Stealth + Vert + 250 watts

F

fully baked

After a short hiatus from the forums, I'm back and ready to start up another log. Hopefully a few of my mistakes and successes can help someone else out there who's looking to start their grow also, not to mention all the wonderful feedback here.

***Round 2 with C99 starts halfway down page five.... HERE***

First a little background info...

FLOWER CAB
15 inches deep, 28 inches wide, and 35 inches high, it is a hollowed out dresser. She is stealthy. Lit with a 250 watt HPS mounted vertically, cooltube and all.

The cab will be cooled with a moded stanley blower and a heavy duty computer fan pulling through a DIY scrubber. A standard everyday fan sits at the bottom by the intake, and blows directly onto the bulb and cooltube.

VEG CAB
My now veg cab was my previous flower cab on my old thread. The converted cabinet was slimmed down and only carries 4 (qty) 23W CFL's for now and illuminates a base of 15” x 23”. This cab stands slightly shorter than the flower cab at 32” high. Ventilated with a two 4” inline duct fans and she is a marijuana making machine.

DISTRACTIONS FOR STEALTH
I deal with the fan noise by placing an air filter right on top of my cabs. Any sound of wooshing air is immediately blamed on my bad allergies and need for this air filter.

I also needed a way to hide my stanley blower fan. I ended up making it into an inline fan and now it sits on top of the cab inside a box. Out of plain sight, and the box acts as a bit of a muffler.

All the sides are caulked up and sealed, and I used velcro to make a removable door on the back of each cab. There's a few light leaks here and there, but they are minimal and are overtaken by something as bright as a computer screen.

Strain Info
DSD x OHS1 – Double Strawberry Diesel (Funky pheno) x (Original Haze x Skunk #1) This will be my first time playing with this cross. The DSD was a crystally bitch who smelled like funky socks while the OHS1 male smelled like lemons and showed sex fairly early.

PPP – Nirvana's Pure Power Plant. Thanks for the FreePees SB!

NH – New Purple Power x Hashberry. A sticky girl with fat colas, a green pheno of Nirvana's New Purple Power crossed with a vigorous Hashberry male from mandala. I've had the joy of growing her out before.

Here's a shot of her from years past.

... OHS1 - Original Haze x Skunk #1 F2 I made from earlier this summer. A lemon smelling plant with long crystally buds. I only got to take her to ~35 days before I had to cut her short last time and am really looking forward to getting a final product from these.

... And TNT Mix from the awesome fellows at SB!

... C99 from xyz. Originally from Wallyduck's stock.

Medium Info
Sunshine Mix #4 with a bit of extra perlite tossed in. I plan on using earth juice's organic grow and bloom through this grow.

I changed over to hydro with GH during my last grows and my buds just didn't taste quite as good as my organics, even with more than ample flushes. So I'm back to organics and the simplicity of not having to fuck with pH makes me more than happy...

And so this brings us to the beginning of the journal. First and foremost, bring on the chatter. Feedback makes me happy and keeps things interesting. I'll try my best to answer any questions I can, especially those pertaining to my setup.

We can also make it a habit of trying to update on mondays, because otherwise I like to fall behind and leave large gaps during the grow cycle...

So it brings us to the seeders in veg

yep,i like how you got your screen, i think most people put it to close, how wide is it?

F

fully baked

The screen is secured to the back walls. It is 28" wide (back section), 15" deep (sides), and covers from the top of the cab down about 22". Generally the screen is about 8-12" away from the edge of the cooltube. I plan on tieing the plants back to the screen like a vertical scrog.

Feel free to pop a squat and smoke one of the fatties rolling around :joint:

F

fully baked

It could be fit that way. My worries were watering would get to be a bitch while having to maneuver around the screen, especially to the plants on the back wall.

And it was simply easier to mount the screen to the back wall, and now I get to enjoy a little LST time with the ladies...

This should be good. I would think you would be able to get closer than 8'' with a cool tube wouldn't ya?

I'm going vertical with my 150w and my gals are going to be about 3'' from the bulb hehe.

F

fully baked

Ya I definitely will be closer than 8". I will be tieing her to the inside of the screen and still letting them grow towards the light.

I've designed two other cabs with this 250 and always had heat problems. So for now, the screen is going to stay on the walls. If there are no heat issues, maybe I'll consider moving the screen in. Let's wait and see :nanana:

Thanks for dropping by everyone.

Happy Monday to everyone out there. A little update here.

First some newcomers are joining the party.

Here they are... One of the OHS1's took a nasty fall from 3 feet up. I think she will survive though...

2 TNT's on the left and 2 OHS1's on the right. The far right one took the fall...

I've been slacking and delayed getting pots. It resulted in some root bound little ones with no Earth Juice to feed them!! I got my Grow and Bloom in this past Thursday and have perked them up a bit.

PPP's have recovered from the hiccup and were repotted on Saturday. Since then they've gotten a few waterings at mild strength of some grow formula. They are under the 250w but it's running at 18/6 for now.

Here's the PPP's... Hitten that seveth node, they will be in the two liters/1 gallon until they show sex. Then they go into 2.5 gallon containers for flowering. I might push them into 12/12 in a week if I get ancy and repot after they lift their shorts.

The NH are doing alright with 3 getting repotted tonight. The other two are smaller and can last another day or two while I scrounge up more 2 liters. Same deal as the PPP with feedings.

Roots...

Repotted NH

Still partying in their party cups... NH

The DSD x OHS1 looks great. They haven't outgrown their pots yet. One lady came out with 3 fingers on her first true set of leaves. Kinda neat... They've gotten half strength feedings compared to the NH and PPP up till now.

Heres the DSD x OHS1. The sexy one is in the middle...

