Swanson's mini grows

Back up and running. Had to move and took some time off. Have a much better space for growing now and picked up a 250 HPS I need to build a box or get a tent for. Going to flower 5 blueberry x mikado Bx F1 in the meantime.

Ooo did you grow the mikado yourself? Or are these someone else's seeds? Just never got round to the mikado myself, and it was on my to do list.

I recently had a 250w HID shining into a closet from about 1.5m. Some of the light went onto the closet door, and was heating up the wood too hot to touch. I was suprised how hot things get when HID is used in a small area. Be careful. HID does not like to be confined.

Some of the guys have been saying they can produce amazing plants with $1 5w LED household bulbs (with the outer-filter removed, in case you don't recognise them). blynx's bulbs may be approximately 13w LED's. As usual they use Blue for veg, and Red for flowering. Some people say you can just use Red, and this is handy because they are commonly available cheaply in Dollar-shops. Have a look at blynx & q3corn posts; just navigate to their most recent posts, here (if links still working):

If you have limited space, this may suit you better. They are almost completely cool.

A few Youtube videos exist on ($1) household LED bulbs:

Pics from blynx & q3corn.
Although blynx ties their plants down quite a bit, they do not move their lights as plants grow upwards. This may indicate squat plants, especially when vegged using Blue LED's.

...look how short the seedlings are; not too much stretching or shooting of small plants. Amazing :)

Here's some more typical grow pics from blynx's posts. CFL's also here.

Yea these were under Led with shield removed. I have a couple previous runs of the same strains. The mikado was mixed with sour bubble prior to me getting it. The blueberry was local commercial bagseed.

35x35x70 tent setup now with inline 100cfm fan. Holy fuck I have a lot room !!! Ballast mounted externally. I used four of those ratchet harnesses for light. Temps upper 80's, not much above room temp. I mounted a smoke alarm right above tent though I'm not overly concerned.

Plants are in 10L pots of

peat potting soil, coir, kelp with Green gaia power bloom added. They have been fimmed.

Sounds ironic to ask if you hit the right spot considering what fim stands for, but its tough to get that right.

Fimming mostly worked out well with lower branches gaining momentum. Had to move my light lower (18" instead of 32"), growth has sped up since. Probably going to flower within a week, yield might be kinda light but real tired of buying weed.

Day 5
I expect close to 10 week flowering so hopefully they bulk up nicely. Raised lights and added a canopy PC fan. Drilled 800 holes in the pots for better aeration. The pots weren't draining well at all and they suffered somewhat from that. Cal mag with next watering, haven't given them any yet but did dose them with a root booster recently.

Tied them down a couple days ago and re pinched a bunch of stems. Been getting pretty pinchy with these ones. They've been getting rain water for a few weeks now. I have funky mineral rich well water. Probably causing deficiencies. Had some yellowing and weird spot necrosis earlier in veg. Seen big improvements with that and with 1 tablespoon per gallon Epsom salts.

Definitely some variation. I like the sativa leaning one.. more sativa leaning than any of these seeds I've grown out before. The squat runt in the right corner is cool too, Fairly frosted and fruity stinky already.

I think I had the light too close for a while and they got kinda leggy around the edges where shaded.
Planning on just leaf tucking as I don't want to slow them down at all with a defoliation. They were little when I started flower so want to keep them growing at a good rate. Giving them bigbud and demerra brown sugar for another week.

Nice little grow. I must say that even if my patience is long gone, I enjoy seeing people that make small spaces work. I know it's not easy, and I like you still try to do everything right.
plants look great! :lurk:

Week 8 tomorrow. Some leaf fading and ripe smells. Took a bunch of yellow fans off earlier. Probably got their last nutes today, will assess that when they dry out. The frosty runt for sure is getting flushed and maybe chopped next week. She's way ahead. The rest look like ten week chop time.

Day 65, trichs don't lie. Mostly cloudy still with no amber. All fairly similar in that regard actually. Big dense top buds all around, some nice frosty lowers too. The blueberry stock I have is fairly sativa ish and wants to flower into November outside. Wants to foxtail a bit too. Cool to see some purple inside, it went pretty purple when a friend ran it outside. I switched lighting to 10/14 yesterday to try to get them finishing up.
