It was a shot to the ribs, according to all the post fight analysts, including Kenny Florian and all the Fox analysts. You can clearly see the kick go directly into his ribs here:

I thought it hit the ribs not the stomach . But what`s just underneath the ribs on that side ?
There is also an acupressure point right about where the kick landed as well to add some fritz to the nervous system . he he .

The liver is beneath the ribs...
Look up a diagram of the human anatomy and look where the kick landed.. that's a liver shot. If a livr shot is hard enough it can break the floating ribs that protect it.
He didn't know what hit him. Seen plenty of liver kicks. They are lower. The picture clearly shows the kick landing on his ribs. Doesn't mean the repercussions of that kick didn't affect his entire body, but it wasn't directly on the liver. Just look at the picture, and tell me where the kick is landing.

Getting the liver shot is fairly common in rugby as well . A well placed shoulder to the right rib cage can put the toughest man down .

Nice pic. Live, I thought it was located much more in the chest.
I train in muay thai and boxing so I am always looking for the liver shot. You can drop the toughest most badass dudes on the planet with a solid liver shot. The closest thing I can compare it to is getting hit in the balls. It just has that horrible nausea pain that just paralyzes you. That's why I am always looking for the liver with either the left hook or the switch kick (since I have an orthodox stance). Knees from the clinch to the liver and also be brutal.
one of my favorite combos is jab cross hook to the body hook to the head cross the first 2 punches are to bring their hands up then if the hook to the liver drops the hands then the hook cross to the head usually is good for a knock out
very technical combo but if landed properly the results are brutal
had to edit that because most wont understand punching numbers lol
