To me he is a pioneer. But I'm not suprised not many people have heard of his name, even though he has been very influencial in popular music, including rock and roll. I think the last time he had a hit was in the early 80s.

Yup. They don't make rap album like Kurtis Blow used to do anymore. First it was about fun, dancing at parties, meeting cute guys or girls. Now it's all about mysogyny and murder.