And a quick shot of the veg cab. She is running smoothly. I just need to use all that space more efficiently!

And the flower cab. Already ran into a bit of a heat problem with my intake into the cool tube being so low. The hot air would rise and just stagnate at the top of the cab. That has been remedied by running some ducting back up towards the top of the cab. Inefficient but it works for now until I figure out something better.

Pics for a better idea.

Questions, comments, concerns, bring it.
This vert forum needs to get poppin a little more.

Didn't think I'd be seeing up shorts this quickly... It's still early but I've got a feeling about one of them...

But I'm thinking he's a male. You can barely even see the bump, but it's there. Check out the left node and look for the tiny spade coming out...
PPP #2

F

All the PPP's have shown sex. PPP 2 from up there ^^^ was definitely a boy. The other two have shown me some sexy looking pistils since then. The boy will be kept in his two liter container and flowered for pollen in a male isolation chamber when I get around to building it.

The other two ladies have been repotted into 2.5 gallon pots, have had cuts taken, and they all start the first day of 12/12 today. It should start to get interesting soon.

There will be a full update monday, as I've changed some things around in the cab with regards to ventiliation.

Livin' easy,

thanks for stopping by anonymous grower. Take a seat and hang out for a bit because we're about to get interesting and actually have some buds in this bad boy. As always chitter chatter is encouraged!

Here's an update. A day early, but that's just too damn bad... :nanana:

The flower cab has been switched to 12/12 and is rocking away. Just the PPP's in there right now though. I made a little change with the ventilation. I had some 4" ducting around and had hot spots above the cool tube. So I made a little duct junction, sat it at the bottom of the cab, and ran two columns of duct up the walls on each side of the cab. It seems to be working nicely now, but I lost a decent amount of growing space.

Here's a shot

:1help:
Now I'm wondering... I have 2 intakes right below the light, if I placed a fan on one of them to circulate air, might that get rid of the hotspots by moving lots of air around in the cab??

I will have to expreiment. It would be real simple to switch out and would give back all that growing space. A trip to the thermometer store is in order I do believe... Results in a few days...

Here's the first girl in the flower cab. She is PPP #1 and showed sex first. Shorter and branchier of the two.

Here's the second girl. She's PPP #3 and is a little taller, and lankier.

And the boy. More structured like the first girl but with the whole testicle thing...

And a quick shot of the veg cab. It's now overrun with an influx of unsexed plants that were hanging out in the flower cab. They will have to wait their turn though.... The only additions were a little bubbler cloner down by my intake and I bubble my earth juice in there now. It's a multi purpose room of sorts...

We have 3 DSD x OHS1, 5 NH, 2 OHS1 F2's, and 2 TNT mix I believe...

Oh my those little OHS1 F2's are sexy... Seems to like to throw out a 3 leafer as the first set of true leaves. This carried over to one of the DSD x OHS1 as well...

Two NH showed me some balls today. NH #1 and #3 are boys.

Still waiting on the rest.

Also starting my ventilation tests today. Built a DIY scrubber and have my thermometer running as we speak. I made my own little inline scrubber if anyone is interested. Hopefully it works alright.

It ended up that the flower cab ran about 13 degrees above room temp with my weird little duct run or with an intake fan at the bottom. So I've ditched all the ducting and have lots of grow space back :woohoo:

Either way, 13 above ambient is a little too warm for my liking when the room temps can climb to 80. I need cold winter weather already...

F

Thanks for the well wishes from those that left them.

Found a NH female today too. Hasn't shot out a pistil yet, but I'm fairly certain :yoinks:

That brings us 3/3 m/f ratio... Right on track

F

Still updating and fine tuning the cab. I have manageable temps now but might change up my fan orientation inside the cab again. We'll see if I'm feeling squirly this weekend.

Just for fun a shot of my quasi inline carbon filter.

Air comes up from my cool tube into the blower here which all happens to sit inside a box on top of the flower cab. All inconspicuous like...

Then the blower whips it straight up and out the top like this.

And the blower pushes, while my chunky square fan pulls through a tupperware filled with carbon and an air filter.

SEE

Hopefully this might help someone. Reduces smell quite well, and I throw a dryer sheet over the exhaust on my veg cab also. Change the dryer sheet every ~2 days and there's no smell to speak of. Lets hope it carries throughout flowering...

And a quick update of the proposed layout for the flowering cab.
Rectangle pots with my ppp's are 2.5 gallons.
Square tall pots are a little over 1 gallon.
And my PPP male in the two liter.

And some size reference...

I also tossed two NH boys. I have enough of those beans already. Sexed another female NH bringing the totals to:

PPP ----> 2 girls, 1 boy
NH -----> 2 girls, 2 boys, 1 unsexed
OHS1 -----> 2 unknown
DSD x OHS1 ----> 3 Unknown
TNT Mix -----> 2 unknown

Sorry about the yellow btw...

Here's some more shots...

Starting germinating some c99 from wally's stock.

1 week of 12/12 PPP #1. One on her front side and one on her back side.

The ladies in the veg cab. 2 NH on the right and one DSD x OHS1 on the left. All lifted their skirts for me...

Some of the unsexed bigger plants. DSD x OHS1 on the ends and a NH in the middle.

But that NH is interesting. Decided to start shooting out triplet nodes... Really hoping it's a girl...

PPP #1 flowering at 1 week of 12/12

And the little seeders. TNT mix on the left and OHS#1 on the right.

And that brings us too...
PPP ----> 2 girls, 1 boy
NH -----> 2 girls, 2 boys, 1 unknown trifolate
OHS1 -----> 2 unknown
DSD x OHS1 ----> 3 unknown
TNT Mix -----> 2 unknown

Cheers,
FB
