup (if you're using windows). Make sure you don't run it in demo mode (it'll ask you if you want to run it in demo mode). Cleanup! will delete all of your temporary internet files and temp files. Make sure you know all of your passwords in case your web browser stores your passwords because Cleanup! will delete stored passwords.

http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=69

After running Cleanup! Run malwarebytes and once it finishes, run whichever anti-virus program you downloaded and installed.

I'm not guaranteeing that this will allow the sites you are having issues with to be displayed, but it's a step in the right direction.

Try a ping

Try a ping

Go to run and type cmd and press return. This will bring up a command prompt

Type
ping yoursite.com

try that and then report back what happens. Also try again after uninstalling the crapware.

If you get a reply from the ping, then It's a browser issue.

Have you tried a different browser? I use Chrome now days, but FF is good too. Try IE since its already installed. Does that work?

You could disable your spyware, anti virus stuff etc..... Then 1 by 1 enable and see what blocks, and what does not.

amrad - how do you connect to the internet? Are you using a standard cable/DSL connection? I just googled and went directly to the greenliifeseeds site with no problems.

http://www.greenlifeseeds.com/GreenLife_Home_Menu.html

The reason I am asking is this - if you are not using your own, independent connection, it might be possible that they are doing keyword filtering on your connection and disallowing connection to sites that they deem "bad" (although this seems very unlikely to me as you are able to visit IC)

I just tryed your posted link and got an error report. I'v got my own connection I'm not part of a network or anything. I'v got wireless dsl I think. It connects to the phone line and I use a D-Link to connect to the computer.

Long shot here but try and make sure you are on "YOUR" wireless access point and not someone elses. Maybe they are behind a firewall. I highly doubt your ISP is blocking that site bro. The fact that you are on dsl makes is a PPPoE connection which is exclusive to you via username and password. In other words its only for you.

You could try to modify the DNS your using. Google has a public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

What operating system and browser are you using?
