Tennessee legislators show their true selves, yet again...

i'm going to go out on a limb here, and opine that here, as well as in other states (and federally) your Senate members are "probably" better educated than those in the "lower House". Tennessee cannot agree on whether or not to accept a bit over a billion dollars in federal education money. yup, you read that right. the Senate is all for it, and the House is kicking and bitching. let me quote a paragraph from the Senates statement and see if anyone here sees the problem..." "wrote that they haven't been able to agree with their House counterparts on recommendations about the federal education funding, much of which is targeted to serve lower income students, English learners and students with disabilities." if they reject the money, it will go to other states, and they will STILL be required to follow federal guidelines in re education. but for some reason, the House doesn't get this... "let's keep the poor ones poor, the stupid ones stupid, and if they can't speak English, let's send them back where they came from!" our local morons have also (UNANIMOUSLY!) signed onto an imbecilic notion that localities and the state can annul federal laws through some arcane process (sovereignity?) that they can't quite put into words. seems like that notion was dispelled by 1865...

There are always strings attached with money.
the "strings" they are bitching about aren't strings, they are guardrails that are there in re education funding whether these folks admit it or not. "you can take this money, or not, but there are STILL going to be standards that you have to meet". the state can use the fed money, or pony up their own, but it's going to be done to those standards... it is all an attempt by some in state govt to look like they are telling "the man" to shove it. :shucks: :dunno:
