starting seeds off in 1 inch rockwool cubes

just a quick question guys if starting seeds off in 1 inch rookwool cubes do you need to protect the top of the cubes from the light. im using a cfl 200w light but was told that if the light gets to to roots it kill the seedlings. many thanks for any reply's

Seeds only need a weak CFL till a couple of sets of leaves. Only used to get it to grow in right direction (photo tropism). Could probably leave in dark for 3 days.

thanks for the reply loc doc. thats the only light i got at the moment. im afraid to leave them in the dark because im worried about them getting to leggy

Using cfl 200w light is perfect for starting seeds.

No need to protect the top of the Rockwool cubes from the light. Algae will start to grow on the tops, but that's no problem. The small cubes are excellent for sprouting seeds.
