Sweet Seeds and their 3rd Generation Autoflowering Strains

For the 2012 season Sweet Seeds presents us their 9 first third generation autoflowering genetics. Four versions of genetics from the Sweet Seeds catalog: GREEN POISON AUTO, MOHAN RAM AUTO, SWEET CHEESE AUTO and JACK 47 AUTO. One version of a classic strain: SWEET SKUNK AUTO. Three new automatic varieties: CREAM MANDARINE, + SPEED and SWEET SPECIAL AUTO. And the new version: BIG DEVIL XL. Besides the autoflowering strains the seedbank also presents us with a new non-autoflowering variety: the BIG FOOT.

Around 2007 this seedbank specialised in feminised seeds started experimenting with autoflowering seeds. Since then, their breeders soon realised the immense potential contained in the autoflowering characteristic of these short and fast cannabis plants.
The first generation of Sweet Seeds auto strains was presented to the cannabic community during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. By that time the seedbank released Speed Devil, Fast Bud and Big Devil. Autoflowering strains represented a huge success for the seedbank due to the great reception and feedback from growers to this automatic flowering genetics.

1st Generation autoflowering varieties were a good surprise mainly for the autoflowering feature, capable of flowering outdoors and out of the regular season and also indoors with intensive lighting regimes (18-20h). Making it possible to harvest only 2 months after their germination. Short stature plants, very discreet and perfect for small grows in balconies and small pots.

In the 2011 season the bank released their new autoflowering genetics from second generation, product of the recurrent selection during consecutive generations of the best autoflowering varieties of first generation and their hybridization with some of the best non-autoflowering genetics from the Sweet Seeds bank of mothers. In that season they released SPEED DEVIL #2, FAST BUD #2, BIG DEVIL #2 and the first three autoflowering versions of Sweet Seeds genetics: S.A.D. AUTO, BLACK JACK AUTO and CREAM CARAMEL AUTO. This 2nd generation varieties turned out to be more aromatic and with more diverse aromas than the ones present in the first generation. They also turned out to be more stable and productive. The resin production is very high and the overall appearance of the buds in the end of flowering is as appealing and resinous as in their non-autoflowering versions. After all, the success of this kind of seeds is due to the multiple advantages that they offer to the cannabis growers and to the ever growing quality of this genetics.

The quality of this modern genetics has also been backed up and rewarded with several cannabis cups. In 2010 the first auto from the Sweet Seeds catalog, SPEED DEVIL, surprised the cannabic community with being the first autoflowering plant to achieve a first prize in a contest. The jury of the “I Copa de la Marina Baixa” (Alicante, Spain) evaluated a sample of SPEED DEVIL as the best plant, with this strain getting a better result than many other non-autoflowering varieties that also entered the contest, like Jack Herer, White Widow, Diesel and other modern feminised polyhybrids.

During 2011 other autoflowering variety from Sweet Seeds, FAST BUD, wins another first prize in the 1st Cannabis Cup Nature Grow, this time competing only with autoflowering strains.

More recently FAST BUD obtained the First Prize in the Indoor category in the 5th Italian Cannabis Cup, that took place in Rome in January 2012, in this case competing also against lots of non-autoflowering varieties.

For this new season of 2012 Sweet Seeds continues with their r-evolution of the autoflowering strains, presenting us with the new 3rd generation autoflowering varieties. These new varieties are the result of the hybridization of the best strains of 2nd generation autoflowering seeds with elite clones of non-autoflowering strains from the bank of mothers of Sweet Seeds.

In this generation the sweet and pleasant aromas, one of the main identity emblems of the bank, are strongly fixed. The goal was also to raise the average height of the plants, selecting strains of medium-high size and in some cases hybridizing them with mostly sativa non-autoflowering genetics. The resin production in the flowers and in their surrounding leaves is exuberant, the appearance of the plants and the size of the buds in the end of flowering may make any experienced grower think that they are high quality non-autoflowering plants.
