So my notice of assessment for 2021 tax year, based on income of $16,000.00 says taxes owing $106,000.00
Seriously? Spent over 3 hours on the phone yesterday trying to find out wtf is happening, agent was very nice and is sending me some paperwork to fill out. I asked her to just put $0 under amount owning, she laughed and said no. I have a feeling this is going to take awhile to straighten out. taxes in excess of six times the income? 😃 this ought to be interesting, lol...unless you owed for previous years & they added it all together.😬 and that would really suck...

The CRA may have covered it on the phone call, but if not that assessment is saying that you owe $0.00 for 2021. What it is saying is that you owe $106k in back taxes. I'm not saying you do owe prior year taxes as I clearly don't know you. That's what previous account balance means though.

I dunno about Canada, but the American IRS is staffed with a bunch of idiots who take first, and ask questions later. This 'working from home' with covid has been an excuse to do nothing, not answer the phones, not answer faxes o emails. They think I only owe them $15K, because they are too stoopit to read a return. Oboma hired them, and xiden is hiring more.

Good luck. They think you owe them a lot of money, and the bastids charge interest, penalties, and can take your money. At least here in the good old USSA they do.

The last 5 years of return’s it’s been $0 cr/dr and I’ve gotten all the hst and climate payments. She said there’s an issue with the 2012 year. I can’t remember why I walk in the kitchen most days and you’re talking 10 years ago.
That’s why she’s sending some paper I have to fill out.

It's 6 years in Canada but past tax issues never go away. It sounds like you are dealing directly with a CRA agent so you are at their mercy.

Did they say you owed last year, or the year before?

This is what broke commie governments do, they take from thr people to keep their sorry asses in power. "you owe us from 10 years ago. Pay." What can you do? At least I have good records, and my taxes are correct. It was the idiot at the IRS who screwed up. But again, what can you do?

Do thy have 'tax court' in Canada, cause that is my next step.

You neglected to mention the republican's having stripped the funding for the IRS.
They strapped the agency for funding so hard that they assured there would not be enough
resources to go after well heeled deadbeats.
Which of course leaves more them going after the little guy.
Thus furthering an old republican tradition of first creating a problem and then complaining about it.
I would dearly love to see the agency funding restored, as to go after the sector that can recover more past
owed revenue that is currently not being collected due to a lack of resources.

This is nuts lol. I guess somebody on their end just made a typo of some kind.

I recall a similar story which happened in Germany (bavaria or so?) there was this lady who had one of those little food trucks doing the usual german fast food like sausages, chips or whatever. One day she got the note from the tax office saying she owed them over 1 million quid , could have been even more actually.
She explained everything to them, letting them know that it is simply impossible to make such a huge turnover selling Bratwurst but they insisted she had to pay.
She was taken to court, was forced to hire a specialist lawyer and won the case (phew!).
As she had won won the case, the tax office was forced to pay for the entire law costs, including this womans lawyer. This type of lawyer however charges a certain percentage of whatever the sum in question happens to be.
Therefore, in the end the tax office lost sh*t loads of money thanks to the fact that the people who work there refuse to use common sense and simply check this womans books!

I most certainly hope that you won´t have to go through this kinda crap, mate . Maybe it´ll sort itself out :) (y)
