Here we are folks! My first ICMag grow journal!
I've spent quite some time lingering around these forums absorbing as much wisdom as possible, but now, it's time for you to meet my ladies!
Let's learn a little about the grow:
Strains: 1xHSO 707 Headband, 3xHSO BlueDream, and a mystery plant!!!(*I'll explain in a minute)
Medium: 50/50 coco/perlite
Containers: This is my first time using Coco, while I have now fallen in love with coco and have witnessed it's insane potential, there was a learning curve to it. So while preparing for flower I was exploring different ideas and techniques that would allow me to go out of town for a few days without killing my plants. So you will see that I have tweaked a thing here and there between each of these plants to get more familiar with the most effective grow style for this medium and my grow space. That being said, I have one BD and the Headband in 5gal bucket hempys, the mystery plant and a BD clone in 3gal smart pots, and my last BD is in a SIP(Sub irrigated planter) I made out of a 27gal container.(**)
Nutrients: I started this grow with Remo nutrients, watching his early YouTube videos when I was younger really inspired me to grow myself, so I had to give it a try. I think his nutrients are pretty good and I'm sure after another practice run I could dial it in and get great results BUT honestly running 8 bottles of nutrients is time consuming, costly, and makes it a lot harder to dial in with 8 variables in feeding schedules. So I have switched over to GreenLeafNutrients MegaCrop!!! The price is unbeatable and my plants have never looked healthier. They absolutely love this stuff and so do I. The price is insanely cheap and the plants have exploded with vigor since I made the switch.
Lighting: we are running ~980w of Vero29 COBs in 3000k. 12 moveable COBs on 3 rails spaced out across the canopy.
Feeding: I have a 27gal reservoir connected to a drip feed system that feeds 3 times a day to about 10% runoff total, daily. I think I will be adjusting my timer to feed 5 smaller feeds a day as I've heard the growth rate Coco is even more rapid with more, shorter feeds.
We are finishing out week 4 of flower right now and these girls are absolutely gorgeous!
When I started this grow I had never used coco before(I've grown in soil before) so I wasn't aware of just how well aerated it is and how fast it dries out. So after germinating seeds successfully I would place them in red solo cups but to my dismay the cups would dry out too fast and the seeds would die(even under a dome). Unfortunately I went through more seeds than I would like to admit because of this. After all was said and done I ended up with 2 different BlueDreams, 1 707 Headband, and a mystery plant.
*I call it a mystery plant because it could be 1 of 3 strains. As I was losing seedlings I was getting pretty down on myself because I had never had this issue before. I started with an old freebie I held onto because it sounded like a strain that had potential. It was WhiteWidow x Blue Lemon Thai. After proper germination I sowed the seed and it failed to break the surface. So then I did the same with a C99 seed a friend gave me, didn't sprout again. I gave it one more chance with another freebie, Chocolate Mint Og by HSO. Each time I threw the seed in the same 1gal smart pot without ever cleaning out the media. I wanted one more plant to even out the numbers at the time, fill my grow space, and add variety. Well a week went by and I gave up, tossed the 1gal pot in the corner. A few days later my girlfriend noticed a little sprout coming out of this arid forgotten 1gal in the corner. Hot dam! One of the little ones survived! So I nurtured it and threw it in the mix with the other girls who were way ahead at this point. And that's how we have a mystery plant! As this plant has matured it had some pretty heavy indica leaning traits. It had very wide leaves compared to the BD and the HB, it had great lateral branching, a very pretty little bush. But once I induced flowering this young lady stretched like crazy becoming the second tallest plant in my garden next to my 6 foot tall(not including the bucket) BlueDream girl in the hempy. So I'm really not sure what it could be as I have no experience with growing any of these strains in the past and I've never smoked any of the 3 she could be. She's very oily and the scent I get from stem rubs does have a very stinky earthy tone, smells like OG and you can definitely catch a chocolatey after tone. So I'm leaning towards the HSO Chocolate Mint OG but I may never know.
**Quick shoutout to the folks at the Sub Irrigatted Planter thread over at RIU or GCity(can't remember which one I had the discussion in) that said you can't use SIPs with drip fed coco. I was told SIPs won't work with coco because of salt build up and nutrient toxicity. Well my BD girl loves it so far! It's a large mass of coco to try to keep evenly watered but I have 4 drip heads sufficiently spread out and she's looking better than ever. I originally only had two drip heads in veg, if I had added the other two sooner I'm sure she would have been two or three times bigger.
Enough rambling, let's meet the ladies!
